20.01.2022 During 2020, Kinnected Myanmar's National Director coordinated the country’s first official public-private partnership for a joint child protection initiative with the government, focused on conducting rapid assessments of and providing emergency support to street-connected children affected by COVID-19. The project was jointly implemented by the Ministry of Social Welfare and a number of large international NGOs focused on child protection. KM was the only local organization involved in this joint project. Read more about this exciting project here: https://www.kinnectedmyanmar.org//how-the-global-pandemic-

17.01.2022 With school closed in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, the team at HelpKids set out to provide home schooling materials for children enrolled at the HelpKids Pre School. Each week, a parent/caregiver would go to the HelpKids center to receive materials and go through the activities, which they could then teach their children at home. Soon after starting, the HelpKids team realised this was more than just a way of continuing to provide education for the pre schoolers. Paren...ts/Carers were both surprised and engrossed in the way the program was presented. Each week they would draw, sing, play and do the other activities that their children would be doing at home with them. Even though it was awkward at first, they began to enjoy the time at the Helpkids Centre. For many, it was an hour of time for themselves in a time of fear, uncertainty and much hardship. One farther hadn't drawn a picture in over 22 years! Another mother who had never been to preschool herself was excited to see what new activities were organised each week, and couldn't believe that children did all these things at preschool. The team has been encouraged by what was at first an education initiative, which has now become a family strengthening program. When a family comes together to help each other, then a family is strengthened! Amazing work to the team at HelpKids!

15.01.2022 A fantastic story of a mother and her commitment to take care of her child at home with the support from our partner Children In Families. Chhaya was born with ...Cerebral Palsy and because of his disability and the poverty his family was experiencing, neighbours advised his mother Akara to take her son to a residential care centre to release her of burden. However, Akara strongly affirmed her commitment, love and willingness to be with her child and continuing to care from him. But she recognised that Chhaya needed additional support. In 2019, CIF identified that Chhaya could access family preservation and CIF's ABLE support service. Through this, both Chhaya and Akara could receive the support they needed to improve their livelihood and wellbeing. During COVID-19, Akara’s family was significantly impacted. She felt scared and did not know how to protect her family, especially her son from COVID-19. In response, CIF was able to step in and provide the ongoing support to assist them during the difficult circumstance of COVID-19. We would like to thank ACCI supporters who have donated towards this project. Please read below a short quote from Akara: I would like to express my deep thanks to CIF for all your guidance and support to me and my child. You make our lives transformed with hope and smile: our living condition is so much improved, I used my savings to build a new house but it is not yet completely constructed, my boy’s health significantly improved. I commit to provide love and care to my boy and also work harder to improve my family’s living condition said Akara. She also thanked CIF for the provision of hygiene materials and for guiding her to understand on how to protect her family especially Chhaya from COVID 19. *Names changed for privacy. 14.01.2022 Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice when we promote gender equality, or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability. United Nations Photo: The Justice Conference Australia
