24.01.2022 This was a job I very much enjoyed making and an idea to make a special piece to remember that loved one. This particular client recently lost her Dad and had kept one of his shirts so she asked me to make this cushion cover to remember him by. As you may have seen before I have upcycled some of my mum's clothing and have special pieces in my wardrobe to remember her. The little soft toy was just an experiment and an added bonus.

23.01.2022 ISO Upcycle challenge. You’re probably wondering why I would completely change this beautiful dress? Well it’s had two previous owners and it’s just one of those designs that just doesn’t seem to suit anyone. Trust me I tried it on. However it’s such beautiful silk fabric so have converted it into a top and a dress. The top I simply cut it to appropriate length and hemmed plus added a panel at the v-neck so it isn’t so revealing and made one of my favourite halter neck dresses out of the remainder of fabric. It had a slight stain on the front so put this panel at the back which you can’t really notice now. I used some left over lining I had from a previous project to line it. Voila!
22.01.2022 Hello all just a little post about cheap clothing. These pyjama shorts are the reality of cheap fashion/ clothing. I love these shorts and have already fixed them once before. As you can see I quite literally wore the arse out of my pants so to speak. The fabric becomes so thin after being washed etc so many times that it ends up tearing. Unfortunately these will now be thrown out and therefore end up in landfill. They are only a couple of years old. And also fibres would be ending up in our water ways too each time they are washed. This is a lesson to myself what not to buy. A case of best to buy something of better quality that will stand the test of time. Rock on peeps.
21.01.2022 Hello All, My income is starting to be heavily affected by the virus with loosing clients so am offering my services as a Seamstress in any way possible. Clothing repairs and mending, trouser hemming etc and perhaps even baskets of ironing. This I can do in my home. Social distancing will be practised you don't even have to see me if you choose just to drop it off on my front porch. Send me a personal message. Cheers Kiri

12.01.2022 FACT: Clothing is cheaper now than it has ever been in all of human history. It is hard for us, as modern day people, to fully comprehend just how expensive clo...thing used to be. We're not talking about a few hundred dollars, but rather the equivalent of a full year's salary. Automation and machinery changed a lot of that (sewing machines, lace making machines, fabric weaving machines, etc.), but so did a shift to assembly line based sewing, where, instead of one person or a few people making a garment from start-to-finish, every person focuses on just one area (such as buttons or zippers or necklines) before passing the garment on to the next person. In addition, we've outsourced most of our clothing production and manufacturing to places where the cost of labor is cheap. However, an unfortunate side effect of that is people think *all* clothes are supposed to be cheap. An indie designer sewing on their own or with a small factory, is NEVER going to match the prices you find at a Target or a Wal-Mart or even a Victoria's Secret. And that's okay. We shouldn't expect them to. Ethically-made clothing - clothing where everyone involved is paid a fair and livable wage - is ALWAYS going to cost more. And it should.
12.01.2022 Don’t you just love Marimekko prints. I’ve been making various cushion and seat covers in all sorts of Marimekko prints for this particular client for years. I never get tired of their bold beautiful colours. An inexpensive way to add some colour and update decor without having to buy all new furniture.
12.01.2022 Hello Everyone, I gave myself a personal challenge this year to try not to buy any new clothes unless absolutely necessary. Given that clothing waste is the second highest in the world. And those of you who know me well you know I love to shop for clothes. But I've done pretty well. When I did need something I also made a rule to buy second hand or make it myself and I even upcycled a couple of things. So my brand new purchases I'm happy to report were new underwear ( clear...ly second hand might not be ideal ) ski pants, a new singlet for my os trip and a new singlet to wear to bed. I've bought a couple of second hand dresses one being a Wedding Gown from Gumtree. My partner and I eloped in November so we did secretly purchase wedding attire for our kids. I have also been lucky enough to receive new clothing as gifts or just because. So overall not a bad effort and has made me re think many purchases in future. Something to think about do you really need to purchase something new, can you have something old repaired or upcycled into something else. Of course we all need new clothing on occasion but perhaps purchasing better quality and locally made means these garments will last much longer and not end up in landfill. Merry Christmas to all. 11.01.2022 I loved updating this little gem. This frock was discovered by a client of mines daughter. It fits her beautifully it just needed a few tweaks to bring it into modern day. So we shortened the hem, took the shoulder pads out and I made a little adjustment to the back of the sleeves. I’m guessing this may have been worn by her mum in the early 80’s given the shoulder pads and Rayon fabric used with a shape reminiscent of the 50’s. I’m so pleased this gorgeous frock has been s...aved from landfill and Miss Ruby has a little piece of her mum she can wear and cherish and maybe even pass on to her future daughter some day. It’s amazing what can be done with something you might think needs to be thrown away and it doesn’t always cost the earth....literally. Happy recycling peeps. Pm me if you have a little something like this you’d love to save. See more
10.01.2022 This dress had a simple up grade. This was a maxi dress given to a client who wanted it to be shorter and with the left over fabric pockets were cut and added. Yay simple and not costly. Happy days.

05.01.2022 Upcycling at it’s best. I was given this Jenny’s outfit by a client who’d also been given it by someone else. It was too big for her and given the gorgeous fabric she thought I could do something with it. And voila a gorgeous Spring outfit was created to wear to The Spring Fling. This outfit could also be separated. The shirt looks great with a pair of jeans. The print reminds me of Marimekko. Another gem saved from landfill. Doing my bit to help stop pollution and save our planet. This one’s for you Greta
