25.01.2022 Happy Non-parkrun Eve, everybody! This week's throwback photo is from 17th May 2014. On that day we had 78 parkrunners join us at Kirra. Do you recognise anyone in the photo? In other news, some restrictions in Queensland are being amended tomorrow. You may now gather in groups of 10 outside to exercise. HOWEVER we still ask that you don't gather together to run/walk the Kirra parkrun course tomorrow morning. Take advantage of the many amazing paths in our local are...a. If you're on Strava, join the Kirra parkrun club and show us some of the fantastic 5km courses you've mapped out yourself. https://www.strava.com/clubs/kirra-parkrun #loveparkrun #wereallinthistogether

24.01.2022 Did you get out and run/walk/jog a non-parkrun this weekend? You can post your 5km time for (not)parkrun and have your virtual parkrun recorded. Check out this blog post for details

24.01.2022 We thought we'd start sharing some photos from years gone by while we're on hiatus. This photo of some hardworking volunteers is from 5th April 2014. #loveparkrun #stayhome

23.01.2022 COMPETITION TIME! Happy non-parkrun Eve everyone. As you know, we’re strongly encouraging you all NOT to run or walk the Kirra parkrun course on a Saturday morning until all restrictions on gathering are lifted. We’d like to see your favourite NON-parkrun 5km route or course. Post a screenshot of your route in the comments below and sell it to us. Tell us why you like it so much.... A winner will be randomly drawn next Friday evening at 8pm and awarded an item from our prize cupboard. The picture below is of your co-Event Director Emma’s favourite course. She loves it so much that she even measured it with a measuring wheel!

23.01.2022 For tonight’s flashback, we thought we’d share this video of the first 100 parkruns. We’re proud of being number 5 on the list, having started on 18th February 2012. How many of these parkruns have you done? Have you added any to your bucket list after watching this video?

21.01.2022 Happy non-parkrun Eve everyone! This week's photo is from 20th June 2015. The event was dubbed #parkRon in honour of parkrun patron, former Gold Coast mayor and champion ahtlete Ron Clarke, who passed away three days prior. Enjoy your Saturday run/jog/walk wherever that may be and stay safe. #loveparkrun #forgetyourbarcode

21.01.2022 It's been a long time coming, but Kirra parkrun is back! There will be some obvious differences from the last time we ran, jogged or walked together: - We need every participant to sign in via the QR link that we published a couple of days ago and will be on display tomorrow, or via this link https://www.parkrun.com/trace/mpx... - Contact with our barcode scanning volunteers will be minimal. Please present your barcode and your token to the barcode scanner and then drop the token into the container. Do not hand your token over or take your token home. - The briefing will be short and succinct, which means we need everyone to listen. Please don't talk during the briefing. - DON'T FORGET YOUR BARCODE!!! No barcode, no time, no exception. FINALLY - it's been a few months since we've had a parkrun at Kirra. Your run director is a bit rusty and so are our volunteers. Please be patient and follow all instructions. ANY RUDENESS OR ABUSE TOWARDS OUR VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Apart from that, we'll see you tomorrow morning at 6:50am for our pre-run briefing.

19.01.2022 We have new nails! The railway spike sculptures that we run past at Kirra parkrun were removed a few months due to rust. A replica of the sculptures have now been installed and we love them as much as the old ones. Thank you City of Gold Coast! We can’t wait until we’re parkrunning past them. Enjoy your weekend and continue to show us your non-parkrun courses. Please continue to avoid the Kirra parkrun course on Saturday mornings. We really appreciate those that are helping ...us demonstrate that parkrun is doing the right thing for our local community. #loveparkrun #forgetyourbarcode #nailingit

17.01.2022 Can you believe it's only 2 weeks until we're all back running, walking and volunteering together? Here's our volunteer roster. As you can see, there's a few more volunteer roles to fill BUT some of them are roles that you can do before or after you run/walk. You can deliver our first time briefing and then run. You can run and then scan barcodes. You can walk and take photos at the same time. If you can help fill any of these roles, please comment below, send us a message via Facebook, or email us at [email protected]

16.01.2022 Well done to the 10 Kirra parkrunners who did a (not)parkrun last week! It's not too late to get on board for this week. Just submit your 5km time after your run or walk anywhere, any time, before midnight Sunday night via your parkrun profile. Check out the link here for more details. https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009843618 #loveparkrun #missparkrun #runningmotivation

16.01.2022 We miss you! We miss running and walking with our parkrun family, and we really miss our parkrun. However we ask that you don’t run as a group on our course on parkrun day. The rule in Qld is still that you may exercise with people who normally live with you OR one other person. Until that changes, we need our parkrunners to set a good example. For the CHO directives in Qld, check out the link.... We can’t wait to get together with our parkrun family again, but we need to be patient and do the right thing. #loveparkrun

15.01.2022 Where back, Kirra parkrun November 28th 2020.

12.01.2022 Lots of our favourite events have been cancelled lately (including parkrun). We're still able to get out and do solo runs/walks, or run and/or walk with just one friend. One of the events cancelled is close to our hearts as it was organised by a regular Kirra parkrunner Stephen Duffield. You can still support Stephen's fantastic cause by registering for a virtual run. And YES! You will earn bling. Find out the details here: https://shuffle4parkinsons.com/

10.01.2022 Kirra parkrun will be resuming on 28th November 2020. There will be a few small changes to how we operate as a result of COVID safe planning, and we’ll be sharing these details with you in coming days. We will also need to fill our volunteer roster again. A roster appeal will be going out before our first event back.... Thank you to everyone for your patience and support during our recess.

10.01.2022 The Kirra parkrun QR code is here! One of the conditions of parkrun returning to Queensland was that each event had to display its own QR code for contact tracing purposes. The code will be displayed at the event on Saturday and we are encouraging all participants and volunteers to use it to sign in, either before or during the event. If you don’t have a QR code reader you can also sign in using this link... www.parkrun.com/trace/MPX

09.01.2022 It is with much sadness that we advise of the passing of Mark "Spooner" Wotherspoon. Mark was our first registered wheelchair parkrunner at Kirra, participating in 31 parkruns. When he no longer felt up to joining in, Mark would still stop by for a chat. On behalf of our Kirra parkrun family, we offer our most sincere condolences to Mark's family and friends.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Tracie O'Connell who was the randomly picked winner of our "show us your 5k" competition during the week. We'll definitely have to give your route a go next time we're in Grafton for the amazing Jacaranda Running Festival, Tracie!

07.01.2022 Shared from a running group member who knows how many of us feel at the moment. If you’re struggling mentally or physically with the change in your routine, please get in touch with us via message or email at [email protected]. If we can’t help you directly, we can put you in touch with organisations who can.

06.01.2022 When you return to parkrun things might look a little different. Under our COVID-19 Framework we're asking you to... Stay home if unwell Distance yo...urself where possible Show your barcode to scanner from a distance This will help keep our our events safe

04.01.2022 We’re missing our weekly dose of parkrun with our parkrun family. For many people, a break in their routine or being isolated from their friends can really take its toll on their emotional and/or mental wellbeing. Tomorrow, after you enjoy a solo run/walk, take the time to reach out to a fellow parkrunner and check in on them. How are they travelling? Do they need a chat? A virtual hug? Look out for yourselves and each other.

04.01.2022 Do any of our parkrunners make stencils, or have any contacts who do? Please send us a message if you can assist.

01.01.2022 Tomorrow would have been our traditional Easter parkrun. We thought we’d throw back to some of our fabulous Easter moments over the last eight years. Wishing all of our parkrun family a wonderful Easter. Stay safe and look out for each other. #loveparkrun #stayhome

01.01.2022 As we’re all preparing to restart this Saturday we’re sharing with you the COVID-19 code of conduct for volunteers and runners/walkers. Please have a read and make sure you’re familiar with it.
