21.01.2022 ***AGM*** Sunday 12th July @ 10am Club Rooms, Commonwealth Oval, Wattle St, Harlaxton... All members & friends of the club are invited to attend

20.01.2022 Game 13/12/2020 BASEBALL: The Toowoomba Rangers year has finished with an anticlimax. All three Rangers fixtures across divisions four, five and six were abandoned due to wet weather, putting a premature end to 2020... The decision to cancel fixtures was particularly disappointing for the A-grade Rangers, who were set to host Wests at Commonwealth Oval and have the opportunity to make ground on the ladder leaders. Had the game gone ahead, it would’ve been the first clash between the top two sides from last season. Toowoomba currently sits in fifth on the division four ladder after recording a big 12-2 defeat of Carina last week. B-grade will head into the new year without a loss to its name, going through the first half of the season with a perfect 8-0 record. C-grade has made a big start to its return season in the GBL, dropping just one game to sit in second on the division six ladder (8-1).

20.01.2022 Pre-game interview 24/11/19

20.01.2022 Game 8/11/2020 BASEBALL: The Rangers have suffered their first blemish of the GBL season in a thrilling contest at Hendra. Coming up against the unbeaten All Stars, the A-grade side came out firing to start the battle of the heavyweights, with two first innings runs giving them an early lead.... The home side levelled up in the third, before three to the All Stars gave them a 5-3 lead through five innings. The Rangers were able to peg one back in the sixth, however fell short to the tune of 5-4, their first loss of the season. It was a tight contest. The All Stars came out and had good defence, player-coach Luke Ardill said. We had a lot of hits. We had 10 to their four, but we left nine runners on base so we didn’t help ourselves out. We hit the ball well, it just went to fielders. In the first innings we lost Brent Vanderneut to an ankle injury and Sean Rodgers was injured also. It wasn’t the best day for us. It’s a learning curve. We’ll take it for what it is and try to move forward. Ardill praised the efforts of their opponents, who now sit atop the division four ladder. They showed good spirit and played an awesome game, he said. They ran the bases well and took advantage of every situation they needed to. On the other side of the card, we had plenty of runners on base but didn’t capitalise like they did. Ardill said Vanderneut and Rodgers would be given time to prove their health ahead of this weekend, but wouldn’t risk them if they’re not fully fit. We’re hopeful they’ll be back this weekend but we don’t want to rush them back, he said. We’ve got all three teams at home this weekend and players are performing in B and C grade. The Rangers B-grade game against Redcliffe was washed out, while C-grade continued their hot form with a 17-0 defeat of the Ipswich Musketeers. All three Rangers sides will feature at Commonwealth Oval this Sunday from 9.30am.

19.01.2022 Club Matriarch Retires Rangers Baseball Club Matriarch, Margaret Luchterhand, has decided to put away her pens & pencils and retire. Margaret has been an active member of Rangers from its conception in 1992 until the end of the 2019/2020 season. In commemoration for Margaret's tireless effort over the years a plaque will be mounted in the club scorer's box in recognition for her service to the club.... We would like to thank Margaret for her work, effort, advice, friendship & love over the years. Though she will be missed in the scorer's box we look forward to seeing her smiling face at the ballpark. "Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless but because they are priceless." Thank you Margaret.

19.01.2022 Pre-game 22/11/2020 AFTER a triple header of home demolitions, the Rangers hit the road to keep their strong seasons intact. BASEBALL: Fresh after a whitewash of one of GBL division four’s top teams, the Rangers have a new challenge on their hands this weekend.... Toowoomba travels to Pine Rivers to take on a Rapids side boasting one of the competition’s most potent attacking weapons. The Rapids have blasted 32 runs in their past two outings, however the Rangers will be looking to shut them down, with their league-best defence conceding just nine runs in four games. The Rangers climbed from fifth to third after a 10-0 defeat of Redlands, with Pine Rivers a spot below them. Division five action looks to see the Rangers continue their unbeaten run on the road to Southern Stars. Toowoomba currently sits atop the ladder with a run differential of 52, however they will have to contend with a strong attacking presence of the Southern Stars, who average 12 runs per game. The Rangers C-grade side will face one of its toughest tests of the season in order to continue its perfect start, travelling to take on the Redlands Stingrays. Redlands currently sits in third, while the Rangers have the chance to make it seven wins from as many games.

19.01.2022 Game 29/11/2020 THE B-grade Rangers came up trumps in their top of the table clash, as A-grade faced a tough task on the road. BASEBALL: A ruthless Toowoomba side has maintained its flawless GBL division five record.... The B-grade Rangers prevailed 10-6 over the Mt Gravatt Eagles in the battle of the division’s two remaining undefeated sides at Commonwealth Oval. In a top of the table clash, the Rangers flexed their muscles over the visitors, opening up an early lead and having a 10-2 advantage deep into the contest. Player-coach Darryl Luchterhand said it was a dominant showing from his side as their winning run stretched to seven games. The score was a bit flattering towards the Eagles to be honest, Luchterhand said. We made a couple of errors late in the game to let them back in the game. It could’ve easily been a 10-0 scoreline. Errors happen, and we’re still pretty happy with the outcome. They swung the bats really well, but we played some pretty good defence early on, and we were able to hit right through our line-up. It’s something we’ve spoken about. To put up big scores we need our lower order to put runners on base and that’s what we did. With two road games remaining before the Christmas break, Luchterhand said their goal is to remain perfect heading into the new year. That’s our focus, he said. We’re really not even concentrating on opposition teams. We’re just worrying about ourselves. We know that if we play the way we can, we’re a big chance of winning every game. We try to work hard at training and reap the rewards on the field. In A-grade, the Rangers fell to their second-successive defeat after a 10-8 loss at Runcorn to Indians Mano. A hot start with three first innings runs was counteracted by three of their own from the Indians, before two in the second and three in the fifth opened up a 8-3 advantage. Toowoomba responded with a dynamic sixth innings which saw them drop five runs, however two from the Indians was enough to secure victory. The C-grade Rangers made it seven wins from eight games with a 19-11 victory over Indians Mohican.

16.01.2022 From The Toowoomba Chronicle - 18/03/2020 BASEBALL: With finals set to begin this week for the Toowoomba Rangers in the GBL, Queensland Baseball has made the decision to postpone all fixtures for at least three weeks. In a statement, the organisation said: Baseball Queensland, in this unprecedented and unique situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, is taking a lead from international and national sporting codes to postpone all Queensland Baseball activity from Wednesday, 18 Ma...rch 2020 until Wednesday, 8 April 2020. Baseball Queensland and all our member clubs and associations will cease, for 21 days, all training, club activities and team meetings, as well as events, tournaments and competitions. The Rangers have also advised on their Facebook page that their end of season trophy and presentation night may also be delayed.

16.01.2022 UPDATE From The Toowoomba Chronicle - 23/03/2020 BASEBALL: Any hope the Toowoomba Rangers had of GBL glory in 2020 has been vanished.... The Greater Brisbane League has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the season, meaning minor premiers from each division will now add premierships to their names. The move comes just three days after the league announced that the finals series would be postponed until at least April 8 as a result of the COVID-19 situation. For the Rangers, it means their hopes of securing the division four title are over, having finished half a win behind the Wests Bulldogs. It is bittersweet for Toowoomba, who were primed coming into the finals with six-straight wins under their belts following the Christmas break. Player Darryl Luchterhand said while the playing group understands the reason for the decision, it doesn’t take away the disappointment felt. It’s pretty disappointing, especially considering we were in great form coming into the finals, Luchterhand said. Our last month, particularly on the training paddock, has been outstanding. We were primed for it. It’s more so disappointing with the hard work the boys have put in for 7-8 months and not having the opportunity to have a crack at the title. I understand the reasoning, but it still doesn’t make it any better. Luchterhand said once they decided on postponing the season until April 8, the writing was on the wall for the future of this season. I wasn’t surprised when they made the decision to cancel the season, he said. Even though the winter season might be put back, there’s a lot of players that are in winter sports. They are uncertain times at the moment, and I assumed that when they gave the April 8 date as a starting point that we weren’t going to play. They weren’t going to play over Easter or drag them into May. I’ve spoken to the coach of Wests and he’s disappointed to win it like this, but it is what it is. While going so close this season, Luchterhand predicts there will be even greater motivation for the side heading into the 2020/21 season. It will put a bit of fire in the belly for next year, he said. We hope to be able to start the season on time, and we’ll start training in August if everything pans out alright. One player we may be losing to Brisbane is Sam (McNeice). It’s not definite though. He may decide he mightn’t want to finish with the Rangers like that. He was keen to go out with a premiership. We are looking at picking up a pitcher from the Southern Stars who is another good bat in the line-up. He’s looking forward to having a season with us.

16.01.2022 Round 6: All 3 games being played at home this weekend. How about making a day of it and come support your Rangers. I guarantee there will be some great Baseball played.

16.01.2022 Game 15/11/2020 BASEBALL: Toowoomba Rangers fans were given a show at Commonwealth Oval with a 43-run display across the three teams at home. It was another weekend of powerful hitting from all three grades as they maintain prominent positions in their respective divisions.... It started with C-grade, who blasted their way to an 18-9 defeat of Mt Gravatt, ensuring they remain unbeaten through six games. B-grade was up next and they too fired with the bats, dropping Beenleigh to the tune of 15-4, keeping them atop the division five ladder. Then came A-grade’s turn, as they looked to turn around their first loss of the season and make a statement against second-placed Redlands. And make a statement they did. They took their time to feel out their opponent, but two explosive innings’ saw the Rangers pile on six runs in the third and four in the fourth to cement a 10-0 whitewash. I had a conversation with the team before the game saying that we needed to bounce back, come out here and do what we needed to do to show we can still compete in this competition, player-coach Luke Ardill said. Everyone stepped up. We stayed composed throughout the whole game, we defended well and things opened up in the third innings. It was all about finding our timing. They had one of the quickest pitchers we’ve seen this season. We had runners on base and couldn’t capitalise early, which is what we did last week. But we stayed in there, kept on adjusting and everything came together. Sam McNeice had pitching duties and had the Redlands batters in a spin, conceding just two hits while striking out nine opponents. Sam did a terrific job and everyone backed him up, Ardill said. The rest has been helping him, and he’s really enjoying his baseball. He’s having fun and came out firing.

14.01.2022 All round 10 Toowoomba Rangers games are cancelled due to wet weather. We want to wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas and a happy new year. We’ll be back for round 11, 10th January 2021.

11.01.2022 Game 22/11/2020 BASEBALL: The Rangers have headed back to the drawing board after suffering their second defeat in three weeks. Early signs were promising in their road clash with Pine Rivers, before the scoring prowess of the Rapids came to the fore with an 8-3 victory.... The defeat pushes Toowoomba to a 3-2 record for the season among a huddle of teams pushing for a spot in the top four. Captain-coach Luke Ardill said they were made to pay for crucial lapses when the game was on the line. Our first few innings were really good and we were able to keep them to zero, Ardill said. Our defence was really good. Then a couple of calls went against us and it got to us. We started to drop our heads. We got frustrated and they were able to get a roll on. Our defence lapsed and we made a few errors while they kept their composure and capitalised. The Rangers had a 2-0 lead through the first four innings, before eight runs in the fifth and sixth from Pine Rivers put the game out of reach. B-grade kept its unbeaten streak alive with a dominant 16-9 defeat of the Southern Stars. The two sides played for the Nathan Drewes Memorial Trophy, honouring the former player of both teams who tragically passed away last year. C-grade suffered its first loss of the season in division six, falling 5-4 to the Redlands Stingrays in a tight encounter.

03.01.2022 Pre-game 8/11/2020 BASEBALL: Had things gone to plan, Phil Vanderneut would currently be plying his trade in Canada. As we’ve learnt this year, certainty is just a word in the dictionary, and the star player has made a highly-anticipated return to the Rangers.... Vanderneut was able to blow the cobwebs out at Commonwealth Oval in a division five outing last week, which has him primed for an A-grade comeback on Sunday. He said there is a disappointment of not being able to travel and play, however he is relishing the chance to be back with old mates once again. I had plans this year to go to Canada and play a season there, Vanderneut said. Some of the imports that we’ve had over the years have been based there, and it was lined up through (former import) Dustin Asham. I’ve had the opportunity for years, but business has got in the road. This year was a perfect chance. COVID put a hold on that though, and now I get the chance to get a few games under my belt here, and it’s like I never left. Vanderneut has enjoyed a rich history with the Rangers, including playing his part in Toowoomba’s 2015 Pacific League title. It continued a long association with the club, dating back to his primary school years. I first played here when I was 11 or 12, and only gave it up about five years ago because of my business, he said. My brother Brent and I played T-ball for the Raiders. When that shut down, we all decided to come over to the Rangers. A few Brisbane clubs have tried to get me down there, but I’m a one club man. Vanderneut’s loyalty stems from the support the club has shown him over the years, including helping to get him to America for junior baseball’s most prestigious event. The Rangers have done a lot for me. Years ago they did a lot of fundraising to help me go overseas and play in the Little League World Series, he said. It was definitely an eye opener, from playing in front of a few families in Toowoomba to a few thousand in America. They’ve helped out my family a lot, and I want to show that loyalty back. I signed with the Toronto Blue Jays at 18, but an elbow injury saw the contract voided. But all these opportunities arose from playing here. In a side brimming with experience, Vanderneut said he is embracing the opportunity to be able to help out the young group coming through the ranks. I’ve had a lot of training and some great coaching, so I hope I can teach the young fellas a few things, he said. There’s an excellent vibe coming back. Everyone is rallying around each other and has a spring in their step. The Rangers take on the All Stars in a clash between division four’s only two unbeaten sides. B-grade can make it five wins on the trot when travelling to Redcliffe, with C-grade looking to achieve the same feat at Commonwealth Oval against Ipswich from 9.30am on Sunday.

01.01.2022 Pre-game 29/11/2020 LUKE Ardill is calling on an improved showing as the Rangers look to get back into the top four. BASEBALL: It might seem a bit early to call a pre-Christmas game a must win encounter.... However in the context of the GBL division four, the Rangers need to come away with a victory in their road clash this weekend. Toowoomba slid to fifth after its defeat to Pine Rivers, and heads to Runcorn chasing redemption against the ninth-placed Indians Mano. Captain-coach Luke Ardill said this week was a case of going back to basics as they look to cut errors out of their game and remain mentally strong for the entire contest. We had a chat about just going back to basics, Ardill said. Some of our errors shouldn’t have been made. We need to work on our communication between our players. We had a good chat about our mental fortitude. Calls aren’t going to go our way every time. We need to keep playing the way we can play. The B-grade Rangers will return home to Commonwealth Oval to take on the Mt Gravatt Eagles in a blockbuster encounter. The two sides are the only remaining undefeated sides in division five, with top spot on the line on Sunday. C-grade suffered its first defeat of the season last week, and gets the chance to bounce back on the road to the Indian Mohicans.
