With the real and serious risk of the Covid 19 virus, I will not be in attendance at pre polling, nor any of my supporters. The protection of the public, including our health workers is paramount. Please adhere to strict hygiene and social distancing. Hand washing, no face touching and no hand shaking . Be aware of your lung function or any cough or fever. Ring ahead and get tested if concerned. Please stay safe whilst voting, and please, I would love one of your votes, at space 14 on the ballot. SMOLENSKI Kirsten. Virtual Flyer below.
22.01.2022 In times like these, we are drawn to reflect on the things that matter the most. Family, friends, those in need, business and job security, health. In times like these we need to make good desicions and: Look out for your family and friends with spacial distance and staying home where possible.#stayathome,... Look out for our neighbours in need.#checkyourneighbour, Look out for your local business #tlcfortrc, Look out for health, mental and physical #itsgettingrealnow. Please take care.
22.01.2022 Election Summation: It is now over 60 hours since the close of poll for our LG election. I have completely enjoyed engaging with and learning from the community, and that won't change however... We still only know 6% of the count for Toowoomba, the same as two days ago! It is back to normal life for me, whatever the result however many candidates have their livelihoods at stake, Incumbent Councillors and those who have resigned from work, to run. Local Government is a vital part of our democracy and yet, this whole process from start to finish has been haphazard, inadequate and archaic, to say the least. The allowance of as many signs as one can physically erect (32 candidates, some with over 600 signs each, 1 with over 1000), despite the environmental and physical pollution, and the fact that the community still has very little information re the candidates, belongs in centuries past! It is a grotesque and unnecessary safety hazard to the public whilst having minimal information value. The overwhelming feedback from the public is that very little information on candidates is available. An information hub does not exist. Voters are expected to track down each candidate individually; a task too arduous for so many. With the enormous discrepancy between money spent by each candidate, ranging from $2,000 to over $60,000, there is a resulting discrepancy between information available. Again, the frustrated sentiment from the community is that; If it is compulsory to vote, it should be compulsory for the electoral commission to adequately inform voters on the candidates, and produce adequate information in a timely, inclusive and environmentally friendly manner. The voting process has also been severely compromised with the failure of postal votes to be dispersed on time, the inadequate and difficult phone vote system and the lack of protection at the polling booths. This has undoubtedly compromised the democratic process with many people unable to vote and as candidates, we were often accused and blamed by the public. The community deserves better and I implore those in all levels of Government to look seriously at these issues instead of ignoring them until the next election when we see it all again. Now back to see that still only 6% of the count is available! David Janetzki MP Trevor Watts Paul Antonio Deb Frecklington MP Annastacia Palaszczuk MP
21.01.2022 It’s a beautiful day in Mount Kynoch, and so hard to believe the angst and anguish that some in our region are going through. The regional council continues to function through these times, dealing with the issues, and I thank them. My garden looks green but many in Clifton, Cambooya, Cecil Plains, Yarraman and Vale view are still on high level water restrictions and our dams are only 35% capacity. ... Then there is this virus. There is now a confirmed case in our region with others in isolation. Please attempt to ‘flatten the curve’ with strict hand washing and social distancing. Cancel all non essential large gatherings, travel or outings. Please self isolate if you are over 70 yo and watch out for your elderly neighbors. Please don’t panic buy and make sure there are medications such as ventolin for the vulnerable. Please think of of health professionals who are on the front line by following all the above and sharing this message. Unfortunately we have an election going on in the middle of this: Please call the no on your voting card and try to phone vote. Otherwise, have your choices ready to minimalise time at the booths. Please stay safe.
20.01.2022 The most enormous congratulations to this amazing woman! Emma Mactaggart ‘s tireless work with Charity, and initiatives that benefit children, is astounding. The world is a better place due to your commitment, my friend.
18.01.2022 Toowoomba Regional Council Election Thankfully all canvassing by canditadates has been prohibited, in the vicinities of the polling booths. This will make voting easier, calmer and above all, safer.... As always, and especially with this health crisis in mind, It is important to elect a council who's no.1 priorty is the commitment to the welfare of our community. Basic election material now at polling booths.
17.01.2022 Thank you Goombungee Qld for this great post. With the safety of the public in mind, please share this with your over 60, sick, disabled, isolating or vulnerable friends.
16.01.2022 I am so very grateful to all those who have helped me through this campaign. Family, friends and even strangers. It’s very early days yet however win or loose, the experience has been amazingly rewarding in so many ways. We do things because they are hard and, of course, you never know if you don’t have a go. Now back to time in the garden with the animals! ... (All the kids home schooling) Thanks again.
16.01.2022 The businesses and initiatives that our council must support, ensuring our communities are looked out for in these trying times. Well done Jo and Cass!
15.01.2022 7 days to go in this election campaign and still so much to be done however There is a looming health crisis that could have grave consequences for many in our region, including our health workers. I will be working from home and I urge the community to do the same unless necessary. ... The week so far with one to go. #stayathome #staysafe #flattenthecurve
15.01.2022 So thankful! The fun we had this morning, with some of my constants, putting up yet more signs around this beautiful region. The continuous messages of support from friends old and new. Whatever the result today, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to put my hand up, and so humbled by the love and support offered back. ... Thank you!
15.01.2022 Thanks to ALDI Australia for their generosity and social consciousness. Food aid is so needed and appreciated in this region. Harlaxton Neighbourhood Centre. Tony’s Community Kitchen #AffordableHousing #governmentconviction #governmentintegrity
14.01.2022 It’s worked well in Melbourne, so should really make a difference here in Toowoomba. Congratulations @lifelinedarlingdowns. #affordablehousing #governmentconviction
12.01.2022 As most of you will know, my community focus has changed direction, due to the creation of #tlcfortrc which is our community support page for local businesses in the Toowoomba Regional Community. We began our page as COVID-19 hit our commiunity, just weeks before our local council election. Needles to say, I was not elected but I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and perhaps it just wasn't my forum. Our page currently has over 4600 members and is growing eve...ry day. The support of our local business has been truley amazing during this crisis and we are determined to keep it going and enhance it where we can. We have now created a business directory that is attached to our Facebook page, an Instagram page #tlcfortrc , and we are working on a website, all to show case and promote local business. Through our tlcfortrc Facebook page we have also engaged with numerous local charities and have plans for a community information session, around the huge needs in our community that are now being amplified by COVID. From now on, I will be using this page to post information surrounding the progress and issues of business, big and small along with the growing charity needs, in or region. I welcome your input. 12.01.2022 I’m predicting that voting today will be quieter than tomorrow. Take your own pen and hand sanitizer.
11.01.2022 The growth spiral of Community compassion, in action. From little things, big things grow! #CommunityActionWorks #loveourpeople. #tlcfortrc
07.01.2022 It’s a different and more difficult world. My Husband and Daughter are going to work, for which we are thankful but anxious. We are setting up the house in zones, for home school, and home uni students.... We are isolating from my Mother, ( we live next door) and are communicating across the garden. We are staying home, doing lots of jobs and thinking about all our friends who are now on the frontline of the crisis, in A&E, Intensive care, and all health areas. I am wanting to thank you for all you do. Here’s wishing you all stay safe today.
06.01.2022 Thank you for your support. Although the count is still in progress, the trends are set, and the new Councillors will be the 6 incumbents along with 4 newly elected, being Vonhoff, Shine, Taylor and McMahon. Congratulations to the top 10 for their election, and also to the other 21 candidates for running, and attracting significant support from the community. I would like to thank my family, friends and supporters for your support, physical and emotional, during my campaign.... It has been an incredibly uplifting and enlightening experience, from which I have learned so much, and found so valuable. Am I disappointed? To a point. My focus and determination was driven by my passion for our region, and my belief that I have a lot to offer for the betterment of the region. This focus has not changed. I made the decision to be as environmentally friendly as I could and not spend exorbitant amounts of money. I understood this would be difficult but was determined to try. For this, I am not disappointed. The lack of meaningful data, of candidates, creates an information vacuum. Apart from the incumbents who have a profile, it now appears that spending $50,000 plus and having the backing of a large political party or religious organisation, is required to fill this vacuum, putting election out of reach for so many. For this, I am very disappointed. This said, I would especially like to congratulate Melissa Taylor and Rebecca Vonhoff for their election. Both are first time candidates, have run comprehensive and independent campaigns, and will be fabulous assets, in council, with extensive business and community experience. I would also like to make mention of Joy Mingay, Lizzie Adams, Kevin Flanagan, Gary Humphries and David Campbell who were all, in my opinion, overwhelmingly qualified for election due to business experience and community engagement. Next time! Thank you again for all your support, Kirstie
06.01.2022 A big thank you to Aaron Goldie for TRC for resurrecting one of my signs in Millmeran today. The support and friendship from other candidates, @melissataylortrc, family and others who have picked up signs, has been one of the highlights of this campaign.
04.01.2022 A quick reminder that the pre polls are open tomorrow from 9am till 6pm, with polling day on Saturday 8am - 6pm. In light of the current crisis, it is of vital importance to elect a cohesive team, who can work together and who have the experience and knowledge, to support this region moving forward. With a key focus on water security, small business support, tourism and our environment, I believe I have the attributes to be a resourceful member of this team. ... As such, I would appreciate one of your 10 votes at the 14th space on the ballot paper. SMOLENSKI Kirsten. Stay well, Kirstie #staysafeandhome #supportlocalbusiness #localgovernmentmatter Virtual flyer below.

02.01.2022 With our Regional Council Election Day being tomorrow, I thought that I would share my original election post. Although our world has changed dramatically over the past 4 weeks, my desire to serve our community has only strengthened. I am standing for election as a Councillor within the Toowoomba Regional Council of 2020. It is with my comprehensive understanding of our region, broad experience within professional management and motivation to enhance the attributes of our sur...rounds, that I believe I would be able to serve as a resourceful member of our local Government. Being involved in busy family and business life, has now included more than 20yrs in small business and volunteering with associations and school committees and more P&F meetings than I can count! I understand the immense importance and reward of active participation in all things community. I would relish the opportunity to continue this work as a Councillor for the region. With a passion for being involved in the many aspects of my community and a keen and personal interest in the welfare and prosperity of our region, I have decided to stand for the Council election in March 2020. I am aware of the prime importance of maintaining roads, rates and rubbish while also managing a council area of 12,973 square kilometres and 170,000 people however, my priorities would also encompass matters of prosperity and liveability of our unique and beautiful region. As a Councillor I would focus on the following aspects within the region, 1. Liveability of the region a) Our built environment. Roads and pathways, parks and gardens and sporting facilities, both in the city and of regional towns. b) Water security and management, dams and access pipelines. c) Our natural environment including nature parks, native bushland and escarpment areas. d) The impact of climate change within these areas and determining schemes in order to resolve or aid these issues on a Council level. 2. Prosperity of the region. a) Business opportunities in town centres and industry areas, including parking and planning issues. b) Increased promotion of our regional towns, influencing employment and creativity. c) A major tourist attraction. 3. Inclusiveness a) Supported and increased promotion of Indigenous issues and initiatives within our region. b) A focus on and support for the initiatives that increase the assimilation of the migrant population into our region. c) Continued and increased support for minority groups. 4. Opportunity The provision of access to the amazing arts and sporting opportunities that exist in our region for all, encouraging community involvement and promoting the health (physical and mental) of our young people. 5. Integrity a) Disclosure b) Accountability and transparency c) Non-political affiliation or influence in Council
02.01.2022 Very interesting to see how our elected members vote. Know your vote!
