25.01.2022 A few years ago, Sophie started raising funds for MS research to support her mum and sister who are living with MS. Little did she know that she herself would soon be diagnosed with the disease in June this year at only 18 years old. After taking on #TheMay50K for two years running... and organising a school fundraiser, Sophie recently completed a 10km walk through Wollongong with her friends, raising an incredible $504 for MS research thank you so much Sophie! I hope a reason for this disease is found not only for my mother, my sister or myself, but also for every person who lives with MS every day. Join us in saying a massive THANK YOU to Sophie in the comments below! #RealMSResearch #Fundraising #MSSquad

22.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: First medication recommended for PBS inclusion for secondary progressive MS siponimod (Mayzent). The recommendation will now go before the Federal Government for final approval. The use of ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) for primary progressive MS was also considered for reimbursement on the PBS, but the PBAC did not recommend extending the listing of ocrelizumab to include people with early, MRI-active primary progressive MS. MS Research Australia provided a writt...en submission in support of both these medications to the PBAC and we actively advocate for affordable access to all proven treatment options. 17.01.2022 A message from our Board President, Assoc. Prof. Des Graham: At a time when many so many people have been isolated because of COVID-19, The May 50K and World M...S Days theme of Connection was incredibly relevant. It was incredibly gratifying to see, the Australian community, MS community, PwMS, carers, individual researchers, research institutes, donors, political officials, mums, dads and children at a national, states and territory levels and globally, connect so strongly together and work as one to raise awareness about the needs of PwMS and their Carers, the need for additional funding required to continue to pursue a cure for this disease and deliver support to the MS community. The magnificent outcomes over May 2020 and culminating on May 30 WMSD all occurred despite the logistical challenges we face at the moment as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns. The use of online forums and the creation of our Connections Hub to help people with MS to connect virtually this World MS Day was truly innovative and helped make World MS Day an extremely successful one for our Australian community. It was fantastic to see the support that our Prime Minister and of course, Tim Ferguson, provided for MS Day and I would encourage everyone to watch their videos, if they havent already done so. The May 50K event was an enormous success, raising over $6 million for MS research. This event highlighted the power and reach of the Australian community with over 36,000 people, of all ages, gender, backgrounds, and abilities participating. The financial reward was amazing, but the contributions to greater awareness within the broader community about MS and those who live with it every day is simply unquantifiable and something we should all feel unbelievably proud of. World MS Day and The May 50K are fantastic examples of what we can achieve on behalf of the MS community when we all work together. As President of MS Australia, as well as someone who lives with MS every day along with 26,000 other Australians, I want to convey my sincere gratitude to the very special staff at MS Australia, MS Research Australia and the State and Territory MS societies who worked so hard to make these events so successful and who worked long hours keeping us informed as activities and targets were achieved. In closing to everyone who joined in any activity over the month of May, at a very personal level, as President of MSA and, on behalf of the MSA Board and staff. Thank you. You are quite simply awesome. Kind regards Des #MS #MSconnections #MultipleSclerosis #MSABoard Kiss Goodbye to MS - Australia MS Australia
