24.01.2022 Congratulations to Bev Overton who was awarded her 40 year service bar by the Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services The Honourable Vincent Tarzia MP. Bev was a founding member of the Kangaroo Island SES Unit in 1980. Bev still attends the unit and is a valued member in her role as stores Maintenance. The Crew look forward to her continued support.

24.01.2022 This weekend K.I SES & SAAS went to Cape Willoughby once again to hone some Vertical Rescue and Casualty Access skills the two agencies working together like a well oiled machine and looking forward to the next level Cave Rescue.

22.01.2022 When Cfs call on the Ses for Help with Air operations we respond as we would any Emergancy. We deploy our Rapid reaction vehicles with its crew to the airfield to begin the task of filling the Water Bomber Aircraft so they can support Cfs crew on the ground.this short film was made using some of the videos taken by the crew during the last major fires on Kangaroo Island.

14.01.2022 Searching Remarkable Rock for a missing casualty who reportedly fell from the Rock and sustained injuries No one was found by the Ses crew The rescue helicopter also did an extensive search and after landing in the bus park to talk with Ses crew it flew to kingscote airport to refule and returned to Adelaide.

13.01.2022 With the fire season already upon South Australia Kangaroo Island SES Crew have already deployed to assist CFS Air Operations bomber support at Kingscote Airport to assist with fires on the mainland. Today K.I CFS CAR 1 relocated the air support refill trailer from Turkey lane airstrip to awaiting SES crew at the Kingscote Airport. The trailer has a large water pump and foam mixing equipment to rapidly fill the water bomber aircraft. The trailer can now be deployed to any airfield on the Island with a water supply as required within 30 minuets of receiving notification the Kangaroo Island SES Crew are poised to respond rapidly as they do for all Emergency incidents should they be needed. This short video Is made using body cam footage from previous deployments to show what goes on behind the scenes.

09.01.2022 It was fantastic to catch up with Corey Wingard Minister for emergency services at the kangaroo Island State Energency Service Unit, After a tour around the station we discussed some of the requirements of the unit and the need to be able to operate independently and be trained in all aspects of Rescue due to our remote location. We discussed some of the new technology being implemented to assist in search and rescue in particular R.P.A.S (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems...) and the potential to provide valuable life saving support to the public in an emergency particularly land search and vertical rescue as well as supporting other agencies with vital strategic aerial support such as CFS fire spotting and assistance during back burning operations. The cost effective R.P.A.S could not only save lives but has the potential to save thousands of dollars each time it is deployed in place of full scale aircraft. Local Aerial photography and Mapping business have offered to donate Two new R.P.A.S to the Kangaroo Island SES once the crew commence R.P.A.S operations. The K.I SES Crew are looking forward to training with R.P.A.S in the near future. See more

06.01.2022 Visitor Jane Fletcher is most grateful to the Kangaroo Island emergency services for rescuing her from Stokes Bay beach after she fractured her knee cap. Ms Fletcher, 66, from Adelaide was on the far end of the KI north coast beach on Sunday, October 18 when she tripped on rocks...

05.01.2022 Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Bevan Garmeister of Kangaroo Island State Emergency Service and team for hosting the Trauma Care Workshop run by the crew... from CareFlight Weve run two workshops back-to-back with 21 attendees on each session. Most importantly, weve had attendees from SES, CFS, DEWNR, Coastguard and SAAS - these are the volunteers who train under an individual emergency service agency but have to work together in the challenging prehospital environment The teams have had a refresher on some basic but life-saving skills in regard to trauma care - but more importantly they have been exposed to credible clinicians explaining why they do what they do on scene and how they think in a crisis I am confident that - with a little effort - we could run more joint agency exercises on KI in the future....perhaps a Saturday every 4 months spent sharing details of kit and capabilities, running a few basic sim scenarios or task-training sessions and having a BBQ Im also hopeful that someone - school, TAFE or perhaps Menss Shed could help us wit the next project - to create a road crash rescue car like Careflights! All we need is an old car wreck, a trailer chassis and some experts at welding!
