25.01.2022 5 TO 530PM TODAY... A snapshot of the data. 12 to 32 kts with stops at 19.... WNW and W winds are THE VARIABLE WINDS and a bit of a waste of time most times that they show up.

25.01.2022 SW...8 TO 9 KTS... Looking good for later.

24.01.2022 PLACE TO BE... But remember it is school holidays and covid so ACCOMODATION? Could be the issue. Exmouth. awesome forecast.... Shark Bay, nice also. HEAD NORTH... But don't assume you will get a bed.

24.01.2022 AN OCTOBER MONDAY...ANY BREEZE ON? YES, now, river, Attadale better than Pt Walter in an ENE. GO TIME.... LATER? A SW may sneak in sometime and give up 15 plus. A TWO KITES DAY... Thank you October, 4/5. Great 4 days too.

23.01.2022 13 FROM THE SOUTH... Not long, we hope. A Donkey or a Parrot will turn up at 15...

22.01.2022 THE MIRACLE OF NOVEMBER 7TH... In the words of Darryl Kerrigan...

22.01.2022 SUNSET SESSION???

22.01.2022 A THOUGHT... Someone I know just broke some bones and this reminded me of other people who have had similar experiences. They were men and women, often with a small foot and a (misfitting) large strap setup. IF you have a small foot and your straps are LARGE, don't really tighten down enough to really hold you.... You may come unstuck at some point. Lose a board in the air, land badly in shallow water. You may lose one foot in a wipeout. There are a bunch of things that can snap bones, tendons, ligaments. STRAPS THAT FIT... Worth the $.

21.01.2022 WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF ONE, TWO OR THREE OF THESE LIGHT SW DAYS GETTING USEFUL? Always a chance. Late and light if it happens.

21.01.2022 WSW 16 TO 20... Barometer higher and rising quickly = go now or soon. Variability is lower. WSW better than WNW. Much better.... What will it do? Shift SW as it DROPS IN SPEED. Kiting is NOW or soon. We are under a Winter weather system. Winter Rules Apply. GO TIME.

21.01.2022 18 PLUS...KTS.. SW... GO TIME.

20.01.2022 11, 12, 13 TOPS... Go see Ryan with your little patch up, stitch fix jobs. Take cake for VIP status. By time that you've dropped off your repairs it MAY be 15 plus, even 16 plus. Which is the new 25. It is mid Autumn, 15 to 18 is a big deal.... NEED A BIG TWIN TIP? We have an unused 160 Slingshot Glide. But that if you're not going foiling. Big twins are handy in Autumn and Spring. New board. But not expensive.

20.01.2022 SAND IS A BIT HOT...BECAUSE WIND IS NOT... 8 or 10 from the West. Wait. No need to rush. Finish the ironing Rod. Walk the dog Bevvo. Enjoy an Export Jumping Jonny. We wait.

20.01.2022 TODAY... Yes? No? Maybe? It is a definite maybe. A weak onshore flow of air in the wake of a weak cold front. Classic September situation. IN BETWEEN DAYS. ... If it hits 14 kts later today, the GO TIME post will go up. West wind though so choose a location that suits your skill level. A lot of beaches will have an onshore wind. But some will have side or side onshore wind. Go there.

19.01.2022 15 TO 18...ON THE SEA... Click.

18.01.2022 THANK YOU... I could start listing names, like Russell Lewis, Mikey Ryding, Timmy Grimm and on and on and forget a few of the 696 people who occasionally or often-ally (new word) check in with KITEBASE. THANK YOU all so much for being supportive and a part of this serious/not so serious look at the world of kiting.... We just finished the first five years. It's a bit of a shame that the equipment rental part of the enterprise has copped a COVID spanking. But then there are you guys, team 696. Thanks for being there. We will try to keep up with FINDING USEFUL VIDEOS to post for you edu-tainment. Let you know each day when it is GO TIME. Just wanted to say thank you to you all. One more time, thanks, David.

18.01.2022 SSW 14... GO TIME.

18.01.2022 15 TO 17... GO TIME.

18.01.2022 MAYBE LATER... NW wind and a low-ish barometer. But, the centre of the low pressure system we are influenced by is a very long way away. Maybe. That's today, a maybe. If the flow behind the cold front is faster, between more tightly spaced isobars we could get something out of it.... WATCHING CONDITIONS AS USUAL... Keen to get out today? Watch for a GO. See you at 15 plus.

18.01.2022 16 TO 19 SSW WIND.... Now. It is GO TIME. Wind all day.

17.01.2022 NO EASTERLY... Keep calm. 15 to 20 forecast for the sea later. 5/7 this week, in mid Autumn. Very nice.

17.01.2022 NO WIND DAY... 230am, 8 to 12 kts, now 3 or 4 kts. A light Land Breeze. Why no wind today. Very simplified. Trough on the coast. Land and sea surface temperatures kind of similar. No real pressure differences between land and sea so the see-saw is kind of balanced. ... Maybe. If it's warmed up (land). The trough slides East. We may get a light sea breeze Sunday or Monday. These are capital M maybe's.

17.01.2022 GO LOOK TIME... You may get the golden hour. Which earns Golden Surfer Points. Taking the Crown away from Rod George! That would take a lot of water time.

16.01.2022 14 15 ON THE SEA... G.T.

16.01.2022 NICE AIR... The Trough is gone, air pressure coming up, a High on it's way in and it will dominate for a while. Dominant High = lots of morning SE and afternoon SW. ... VERY NICE... West wind now so wait a while for SW. See you at SW and 15 kts o'clock.

16.01.2022 IN BETWEEN DAY... We are in between that odd Surface Low (yesterday) and a Weak Cold Front (tomorrow). Sunny but don't expect wind. Too cool for a sea breeze. Next Low too far South to show us tight isobars and a low barometer.

16.01.2022 E WIND SESSION... GO TIME. River now good. Later? Now is good. 5am.

16.01.2022 NICE AIR DAY... Yesterday, very nice, hope you got out. Today, the Trough well to the East so a nice space for air to flow into on the coastal plains. Very nice.... A 15 to 20 kt day, suits everyone at some point in the day. WATCH FOR THAT 15 KT GO TIME... Have a great session. REMINDERS... Kite knife? Are you carrying one in your harness? If not, do go get one from a kite shop. If you ever need one and don't have it, well, that is a bad day. Stay bad day free, knife, have one. SEAGRASS AND RAZOR SHELLS... Try NOT to go stomping through seagrass beds, you may step on a big but brittle shell, it isn't pretty. If you see kiters walking in seagrass let them know that if the cobblers don't stick them the razor shell may get them. Seagrass is full of sealife. Body drag over it, don't walk through it.

15.01.2022 18 PLUS... GO TIME

15.01.2022 WELL... Garden Island just got a 15 kt base wind. It's good enough for me. Orbit time.... GO TIME is BOLT TIME.

15.01.2022 SSS... SIXTEEN knots (now) 920am, on the SEA, SPRING breezes. Nice day again today. After today?... A hugh High with 1038 hPa at centre. Wow. It will pump morning E winds across the Swan Coastal Plain for Monday/Tuesday. OCTOBER... 3/4 so far locally. Very nice. If you are hearing from someone that the wind just hasn't been on yet. Listen to other people. Saturday was fantastic, Friday was superb though cold. Today, a gift. Jump in.

15.01.2022 WIND...ON...AT 930... Big kites day. 13 to 16 knots. But nice since 930am.

14.01.2022 A VERY NICE E WIND ON... NOW. GO TIME.... There are 3 spots that are great in an E wind, on the River. 1. Point Walter. 2. Attadale Dog Beach. 3. Remains un-named, you have to find it. Don't ask. 4. Is there a magic spot on the ocean in an E wind? Yes. Woodies Beach 3. Not for the new rider. 100% side shore wind BUT the shore runs out after a while and then you go to Carnac Island. But. Good flat water. But. Has it's downside IF you make a mess of it.

14.01.2022 TODAY... Up Down All Around...a bit average. Kind of yucky. Did you get a good bit of air in all that. Super variable.

13.01.2022 KITING ALL DAY EAST WINDS...

13.01.2022 THAT KITE LINE TUNING WORKSHOP... Sunday December 6th at 10am. Starts at 10am, wrapped up by 1145am.... Eight persons maximum. Five paid up people a minimum. Three of you said you were keen, Tom, Tyson and Damian. We need five committed people who are happy to pay their $25 in advance. Five people signed up and we run it. Once you say you are in you do need to pay the $25. If you don't show up on the dasy, no refund so please don't think you can say you are in and then change your mind. If we get less than five paid up people by the Saturday (day before) we cancel and refund you. Simple. Bring your bar/bars. We have all the tools required. We will tune your bar/bars WITH you and then you know HOW TO MAINTAIN them. Nice.

13.01.2022 PHOENIX...THEY ARE KNOWN TO RISE... The breeze on the river, also, rising. Slowly coming up. Foilers go time now. Twin tip riders, on a big kite, go time. 12m for light riders. 14's n 15's for the heavy riders. GO TIME but just, and big kites n boards or foils. 9am.

12.01.2022 FOR THE NON 5AM KITERS... Stronger wind later. Classic day. E early and SW later. Looking at the charts though, the nexr few days are interesting. A Trough AND a Cold Front in the picture. Not great.... So. Get out today.

10.01.2022 GO TIME... WNW so an onshore at almost all spots locally. But 15 plus.

10.01.2022 SW 13 14 HERE AT PENGUIN ISLAND... GO LOOK TIME.

09.01.2022 A LITTLE TIP... Melville Waters data, the equipment reads light on some wind directions. Always worth going to have a look. Especially if wind is from the ENE NE. Like now.... Take a book. You may get a little light reading in while you wait on East winds. YESTERDAY... If you timed it well. Know what to look for. And were there (river) at 830am. You got a VERY nice, short, session in. GO LOOK... Equipment does under represent the actual wind, sometimes.

09.01.2022 GARDEN ISLAND 20 KTS SW... Game On.

09.01.2022 SW 8 9 KTS... Will it get to the 15-20 forecast? It has that feel about it. ... Parrot gets off his perch at 15. See you then.

09.01.2022 ROTTNEST HAS 15, GARDEN ISLAND 10... Maybe 15 kts on the beaches by 4. Watching it.

08.01.2022 CHANCE OF CHANGE... Forecast may have said, NO, for today. BUT...... Live data from the sea says, MAYBE, and it says, WATCH FOR A GO TIME. 12-13 kts now at Woodies. Will it get up another 3 or 4 kts? Watch for the GO.

07.01.2022 EX RENTAL EQUIPMENT SALE... Advert Alert. We have a few pieces of equipment going soon.... Not a lot but some footstrap sets...some boots...a couple of 8m's and 14's...twintip bags...a surfboard or two. For now. A 139 Wakeboard deck. Wake NOT kite. Not a kite-able board. But bolt boots on for the Park. Grind base. $40.

07.01.2022 13, 14...THE PARROT IS STAYING PUT... But, if you are super keen, go look, you may time it perfectly and get 15ish. Take a big kite. Big board.... And, Fish n Chip money. That way you can't lose.

07.01.2022 THE MORNING EAST WIND? Enough for foils now. Twin tip riders? Maybe, maybe not.... GO TO KNOW... River data (live data( is a bit hard to come by. Go look. It is GO LOOK time.

07.01.2022 Just in case SELF RESCUE is a little unclear, rusty, or even worse...you don't know how to (book training session). Always worth a few minutes of a new kiters time, to refresh on this essential skill.

07.01.2022 RADAR... Here is the chunk of cloud we are under for a few hours. Possibly some kite-able air after the cloud. Iffy though.

06.01.2022 SAME AS YESTERDAY... It did get in, just enough, but late. Foxes were consulted and the wisdom of the Kitsune was, "It is Autumn, late and light the breeze may be, patience".... If you were there, for the last hour of daylight, well done, you outfoxed Fujin.

06.01.2022 WNW WIND AT 11AM... Which means we are still under a trough. Rubbish wind. Stay tuned for GO TIME, at 15 kts SW. We don't get excited about W or WSW on days like these.... Fingers crossed.

05.01.2022 KITING WIND ON... Now. Good in Warnbro Sound, around Pt Walter, same, good. GO TIME.

05.01.2022 13 14 KTS ON THE BEACH WHERE WE ARE STANDING...FREO... GO TIME, though a slow go it will be.

04.01.2022 IN SLIGHTLY NOT SO INTERESTING NEWS... US election??? No idea. But, KITEBASE counting shows 697 yes votes. If you know any kiters that like no budget kite videos, mostly accurate GO TIME alerts.... Please point them at the page. The 700 thing has been ages in arriving. Of course then it's on to the 1K. But 700 feels good. Kiter of the week... Rod George. The Citrus Man.

04.01.2022 HOLD OFF TIME... Not GO TIME Rod George, hello Rodney. 10 to 12...blah wind.... TROUGH WAS OVERHEAD RECENTLY... 18kts today would be a miracle. I'm kneeling now at St Domenics in Henderson. My candles are lit. Donations made towards the new Parish Hall. Is incense inapproprite? Some Om's at St Doms?

04.01.2022 SSW 10-11 KTS... Will it get up. Come on TURBO.

03.01.2022 THE TAIL... Of a 4000-5000 km long Cold Front will brush us today. Pre-frontal W winds today.... Post-frontal SW and S for Friday and Saturday. Three days on water. Very nice. Being at the tail end, the 1012 hPa end, not the 990 hPa end don't expect anything wild. Transition time. Weaker Cold Fronts, light sea breezes. If you are Roadtripping North you are kiting all the time. If you are in the South, patience is a virtue.

03.01.2022 INTERPRETING PRESSURE CHARTS... Come on a two minute Meteorology Tutorial. Could be useful. FRI...Look at chart labelled 1. The Trough line, dotted. It is over the ocean later today. E wind will flow toward it. Wind flows counter clockwise in a High Pressure System (in Southern Hemisphere). ... SAT...Chart labelled 11. A complex series of Troughs that dominate the continent. Low wind and varable wind for us in SW WA. SUN...Chart labelled 111. Trough close by and incoming Cold Front. Very confused air locally. Lighter winds. Variable. Not great. MON...Chart 1V. The area behind the Cold Front. Colder denser air. Flowing faster. The lines, the isobars, the closer together they are on pressure charts = faster wind. Wind from the S. Wind flows clockwise in Low Pressure Systems (Southern Hemisphere). BEST KITING TIME... For Fri Sat Sun. NOW. River. NOWNOW. For Mon? Too far away to talk about reliably. But if your love your Seabreeze forecast for that far ahead of time, in a very confused air-vironment, don't be disappointed if it's not accurate. A forecast for 2, 3, 4, 5 days out WILL get amended. There you go. Pressure Charts. They are what professional water (boating/shipping) and air (aviation) people look at. Go PRO.

02.01.2022 MON, TUE, WED... Three in between days. In between it being Wintery enough to send thumping Lows, being Summery enough to send giant Highs.... SOLUTION... Go to a warm place where the land/sea temp differences pull in sea breezes. Exmouth/Shark Bay. Or, wait a week or two. Once daytime max temps in perth are 25,26 or up we will get those early in the warm season SW winds at 14 to 20 kts.

02.01.2022 WAITING... If you are on the Ningaloo coast, you are kiting, a lot. If you are in the metro area, you are waiting.... See the Cold Front arriving on Thursday night? After that, two days of cool but faster air. PLAN... Wait, do other things on Wed/Thu. Kite Fri Sat. Or, hit the road, 1200km North has a different climate. Accomodation though, school holidays, may be the sticking point.

01.01.2022 SSE WIND NOW (830am)... Great, GO TIME. Where to in SSE?... Pelican Point. The Pond. Woodman Point 1 and 2. DON'T WAIT...IT SHOULD DROP OFF SOON... AND, SUPER HANDY DOLLAR SAVING ADVICE... Name and number, written on your board. I rescued a few lately with no number on them. You don't owe me a beer. Beetroot Juice please.
