25.01.2022 REFLECTIONS | with the endings and beginnings 2020 has shared with me I am taking the time to reflect on business, family, friendships and values I wish to carry forward into my next chapter. The next chapter is very decadent + allows me to spread happiness, sprinkles and fun throughout Aus #hinthint I have had both snippets and huge plans offered going forward all of them basking back in the sunshine for now as the last chapter is packed up this weekend (don’t forget t...he pack up sale) I want to say thank you to those who shared joy + made memories in our pink walls, and personally thank those who asked and truly cared how I was during the really dark teary days, months and ultimately years of torment allowing me to see the sparkle in the world is there and would once again return. The super happy parts I will never forget, the really parts have served as a cracker of a lesson in business, boundaries and behaviour of what is and is not ok from other human beings. 24.01.2022 THIS! Honesty. I do hope people take the time to read and reflect on this article from the point of view of hospitality owners (this man is an absolute gem ) who have no clue on what or when our new normal will be. Pivoting, planning and positivity do not change the fact that statistically myself and many of my colleagues will lose everything - business, family homes, relationships and friendships - livelihoods are one thing (and can be rebuilt) but the dignity of others ...and their security and life should not be in a daily dance around by Governments in an industry where we do not build our business on square metres, hand sanitiser and keeping your distance. We are a people industry and I so hope that it is one that will be looked after as much as we look after others once all is said and done. My question - why are we not showing compassion to these workers who are stranded here also by none of their own doing and have contributed to the betterment of our country in paying their tax contribution many trying to make a better life for their family. I know I personally have employed several visa holders over my 30 years and without them I would never have been able to run my businesses to the level of success I have. That is a lot of years and a lot of financial contribution by them don’t you think? Enough that we could surely look after them first and then let’s talk about the future of an industry that looks bleak. That bleakness also will affect the bottoms line of the country’s economy also. Just a thought in a time where the tag line seems to be we are all in this together. See more

17.01.2022 To all the business owners out there - how are you really? No BS! No blue skies + rainbows -how are you really? I’ve been honoured and humbled today to have some of the gutsiest honest conversations about how fucked this whole Coronavirus lockdown + lockdown 2.0 (love that one @thepartybebe) for the whole of Victoria not just Melbourne how it is and how it will be,the fact of people not following basic rules and how it can cost so many businesses much more than a visioned dre...am. We really are ALL impacted by this latest lockdown-the lack of being able to utilise all our leased or mortgages spaces due to square metre rules, the lack of daily customers,the lack of tourists,the worry of ability to service our debt (like so many people) despite much appreciated government financial assistance the worries are just doubled as a business owner as we all have obligations to suppliers + our Team + our loved ones + little loves depending on us to be their safe place day in day out. Today I realised so many business owners have not been asked if they are ok- people small talk, whinge and whine, we smile, the media and business associations promote the local economy to the best they can and we say oh the sun will come out again (and it will) but I ask you this evening have you asked the owner or Team members of a business you are they really truly ok? The weight of Coronavirus is a huge reality of business right now (and the )but how thoughtful it would be if instead of assuming we are all closing up and going broke,have to sell our family homes all whilst grieving the fact our future we had worked so hard for and dreamed of has been taken away by no fuck up of our own doing you asked sincerely -are you doing as best as you can be in this really fucking awful reality of 2020? 12.01.2022 JUST BE THOUGHTFUL OF OTHERS | yesterday my industry lost another talented soul to despair and I lost a friend and mentor of over 20 years I am not going to use social media for a rant about politics or right or wrong decisions- what I am going to ask is that anyone reading this ask a business owner how they are, really are and take the time to listen. Many aren’t ok, they are in a pause not edited by them, but do want to do the right thing all the while caring about their futures, their families, their Teams, pondering the insecurity of cash flow and business and anxiously awaiting what is next.
