18.01.2022 MEET OUR PEAK ATHLETES // Meet our 'Pathways for Elite Athletes at Knox (PEAK)' student athletes. This week we hear from Year 7 student and skier Bradley Manns. 1. How did you first get involved in your sport and what do you love about your sport now?... I became involved in my sport as my parents were keen skiers and they took me out onto the mountain and I have loved it ever since. The thing I love most about mogul skiing is even though it is not a team sport, everyone you train with and compete against is cheering you on and encouraging you no matter what. 2. What has been your best/recent sporting achievements? My best sporting achievements was placing first in duals and singles in 2019 Junior series at Perisher and Thredbo. I am also fortunate enough to have been selected to Snow Australia’s Emerging Talent program for the last two years. 3. What are your career ambitions for your sport? My career ambitions are definitely trying to compete in the Australian Championships event at Perisher once I’m old enough in two years’ time. 4. How has the PEAK program supported you in managing your sports and academics? The PEAK program has helped me in a lot of areas including the study hall sessions on Friday mornings. I also feel that the talks we have had about mindfulness this term have helped me a lot with being less stressed about all the upcoming yearly exams. 5. How you managed your academic commitments while training in Perisher throughout Term 3? My mentor in the PEAK program helped me to develop a plan for staying on top of my academics throughout the ski season. The key benefit from this was that they helped me put a spreadsheet together so that I could clearly see what work I have to get completed and when to hand it in. They also assisted with advising my class teachers when I would be absent for training and having the class material available on Google Classroom. FIND OUT MORE Applications are now open to join the Pathways for Elite Athletes at Knox Program in 2021. For more information, visit www.knox.nsw.edu.au/PEAK and contact Mr Kieran Donohue, [email protected].

17.01.2022 FLASHBACK FRIDAY // Ahead of Presentation Day next week, we flashback to 5 December 1974 when then Prime Minister and Knox Old Boy Gough Whitlam visited the School to speak at Speech Night. "It is not without significance - and not without a certain irony - that the jubilee of Knox and the second anniversary of the Labor Government are being observed in the same week," he said. "I am probably the only person in Australia who has attended both celebrations and derived keen pe...rsonal satisfaction from each. I must confess that the atmosphere in Diamond Valley on Monday night was a trifle more rapturous than it is in Wahroonga." "For many years I nurtured an overwhelming ambition - I was resolved to be the first Knox boy to live at The Lodge," he said. "What better way to bring honour to the School? Fifty years ago when I came here, no one dreamed I would one day be Prime Minister." #FlashbackFriday #flashback
