25.01.2022 It's been a busy month at Koala Cottage. The children have been engaging with nature during Outdoor Classroom Day, spending the day replanting our herb and vegetable gardens, using bark for our drawings, enjoying lunch, al fresco before resting in the shade, watching the trees sway in the wind and listening to the sounds of the different insects and birds.

24.01.2022 Our Pre-schoolers have been taste testing freshly juiced apples. They agree that the red apple juice is sweeter than the green apple juice!

23.01.2022 The children and educators at Koala Cottage rugged up in their pyjamas last Friday for National Pyjama Day. We enjoyed popcorn and a movie while raising money to support children in Foster care.

22.01.2022 The Federal Government announced today (Thursday 3rd April 2020) a support package for families where they have said that they will provide free child care during the Coronavirus Pandemic by essentially waiving the gap fee. Precise details are still to be received but the Prime Minister stated: If you have terminated your enrolment since 17 February, then I encourage you to get back in contact with your centre and re-start your arrangements. Re-starting your enrolment will ...not require you to send your child to child care and it certainly wont require you to pay a gap fee. Re-starting your enrolment will, however, hold your place for that point in time when things start to normalise, and you are ready to take your child back to their centre. We are strongly encouraging families that have ceased care with us to get back into contact and recommence your enrolment so we can cover your childcare costs and waive the gap fees. We thank everyone for their patience during this time and thank all of our amazing families for being so supportive! I will call all families over the next few days who have ceased care and see what we can do to help as we would love to see your children back in the Centre with their friends.

22.01.2022 We celebrated the birthdays of our amazing educator, Jess and our fabulous cook, Fabiana last Wednesday with a movie/pyjama day. The children enjoyed munching on popcorn while watching Finding Nemo! Happy birthday Jess and Fabiana!

20.01.2022 Yesterday was National Sorry Day and today marks the beginning of Reconcilation Week. Koala Cottage honours the stength of the stolen generation and we commit to working towards true reconciliation by acknowledging past mistreatment of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We walk gently on this land. #Inthistogether

20.01.2022 The children of Koala Cottage have been exploring aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through stories, art, symbols and dramatic play. We hope by educating children about the history of our first people, we can work together to move forward on the path to true reconciliation. Today we decorated our bridge with gum leaves, collected in our street. The children drew on the leaves and then hung them on the bridge using red, black and yellow ribbon and wool. We then made our way across the bridge together, reminiscent of the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk for Reconciliation in 2000.

16.01.2022 Each day this week the children are making a wreath out of Rosemary to commemorate ANZAC Day. This wreath then takes pride of place as we hold our own version of a dawn service. The Last Post is played, and The Ode is recited before we bow our heads in silence as we remember the sacrifices and devestation of war. Lest We Forget.

15.01.2022 The children have noticed the change in the weather, leading to discussions about Autumn. We have noticed the leaves are starting to change colour and fall into our playground. Today we read the story "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert, before heading out into the playground to see if we could find or create a Leaf Man. Using leaves, sticks and seed pods, the children displayed their creativity as they engaged with nature. See if you can find a 'Leaf Man' next time you are walking around the neighbourhood!

12.01.2022 We always knew that our Koala Cottage families were beautiful, generous people. Our families have joined together and donated 55 backpacks to this amazing cause. I want to say a big thank you to all that were involved!

10.01.2022 In keeping with the theme of Reconciliation Week, "In this together" the children and educators have used a native Australian ingredient to creat delicious cookies to share with our families. Lemon Myrtle has been used by Indigenous Australians for over 40000 years, by wrapping the leaves in paperbark to flavour fish, and to treat headaches by crushing and inhaling the leaves. It really was a treat for the senses as the children tore and crushed the leaves to add to the biscuit mixture.
