25.01.2022 THE CHAMPION HOUSE IS...CHISHOLM! Days like today could not happen without the time, energy and talents of all of our Kolbe students and staff. How blessed we are! Congratulations to Chisholm House who not only took out the Champion House Shield but who dedicated their win to our departing Principal, Ms Miller, who was the foundation Chisholm House Coordinator nearly 30 years ago. Also well done to Xavier House for winning the Spirit Shield.... Thats another KCC Athletics Carnial in the bag. Thank you to our amazing HPE team for another sensational carnival. 25.01.2022 SPORTS UNIFORM TRIAL FOR YEARS 7-10 STARTS 21 JULY Students in Years 7-10 who have a Movement and Physical Education lesson will continue wearing their sports uniform to and from school on the two days a week this class appears on their timetable in Term 3. This is part of Term 3 trial to determine if this can become a permanent change to the Colleges uniform policy.... Students in Years 11 and 12, students in 8-10 with a HPE elective, and dance and drama students will still be required to change at the beginning of their lessons, and will wear their full winter uniform to and from school. There are clear guidelines students will need to follow to ensure the trials success, and a Student Uniform Register has been created and placed in Maxs Mail so that students and teachers can easily check who is allowed to be in sports uniform each day.

23.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR WHEELER Mr Wheeler joined Kolbe Catholic College in its foundation year, and is still a favourite amongst students and staff 31 years on. Today, Mr Wheeler celebrated a special birthday, and staff and students marked the occasion by wearing their favourite team guernsey (As well as giving him his very own Freo Dockers jumper with his name on the back!) Dont let the grumpy face fool you; he loves it.

22.01.2022 SPECTATOR RESTRICTIONS AT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Tomorrow is our KCC Athletics Carnival, and while parents and families are welcome to come along, COVID-19 restrictions will limit visitors to a designated spectator area. Congratulations to these students whose work has been selected to share with the wider community.... 21.01.2022 STUDENTS GIVEN SALVOS DONATION BAGS Salvation Army Winter Appeal On Monday, all students were given a Salvation Army Winter Appeal bag. This is an initiative taken by the Branching Out team in order to help the community. ... We know that 2020 has been a challenging year for many, but if students are able to donate what they can here are some ideas: blankets, sleeping bags, winter clothes (slippers, pyjamas, jumper, tracks, beanies, new underwear and socks) and other similar items. We ask all student to consider the dignity and self-worth of the person who will wear/use the donated items - students and parents may, by all means, donate secondhand and worn clothing, but they should be reminded to give items of decent quality. Please return all bags by Tuesday Week 4 (11th August) and place them in the Chapel.

20.01.2022 HONOURING THE ANZAC SPIRIT Today is a significant day for Australians everywhere as we commemorate the dedicated service of all those who have served our country, forging and honouring the ANZAC spirit. It is also a special day each year for our College community as we thank and celebrate those Kolbe families who serve or have served in the Australian Defence Force.... Lest We Forget.



19.01.2022 YEAR 12 SPORT & REC STUDENTS COACH YEAR 7s Earlier in the week when the sun was shining, the Year 12s relished the chance to coach the Year 7s in a range of sports, assisting them in skill development and taking responsibility for the overall organisation of the sessions. The coaching sessions were an important part of Year 12s Cert II Sport & Rec course, and the Year 7s clearly loved getting to hang out with the big kids.

19.01.2022 SPORTS UNIFORM TRIAL - UPDATE After the first week of our Term 3 Sports Uniform Trial we are making a small change. Students in Years 7-10 who are involved in the trial must arrive at the College wearing the full tracksuit and stay in it until recess. Students must then put their full tracksuit back on at the end of the school day.... These expectations are the same as those that apply to the College blazer and are an important part of representing the College with pride.

17.01.2022 KOLBE DAY AND CATHOLIC DAY This year we are lucky enough to be able to celebrate Kolbe Day on the Feast Day of our patron St. Maximilian Kolbe - Friday, August 14. Students wear their sports uniform and House shirt to school. Monday August 17 is Catholic Day for our College which means a pupil-free day and the College will be closed. Office hours resume at 8am on Tuesday August 18.

17.01.2022 KOLBE DAY 2020: LITURGICAL DANCE The Kolbe Liturgical Dance Troupe made up of dancers from Years 10, 11 and 12 pre-recorded this beautiful dance which was shown during our Kolbe Day Mass today. It was a lovely moment in what was a wonderful service. The dance was choreographed by Kayla Chatfield to Defender by Francesca Battistelli.

17.01.2022 FELT MONSTERS COME ALIVE The Year 7s were engrossed in making felt monsters in their sewing classes last week as they practised their embroidery stitches. There were definitely some creative monsters being brought to life!

16.01.2022 YEAR HASS 8 FOOD AND CULTURE ACTIVITY The students in Mrs VL and Mrs McKeaigs Year 8 HASS classes brought their study of culture and identity to a culmination with a multicultural feast today! There was Irish sodabread, South African Biltong along with some milk tarts, Lecheflan from the Phillipines, Zilabia from South Sudan, arepes from Venezuela and Naleshicki form Poland to name just a few of the delectable dishes the kids made and brought in today.... The students had spent time in class looking at Australian identity and what has influenced the development of that identity, which led to lots discussion and exploration of other cultural identities.

15.01.2022 LIVING AND LEARNING IN PARADISE It's days like these we really get to appreciate the incredible coastal town in which we get to learn With Marine Studies starting back today, we thought we would reminisce on the adventures of last terms Year 9 Marine Studies class!... We are now in Autumn, and today's weather shows we can never take for granted our backyard, Rockingham!

15.01.2022 SCHOOL RETURNS TOMORROW As the Premier confirmed earlier today , the 3-day lockdown ends tonight and school will resume as normal tomorrow for all students. Students in all year groups will be required to wear properly fitted and appropriate masks for Week 2. This includes travelling to and from school, and while on public transport. 14.01.2022 ANOTHER AWESOME KOLBE DAY IN THE BAG! Kolbe Day in 2 minutes! It is one of our favourite days of the year, and this might just have been the best one yet. This year has brought with it limitations and restrictions for all of us, but we have adapted and stayed positive, and in the end we pulled off a great Kolbe Day. ... 12.01.2022 $20 BOSS - EDUCATION AWARD FINALISTS For the fourth year in a row two of our Year 9 Challenge Based Learning students have been shortlisted for the 2020 National $20 Boss Enterprise of the Year Award in the Senior: Years 9-12 category. The $20 Boss program is an initiative of the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) and backs young people to build, design and deliver a business with real money, and real consequences. 11.01.2022 RKAS SOCCER and NETBALL BACK IN ACTION It was great to see our Rockingham-Kwinana Associated Sports (RKAS) competition get back into the swing of things in the last two weeks. In recent weeks our Year 8/9 soccer and netball teams have played The Kings College and Peter Carnley Anglican Community School. ... The netballers won against The Kings College and narrowly lost against Peter Carnley. While the soccer boys have celebrated two wins so far.

09.01.2022 YEAR 7 BOUNCE EXCURSION The Year 7’s were quite literally bouncing off the walls during a recent excursion to Bounce: Indoor Trampoline Centre. They unleashed their free spirits by somersaulting, dodgeballing and freestyling the afternoon away! A fun and energetic way for our youngest students to express themselves, team build and form relationships, Bounce had a little bit of something for everyone. ... It’s clear why this is a favourite tradition for the Year 7’s at Kolbe!

09.01.2022 ALUMNI NEWS Congratulations to Jake, a past Kolbe student, who was recently awarded AWCI Apprentice of the Year Award for his work with SP Ceilings. Jake left Kolbe in 2018 to pursue an apprenticeship with Scott Park Group as a result of his hard work during the Year 11 VET program. During this program, Jake was enrolled one day per week at South Metro Tafe to achieve a Cert II in Building and Construction and also completed work experience with SP Ceilings. SP Ceilings is o...ne of WA’s largest residential building groups and were very pleased with Jake’s efforts as a work experience student, offering him a full-time apprenticeship in Wall and Ceiling Lining. Kolbe students are fortunate to have a variety of study pathways available in Years 11 and 12 including Vocational and Educational Training, alternate University pathways such as the TLC Murdoch and CurtinUni Ready programs, and direct University pathways through ATAR. The diversity in choice means Kolbe students can achieve success and be future-ready.

09.01.2022 GATE STUDENTS MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE Our Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students have risen to the challenge of making the world a better place using artificial intelligence or AI. After working on their concepts for awhile, the students presented their amazing ideas yesterday, including a smart watch that monitors stress levels. The catchy name is a winner, too: Watch Your Stress! ... The students ideas will be submitted to Microsofts AI for Good Challenge this weekend.

08.01.2022 MARSHMALLOWS AND WAVE ENERGY IN YEAR 9 SCIENCE Mr Fernandez class enjoyed a sweet demo this week in Science where marshamllows were used to highlight how longitudinal and tansverse wave energy works. And despite many, "Sir, can I eat the marhsmallows?" requests, the clever invention (many thanks to our lab techs Mr Gonzalez and Mrs Stewart!!) avoided being devoured and was used in other Science classes throughout the week.

08.01.2022 LEAVERS JACKETS ARE HERE! The Year 12s had an exciting start to the term with the arrival of their leavers jackets. As is the tradition, the students were invited to submit designs which the year group voted on. Congrats to George whose design was picked!

08.01.2022 YEAR 10s SET SAIL Our students sailed the Swan River in style last night and celebrated the year’s end at the Year 10 River Cruise. The theme was black, white and neon and our students did not disappoint with their creativity. Given the smiles in these photos, I’d say they had a pretty great time!

07.01.2022 COVID CANT CONSTRAIN KOLBE CREATIVITY Terrible alliterations aside (), the artwork coming out of the Visual Art learning area is incredible. This sample of works comes from the Year 10, 11 and 12 classes. ... If you spot the images that contain thrift shop paintings, you can see that The Year 10s took the existing paintings and had to explore how they could change the story in the artwork adding objects and subject matter that juxtaposed the original meaning. Other pieces included here are still life drawings, oils and acrylics. They look awesome!

06.01.2022 FRIDAY FUNDAY MUSICAL CHAIRS The sun peeked out long enough for this weeks Friday Fun on the Avenue which was a rousing game of musical chairs. Ms Miller had a great time running around in her stockinged feet (spoiler alert: she didnt win!) Thanks to the Year 12 leaders for organising it and to Mr Gryl for pumping out the tunes as usual every Friday.

06.01.2022 PRINCIPALS MORNING TEA FOR HIGH ACADEMIC ACHIEVERS Each semester, students from Year 7-12 who achieved outstanding reports - generally consisting of a high number of A grades across multiple subjects in their year level - are invited to morning tea with Ms Miller, Ms Davies, Mr Shanassy and the Heads of Year. This semester 140 students were awarded certificates acknowledging their wonderful efforts.... On Tuesday, we celebrated the Year 8s and Year 12s On Wednesday, it was the Year 9s and Year 11s And today, it was the Year 7s and Year 10s Congratulations to all of these students whose hard work and dedication to their studies saw each of them achieve such impressive results in Semester One.

05.01.2022 GEOLOGY ROCKS! Year 8 Science students have been learning all about the rock cycle this week through hands-on experiments. Using a sugar cube, students practically walked through the steps of a rock cycle identifying metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous stages.... Using real world contexts through experimentation better helps our students understand and make connections to the content learnt in the classroom.

05.01.2022 A LOVE OF LEARNING AT KOLBE Our first week back at school was jam-packed with some incredible learning. And we've got our fingers crossed that we can do it all again when things return to normal on Tuesday! In just a week students have been seen doing:... Exciting experiments in the ChemPhys lab. Running outdoor relay revision races for English. Real-world measurement activities in Maths Lectio Davina-stye prayer under the trees during RE Chess in the playground at Recess You never know where a day at Kolbe will take you, but there are always new ways to learn!

04.01.2022 EARLY CLOSURE INFORMATION - MONDAY AUGUST 3 Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews STUDENTS: Student logins (and possibly devices) are needed for the online interviews. Students are strongly encouraged to be at home during the interview times, taking part in the discussions.... SUPERVISION: Teachers will be using the WLC for interviews. Ideally, all students should depart campus at 1pm. For those students unable to depart campus at 1pm, individual, quiet study will be supervised in specific areas of the WLC, but space will be limited. BUSES: Transperth buses will depart Kolbe at 1pm and will go to the Rockingham Train Station. Private buses will also depart Kolbe at 1pm and follow their usual routes. 04.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Today the College commemorated Remembrance Day by paying tribute to fallen soldiers. Two student representatives attended the Remembrance Day Service in Rockingham where a wreath was laid on behalf of the College. This was followed by a minute's silence on the Avenue marking the day the guns fell silent on the Westen Front. ... Lest we forget.

04.01.2022 SWIMMING CARNIVAL INFORMATION: LINK TO WEBSITE We have an exciting week ahead with the KCC Swimming Carnivals scheduled for Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. The Twilight Carnival (not compulsory) takes place from 2.45pm - 6pm and features the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle events.... The Whole School Carnival - a festival of swimming, dance-offs and novelty events - takes place all day Friday. Students will move from the school campus to the pool for a 9am start. Friday is a compulsory school day. 03.01.2022 YEAR 12s LEARN LIFESAVING SKILLS Despite having finished their formal studies for the year, a group of Year 12 students returned to Kolbe yesterday to complete their SRN Bronze Medallion. This training is recognised as the minimum standard to be a qualified lifesaver and increases employment opportunities with many pools and aquatic centres. While dealing with serious content, it was clear the day also had elements of fun. ... Thank you to the HPE staff for facilitating this training and well done to all students involved!

01.01.2022 CELEBRATING ASH WEDNESDAY TOGETHER The first day of the Lenten season was celebrated today with a lovely Ash Wednesday Liturgy on the Avenue. The students were beautifully reverent as the ashes were sprinkled over them and the Project Compassion focus for 2021 was launched. This year Project Compassion's call to action is "Be More."... Mr Alweyn also challenged the students to "...put yourself second. Put your family, your friends and your teachers first and think about what you can do for them."

01.01.2022 YEAR 11 LEADERSHIP DAY HIGHLIGHTS With such an interrupted year, it was great to see our Year 11s coming together and enjoying each others company at the Year 11 Leadership Day recently. The day included a series of fun team-building and problem-solving challenges. Each activity gave our students a chance to showcase their leadership skills in different contexts, with many students going on to nominate themselves for one of the 21 Year 12 Leadership positions for 2021.
