25.01.2022 A big thank you to Helen Crane and Ellen Valenta from St John Ambulance (Kondinin/Hyden branch) for coming to visit us this week. We learnt all about what to do in an emergency and had the opportunity to see what happens if you have to travel in an ambulance. We practised measuring our blood pressure, heart rates and oxygen levels, and it was very exciting to have the chance to turn the lights and siren on and off! Thank you to all the amazing ambulance workers and volunteers in our community for giving up your time to look after us - we are very grateful. Public education in Western Australia St John WA

25.01.2022 Last week we were lucky enough to have Scitech visit us at school. We learnt all about how things move, and how different forces and designs affect the things around us. We were able to ask questions like; How can we make something move faster? Move further? Move in a wiggly line? What things or... factors could we change to make this happen? Thank you to Mita and Jon from Scitech for coming out and sharing your STEM knowledge and activities with us. A huge thank you to the Kondinin Shire for providing the funding for this incursion - we all loved it and learnt a lot! Public education in Western Australia Kondinin Shire Scitech

24.01.2022 On Monday 7th September our Kondinin PS Eco-Rangers embarked on the massive task of building three large bug hotels in our school gardens. A bug hotel provides shelter, refuge and nesting facilities, and attract many types of insects to the garden. The students designed their bug hotels in groups, and collected the materials that they would need. We were lucky enough to have many of our parents come and lend a hand and expertise (and tools!) on the day. A huge thank you to al...l of our wonderful parents for coming along to help! We hope you had fun! We finished off the day with a sausage sizzle for all our hungry workers. Many thanks to everyone for making such a great contribution, and to Miss Hobson for your passion and drive to create these opportinuties for our school and creating such a fantastic Eco-Rangers program.

16.01.2022 As the year draws to a close, so too does the school year, and before that we held our annual Graduation and Presentation Evening. With the expertise and guidance of our principal Mr Brian Lee the students treated the audience to a wonderful evening of entertainment and celebration of our graduating students and award winners. After a very different and, at times challenging, year, it was great to gather the community together and celebrate the students achievements throughout the year. A final farewell and best wishes to our 2020 graduates and congratulations to our award winners.

15.01.2022 In-term swimming lessons start this week on Monday 3rd February - these will occur every day for two weeks for students in Pre-primary to Year 6. As lessons will take place at 10am every morning, we ask that students wear their bathers to school under their school shirt. Please ensure that students have dry clothes/underwear to change into after the lessons. On Wednesdays, students will also be going to the pool for PE later in the day. If parents can please send two towels along to school on Wednesdays for the next two weeks it would be appreciated. Kindy students will not be attending the pool during the first week in order to allow them to settle into the school routine. Information will be sent out this week regarding swimming for the Kindys in Week 2. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this. Thank you!

12.01.2022 Please support our incredible P&C with this amazing Fathers' Day raffle!

11.01.2022 Our Senior Class students spent some time in our STEM Makerspace, completing investigations about rainbows. They used prisms, different sorts of light and water to work out the best way to create a rainbow. We discussed the way the light separates into its colours, and why it does this. After identifying the colours that make up a rainbow, the students finished off the lesson by creating their own rainbow from art and craft. Public education in Western Australia

09.01.2022 Kondinin Primary School celebrated for the 20th year the National Simultaneous Story time on Wednesday 27th May at 11am, along with many other children across Australia. This year the book was Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford. The students also dressed up as Divas which was a lot of fun! Thank you to our wonderful librarian Mrs Biglin for organising this event for our school and for helping to instill a joy and love of reading in ...our children. Mrs Hobson will be in the class on Mon/Tues, Mrs Meecham on Wed, and Mrs Boxall on Thurs/Fri. Mrs Murray and Mrs Roads will continue to provide support in both rooms. 08.01.2022 This morning Kondinin PS students and staff braved the weather to visit a very special Kondinin citizen. We wanted to say a big happy birthday to Mr Fleay for his 100th birthday the students spent last week preparing a banner, and card and some biscuits for this special day. We drove up to the entrance with lots of balloons and tooting our horn very exciting! We then sang happy birthday to Mr Fleay and presented him with our treats. 06.01.2022 Dear Parents/Carers, Acting on the latest information re novel coronavirus from the Department of Health, the Department of Education is implementing the following for public schools. Students who have been in the Hubei Province of China must be isolated in their home for 14 days after leaving the Hubei Province, other than for seeking individual medical care. They are not able to attend school, school events, day care centres or residential colleges. This also applies to par...ents/carers, contractors, visitors and volunteers on school sites and at school events. Parents/carers should notify their school that the student will be away for the isolation period and confirm the date in which they were last in the Hubei Province of China. Students who have returned from (including travelled through) mainland China (excluding the Hubei Province) or Hong Kong are being asked to stay at home until 14 days after leaving mainland China or Hong Kong. While the risk of the virus spreading is low, this 14 day exclusion is a precaution to ensure the safest possible environment for children. After 14 days, if the student has no symptoms they may attend school. Parents/carers should notify their school that the student will be away for the exclusion period, and confirm the date in which they were last in mainland China or Hong Kong. If a student has been informed by Public Health authorities they are a close contact of a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus, irrespective of whether they have developed symptoms, they cannot attend school, school events, day care centres or residential colleges until their local public health unit informs them that it is safe for them to do so. This also applies to parents/carers, contractors, visitors and volunteers on school sites and at school events. Parents/carers should notify their school, and evidence from the public health authority is required for the student to return to school. The Department of Health website at https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/coronavirus has more information on the virus and a WA Coronavirus Hotline, on 1800 300 243. If your child will be away from school for the reasons outlined above, please contact the school to let us know when they were last in China and to discuss any support for your childs learning while they are absent from school. Yours sincerely, Sarah Baden-Powell (Principal)

01.01.2022 At Kondinin Primary School 2021 has been a busy start to the year! Firstly we would like to welcome all our students back and are extremely pleased to have our new kindergarten students join us. Weeks 2 and 3 saw us brave the change in cooler weather to complete our in-term swimming lessons which culminated in our Swimming Carnival in Hyden on Tuesday. Kondinin came second (a tight 6 points behind o'Connor-Hyden!) which was a great effort by all of our students.
