24.01.2022 Hello Kooka friends! Long time, no speak. We've been very quiet on this page of late, apologies, so it's time to get back into the socials! A few weeks back, Rick and Vonne celebrated 40 YEARS of owning the Kookaburra! This is a really amazing achievement in an industry not known for its longevity, so we - their three kids and all their dedicated staff - were thrilled to celebrate with them. Thank you so much to The Weekly Advertiser for this lovely write-up, and the accompan...ying photos. We think it's a fitting tribute to a hospitality couple who have gone the distance. Congratulations, Rick and Vonne!

21.01.2022 Hello everyone! Long time, no speak, hey?!? We were very happy to hear this morning that from June 1, restaurants, hotels and cafes will be able to re-open with limited guests. Hooray! The Kookaburra is still making a decision on when we'll re-open our doors - this depends on a number of factors that we'll need to assess. We'll keep you posted and rest assured, you'll be the first to hear when we do decide! Stay tuned ...

18.01.2022 Hi everyone. We have some news. After tonight's service, The Kookaburra will be closing its doors again for the foreseeable future. Due to the ongoing situation with the coronavirus pandemic, and the restrictions that are in place as a result, it's really become unviable for us to continue trading at this time. We're so sorry to have to do this, but for the safety of our staff and our wonderful customers, we believe this is the right decision. We hope that you understand.... Rick and Vonne will continue to monitor the situation and we'll keep you updated as to our movements in the coming weeks / months. Stay safe everyone!

18.01.2022 We're hiring! The Kookaburra is looking for a part-time front-of-house superstar who's passionate about customer service. You'll need to be available for 4-5 days per week for an afternoon start with shifts running into evenings, weekends included. 16.01.2022 Just wondering, what have you missed the most - the duck, panko prawns, the kangaroo, fish and chips or the steak with red wine sauce? Welllllll, whatever dish it is, you'll be able to have it again from NEXT THURSDAY WHEN WE RE-OPEN! Yes, that's right, RE-OPEN!!!! The Kookaburra team is really excited to announce that we'll be open for dine-in meals from Thursday 24 September. As you know, we need to operate under strict government restrictions including the number of diners... allowed within the dining room, so bookings will be absolutely essential. Phone us on 03 5356 4222 to avoid disappointment! We also ask our guests to practice social distancing while in the hotel, and wear a face covering when not eating and/or drinking. The Kookaburra Hotel in Halls Gap is seeking a career kitchen hand who loves washing dishes (yes - some people do!!) as well as helping our chefs with the preparation of salads, veggies and desserts. As an ideal applicant, you will be proficient in food safety requirements in a registered commercial kitchen. An apprenticeship will be considered for the right person.... Hours of between 28 and 38 hours per week are on offer, with average shifts from 1pm-10pm. Nights and weekend availability is essential. Immediate start from 28 December. However, due to the new social distancing restrictions the Federal Government has enforced, bookings at our fine establishment are now absolutely essential. We will no longer be taking "walk ins" (those without a booking) until further notice as we will only be able to cater to a certain number of people at a time. Our hearts are incredibly heavy, we're crying for the hospo industry and for all our staff, and for every business and every person impacted by this horrible disease. For the health, safety and well-being of our staff and our customers, the Kookaburra - for the first time in 40 years - will close its doors for an i...ndefinite period of time. When will we back? We can't answer that. When will we ALL be back? Sooner rather than later, we know, because we're all tough as nails.
