24.01.2022 Our Fireflies and Kinder children have been developing their gross motor skills through a sporting experience. After lunch the children watched a video on gymnastics. They were so impressed that they wanted to try out some moves themselves. The children practiced doing the crab, hopping, cartwheels, big jumps and forward rolls/somersaults.... The children all showed excellent patience waiting for their turn and strong gross motor skills as they completed each move. Well done Fireflies and Kinders!!

23.01.2022 Our Fireflies and Kinder's have travelled to China. They've discussed their culture and language. The children are learning to count to ten in Chinese and how to say good morning, hello and goodbye. The children have also made Chinese Dragobs out of paper plates and pom poms. They've also explored the sensory bins with Pandas, bamboo, red flowers and gold coins. ... After exploring their creativity and senses, they practiced their construction skills building Chinese structures and monuments out of blocks. ________________ This travelling journey is part of our inclusive practices where our children learn about other children around the world!

23.01.2022 Our Beetlebugs have been creating car paintings, which has stemmed from the children's interests and parent input. The children were provided with a range of colours and different cars to create their group artwork. They experimented with push and pull concepts, and explored the different markings from the car tracks. ... One of the children proudly exclaimed "I'm painting"!

22.01.2022 Our Kinder's enjoyed celebrating New Years this week. The children and their Educators discussed fireworks and the new numbers for the year - 2021! The children enjoyed watching fireworks on the iPad and were busy naming all the different colours they could see. The children engaged in a science experiment to make fireworks; using water, oil, and food colouring. The children loved seeing the firework effect in the water.... After this, the children further discussed the new numbers and how to write 2021. The children all took turns to practice writing 2021 on the whiteboard. To continue the children wrote 2021 on some paper and used different art materials to trace over their numbers.

22.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers and Butterflies explored their tactile sense through Kinetic Sand. The children helped their Educator Aimee to mix all the ingredients together, then they enjoyed exploring the different texture of the sand. The children chose to make some balls out of the sand and squeeze all the sand together between their hands. They also made some snow out of the sand. ... ___________ This experience teaches children early science concepts, through measuring and mixing ingredients. It also connects them to their tactile sense and expands their sense of wonder through playing with kinetic sand.

21.01.2022 Our Honeybees children have been exploring themselves and their emotions. The children watched their Educators role-play their emotions, such as happiness and sadness. The Educators also showed the children pictures of happy and sad faces. The children then took turns to look in a mirror, and explore their own emotions and facial expressions.... After exploring, the children all created artworks showcasing their interpretation of themselves and their feelings. The children then used their hands and paintbrushes to create these masterpieces. __________ Mirrors are a fantastic way to strengthen a child's self-identity and understanding of themselves, their feelings and how to express their emotions.

19.01.2022 Our Fireflies and Kinders have been speaking a lot about the season Spring, and have been focusing on colours and flowers. The children have learnt about lot of the different names of flowers. Over the course of a few weeks the children have explored different ways to make flowers, such as using paper plates, cotton buds and string. We hope you enjoy our beautiful spring flowers, as much as weve loved creating them.

18.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers have been exploring our KBC Block - Numbers. The children have been practicing their counting skills using sand filled gloves. The children have used number cards and counting posters to help them count the fingers 1 through to 10. This experience exposes children to early literacy concepts and prepares them for further numerical experiences.

18.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers and Butterflies joined together for afternoon tea. After enjoying the delicious food prepared by Gianluca, the children and their Educators decided to make pancakes. The children all took turns to help measure, pour and mix the ingredients together, to form the pancake batter. They then waited patiently and watched Hayley cook the pancakes on the hot stove in the kitchen (a child free zone).... The children then sat around the table with their friends and enjoyed the delicious pancakes!

18.01.2022 Our Honeybees have been exploring their outdoor area and different forms of transport. The children explored different cars and trucks, along with texture of both wet and dry sand. They also enjoyed some water play, washing the cars and trucks clean. ___________________... This experience has stemmed from the children's interests and has allowed the children to explore their senses & materials in different ways.

18.01.2022 To conclude science week our Leafhoppers and Butterflies conducted a science experiment with their Educator Yara. To begin the experiment, Yara helped the children to pour in water and oil. They tried to mix them together but they kept separating. So Yara put in a fizzy tablet, which quickly turned the water into orange and then red. The children all took turns to mix the colour and help it turn red!... The children all enjoyed observing the process of the water changing colour. They even were quick to spot the bubbles!

17.01.2022 Our Butterflies have been learning about all the different colours of the rainbow. They also discussed how and what colours we mix together to make new colours. The children then enjoyed using lots of different materials, of different textures to create a wonderful group artwork. Some of children even used their fingers and hands to paint and draw their designs. Their Educators then got a giant piece of paper to stamp their artwork on for safe keeping!

We have parents asking regularly why their pres...chool aged child isnt able to write yet. This is why! Their hands (and brains) are still developing and are not fully formed. 14.01.2022 Our Fireflies have been learning about the different seasons and types of weather. During their group time, the children and their Teacher Rhona spoke about the rain outside and the season spring. To celebrate spring, the children all created their own spring pictures. ... To begin with, the children traced their own hand and arm to represent the tree's trunk. After this the children practiced their fine motor skills to cut out their tree and paste it onto another piece of paper. The children then used their fingers to decorate their tree with paint, to represent the leaves. _________ What is your interpretation of a tree and the season spring?

14.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers have been practicing their science skills and ability to experiment. The children used a range of materials and took turns to mix them all together to create kinetic sand. After mixing everything together, the children discovered that it wasn't working like traditional kinetic sand.... So together with their Educators, they discussed that sometimes experiments don't always work out but it's fun to keep trying! The children still had loads of fun getting messy and playing with the sand mixture. _______ This experience not only teaches children early science skills, along with measurement and mathmatics, but it also teaches children resilience and persistance to keep trying when things don't work out as planned.

14.01.2022 Our Honeybees have had a busy day exploring their surrounds, looking at both their indoor and outdoor environments with a new perspective. They explored the high chairs and how they pull apart, they looked into the sleep room to see their friends taking a nap, they manipulated bikes and prams to make them move, they rolled balls to their friends, they used their fine motor skills to complete bead frames, and that was just the beginning! ______________... Allowing children time to explore their surrounds, allows them to form a deeper connection to the environment around them and it helps children to form their sense of identity.

14.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers have been experimenting again! This time they looked at a chemical reaction. The children first discussed the two ingredients with their Educators - baking soda and vinegar. They then took turns to put the baking soda on a tray and squeeze vinegar through droppers onto the powder. To make things more visually exciting, their Educators helped them to add food colouring to the powder.... The children all enjoyed this experiment, actively partipated and took turns. They also shared their opinions about the bubbles they could see! ______ This is a super fun experiment which can be followed along at home! Just make sure you're supervising your children and actively taking part in the experiment. The experiment is best suited for children over 2 years.

14.01.2022 Our little Honeybee Max decided to pick a story to read with his Educational Leader Olivia. He picked his favourite book about animals. To begin with Olivia read the story to Max, pointing out all the animals and counting the different number of things in the story (eg: two horns or 6 flowers). Once the story was finished, Max then proceeded to read the entire story back, naming all the animals correctly!! Max was particularly excited about the rhino and the giraffe.... ______________ At Kool Kidz Brighton we place an emphasis on early literacy, starting in our nursery space. We value the power of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. We also encourage and support our families to do the same at home - as we know, learning begins at home!

Then they went through magazines and selected pictures of all the things they liked, including strawberries, lemons and cake! Some children also chose to use other art materials such as pom poms, feathers and bubble wrap. After finishing their portraits, they stood back to admire themselves! The children then dicussed their favourite things and what colours they used with their Educator Velisia.

12.01.2022 Our Fireflies and Kindergarten children had lots of fun exploring science week! They finished off the week by creating and testing catapults. The children all took turns to collect materials around the yard to make their catapults with and a box to act as their target. The children all had three attempts at getting the ball into the box. They had to work out how to get the ball from A to B. They tested the strength and distance needed to get the ball into the box. ... After all their testing, their Teachers spoke to them about scientific words such as observing, describing and experimenting. The children were thrilled to learn the big science words behind their discoveries. _________________ This experience is fantastic at exposing children to complex science patterns, such as force and distance. It also exposes children to scientific concepts such as hypothesising and experimenting. Alongside science, this experience expands childrens imaginations and creativity, along with strengthing their abilities to take turns and share.

12.01.2022 Our Beetlebugs children have been exploring their numeracy skills through a creative experience, involving number stampers. The children all chose different numbers and practiced stamping these on their paper. Their Educators then helped the children to identify the number on their page, along with helping them to count to 10! _____________... Experiences like this provide children with a stress-free learning environment, allowing the children to be fully immersed in their creativity whilst learning important numerical concepts.

12.01.2022 To conclude our science week our Honeybees and Beetlebugs explored the rain cycle. The children all took turns to help pour the clouds on top of the jar and then used their fine motor skills to squeeze the rain through the clouds. The children were all facinated by the rain dripping through the clouds!... ______________ To try this at home, you'll need: - A jar or container - Shaving foam - Water mixed with food dye (we reccomend blue, as most children associate this with water) - Dropper or medicine syringe Steps: 1. Fill the container 3/4 of the way with water. 2. Fill the remainding 1/4 of the container with shaving foam. 3. Fill your dropper with the food dyed water, and gently squeeze this through the shaving foam. 4. Watch the rain fall from the clouds! This experience is suited for children 1 year and over, and it requires supervision at all times.

12.01.2022 Our Beetlebugs have been exploring their creativity through a free pasting experience. The children were initially given the choice of which colour paper they would like. To further their decision making skills, their Educators provided them with a range of materials from them to choose from. The children then freely chose what materials they wanted to use and where they wanted to place them on their piece of paper. The end result... Beautifully unique masterpieces!... __________________________ Experiences like this teach children the importance of making choices and provide them with a platform for self-expression.

11.01.2022 Our Fireflies have been interested in tea parties, shown through their role playing within the room. Their Teacher Rhona decided to help the children extend their interest and have a classroom tea party. The children started by making decorations and cake stands, followed by working together to make a batch of delicious cupcakes. ... After this the children gathered all their supplies and set up their tea party area. The children had loads of fun using their imagination and having a very special tea party together. __________________ This experience allows the children to feel trust in knowing their voice is being heard, respected and valued. It also extends the children's imagination and ability to engage in role play experiences.

11.01.2022 Whilst in family grouping our children enagaged in an outdoor painting experience, set up by their Educator Yara. The children used the animals on the wall and the bright colours as inspiration for their own creations. The paper was placed at different heights to cater for all children and to challenge gross motor skills, so that they could reach high to paint their artwork.

11.01.2022 Our Kinder's have been enjoying the lovely weather outside. They explored their imagination and creativity through drawing with the coloured chalk. Together with their Educator they decided to create a game of hop scotch. The children enjoyed taking turns to complete the entire game of hop scotch! Whilst completing each game of hop scotch, utilising their gross motor skills; the children demonstrated their numeracy skills through counting and naming each shape as they jumped on it!

They spent some time painting some beautiful artworks, inspired by the animals and colours on the sensory wall. They also explored different balls, and practiced throwing and rolling the balls into the soccer goal. The children also enjoyed exploring the different sizes and textures of each ball. ... ____________ Free play experiences allow children to develop their autonomy and sense of agency, through self-expression and exploration.

09.01.2022 Our Fireflies have been interested in role play experiences, in particular cooking pancakes! To extend upon their interest of making pancakes in the home corner, their Teacher Rhona set up a sensory role play experience. Rhona set up two sensory tray tubs with flour and utensils to make pancakes! The children explored the materials and used their imagination to add fruit, sugar and chocolate to their mixture. ________________... This experience builds on the children's interests and allows their voice to be heard. It also provides them with a platform for sensorial exploration and creative expression, through imagination.

They placed different pieces of coloured cellophane onto a laminated sheet which was then laminated by th...eir Educators and placed outside on the glass windows. The children have loved looking at all the bright colours as the sun shines through.

07.01.2022 Our Kindergarten children have been exploring literacy concepts, such as how to write their names correctly. The children have learnt that their name starts with a capital letter and the other letters that follow are called lowercase letters. The children have all practiced writing lowercase letters and their names using a combination of both letter types. Alongside this, the children have used sand trays to practice their writing and have participated in a group time where they've had to identify the difference between an upper and a lower case letter.

06.01.2022 Our Leafhoppers and Butterflies engaged in a fun car wash! They started this experience by discussing with their Educator Aimee the different tubs. She spoke about how one tub was filled with mud to make the cars dirty and the other was filled with soapy water to make the cars clean again. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience, playing with the mud and water. They used their tactile and thermic sense to explore the mud and cold water. They also made bubbles and experimented with different ways to wash their cars; such as, scooping the clean water into their hands and cups to pour over the cars.

04.01.2022 Our Honeybees continued exploring Australia day and their senses. Their Educators pre-froze ice blocks in the shapes of kangaroos, koalas and the country map outline. The children then explored their creativity, using these coloured blocks of ice to create masterpieces. ___________... This experience not only looks at Australian culture but it allows children to explore both their tactile and thermic senses, through creative experiences.

04.01.2022 Our Beetlebugs children have continued their exploration of colours and expanded the their thermic sense. The Educators pre-froze coloured ice in the kitchen freezer for the children to make their designs. The children were then given a plain piece of paper and lots of coloured ice blocks to choose from. Some children were a little hesitant to touch the very cold ice but others got to creating their masterpiece straight away. ... The children and their Educators discussed all the different colours they had and the new colours that were forming as the ice mixed together.

01.01.2022 Our Honeybees and Beetlebugs decided to get messy by attemping to make a new slime receipe for puffy slime! Although our slime wasn't perfect, the children had so much fun exploring the sensory feel of the sticky texture. Many children loved it so much, that they decided to paint their own bodies!! Their Educators decided to add trucks to the experience for the children to explore pushing something through the sticky slimy mixture. ... This experience teaches children about science and connects them to their senses.
