25.01.2022 Good Morning everyone! To all our patients attending the clinic, please remember: 1. The fancy and very visible hand sanitiser dispensers at the front are there to use, please do so on entry.... 2. Our waiting room is socially distanced, but if full, we have other spots you can comfortably sit, our receptionists will guide you so please have a chat with them 3. If you have cold and flu like symptoms, we still like you, we just don't want to see you at the moment. Please contact us about rescheduling your appointment, or telehealth options if that works for you. 4. If you have just returned from South Australia we also like you, but would prefer to see you in a few weeks when you have done some chill time at home. Our receptionists will contact you with other options. Thanks for your understanding everybody. We have done a lot of hard work up until now. Let's not drop the ball.

24.01.2022 We are closing early at 1pm today to allow for some team training. Back again as normal Saturday 8-12am. Thank you for your patience.

23.01.2022 Spring is a fantastic time to take up a new activity and cycling is certainly a popular option. It's great exercise, an awesome way to explore the local area and of course socialize at the local coffee shops! However, a little too much enthusiasm early on can lead to a few issues, particularly when it comes to knees. Want to know how you can avoid common knee injuries? Check out this great article from RACV and enjoy your riding!... https://www.racv.com.au//he/avoid-cyclists-knee-pain.html.

22.01.2022 Spikey Balls...a colourful, fun tool for relieving muscle tension (and occasional accidental dog toy!). Spikey Balls work by stimulating the myofascia, the connective tissue that runs throughout your entire body. If you use this tool regularly you can experience the following benefits:... Increased Blood Flow: Sustained pressure on a trigger point or tight muscle can increase blood flow to the muscles and connective tissue, helping you to recover quicker from workouts and heal faster from injuries. Improved Mobility: Studies have shown that rolling out your muscles can help increase their mobility. Direct pressure through the use of either a trigger point ball or foam roller can compliment a structured mobility and strength program to increase your range of movement. This can be particularly useful if you have been performing intense exercise, or maintaining prolonged postures throughout the day. Reduced Muscle Soreness: An increase in blood circulation means that muscles are able to receive the maximum amount of nutrients allowing for optimal recovery. Proper use of massage balls can allow you to speed up recovery, increase performance and reduce pain, allowing you to live a more active life. We stock these amazing little tools in a variety of colours at the practice for $15 so why not pop in and grab one?! Don't forget to talk to your physio for advice specific to your needs and how you can use the ball the most effectively.

21.01.2022 Looking forward to a massage after the race, thanks to Koombana Physiotherapy

21.01.2022 This Tuesday we will have a special guest at our training night! We know you will have been focusing on training your legs to get you through the run, ...however, there is probably another set of muscles you may not have considered...your pelvic floor muscles! Accidental leakage whilst exercising is more common than people think, and not spoken about nearly enough! While stress incontinence is very common it is highly treatable, and it can particularly affect women during pregnancy and menopause and after childbirth or surgery. Yvette Holloway from Koombana Physiotherapy has a special interest in pelvic health and continence. She will be attending the training for the WFR this Tuesday the 8th of September to discuss all things pelvic floor and give some helpful pelvic health tips. During the session, Yvette will also address what to look for in supportive exercise gear, from bras, to shorts and sneakers. Then to round off the session, there will be a quick review of good stretching technique to help ensure your muscles and tendons are kept healthy during training. The information will be general in nature, but if you would like to ask Yvette any questions, she will be available after the session. Yvette will arrive at 6pm as we finish our session to make sure you hang around for this special opportunity!! See you there #vestrumwomensfunrun2020 #vestrum #bunburyrunnersclub #koombanaphysiotherapy

18.01.2022 *Meet our Physios* Say Hi to the newest member of our team Megan! Megan grew up on the west coast of Canada, so it only seemed right that she moved to the west coast of Australia. Graduating from Curtin University with her degree in physiotherapy. In those four years, she embraced the lifestyle of Western Australia: swimming, mountain biking and hiking in the pristine environment of the west coast. After completing a portion of the Munda Biddi cycling track, she passed throug...h a town called Bunbury. She didn’t know at the time but had an inkling that this might be a great place to start her career. Having completed a solo crossing of the Rottnest Channel Swim, and several races at Busselton, Bunbury was a natural fit. Megan’s interests in physiotherapy lie with the application of manual therapy, exercise prescription, Pilates and dry needling as a means to improve the health and fitness of her clients. In addition, her sporting background enables her to have insight in the intricacies of sport. These include; swimming, running, mountain biking and equestrian sports. Megan looks forward to working with you towards your health and fitness goals. 17.01.2022 This cold snap has us all feeling a bit chilly, making our colourful Heat Packs all the more appealing! But they have many more benefits than simply warming us up, Heat packs are a fantastic tool to use before, after and in-between physio appointments. They can help to:... * Stimulate sensory receptors to block the pain signals to the brain - helping to relieve pain and enhance the recovery process * Increase blood flow, increasing the level of nutrients delivered to the area and therefore healing rate * Reduce resting muscle tension and ease out knots * Sooth nerve endings And of course, they FEEL amazing :-) Our Heat Packs are filled with Lupins which retain the heat for longer and come in a selection of pretty designs. Simply pop in your microwave for 2 minutes (or for a cool pack option store in your freezer in a plastic bag/container). Just $18 - pop in and pick up yours today!

12.01.2022 Meet our Physios - Dave Verhoog Born and raised in a small farming town in rural Ontario, Canada, Dave gained extensive experience working on farms growing up and understands the strain that can be placed on the body when doing physical labour. Dave started his career as a Physio Assistant, working with clients in a small physiotherapy practice in Canada before pursuing his career as a Physiotherapist in Australia. Graduating in 2017 with a Master’s in Physiotherapy from Curt...in University, Dave moved to the beautiful SW and began work at Bunbury Regional Hospital gaining experience in sub-acute neurological, geriatric and post-surgical rehabilitation. Returning to Canada for a year, Dave worked at a hospital near the Rocky Mountains and spent most of his free time hiking the many mountains dodging Grizzly Bears in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Luckily for us, Dave returned to the SW this year with the hopes of settling here permanently. He has kept his sense of adventure alive by taking up surfing in the sharky waters of SW WA! 12.01.2022 Bridges - you either love them or hate them, but you can't argue with their effectiveness! They focus on Spinal articulation - the sequential movement of each vertebrae from the pelvis through the spinal bodies up to the head and back down to the pelvis, requiring deep vertebral muscle activation and control. In other words, they work to strengthen and protect your spine to improve and maintain mobility, pretty important for everything we do!... To improve your overall spinal mobility chat to your physio about a tailored program suitable for your specific needs. **Not all exercises are suitable for all people. Please consult your physio before attempting any of the exercises demonstrated**

10.01.2022 Do you use a Foam Roller? There are many reasons to incorporate Foam Rolling into your self-care practice. Benefits can include:... * Reduced pain and muscle soreness * Increased blood flow and oxygen to the muscle tissues, helping to speed up the natural healing process. * Improved flexibility - combined with stretching and rehabilitation. * Stress reduction - releasing stress related tight spots can help you to feel much more relaxed * Increased range of motion Our Top Tips for using your foam roller: * Go easy at the start - Foam rolling can be a little bit uncomfortable particularly over tender or tight areas - so go lightly if you find an area particularly painful. * Use your body weight to adjust the pressure to find the best level for you. *Start with just 10 seconds, working your way up to 30-60 seconds per area If you would like to know more or to get specific advice for your needs, speak to your physio at your next appointment. Keen to get started? We have a range of Foam Rollers available for purchase at the practice - please contact reception or pop in to buy yours!
