21.01.2022 With no further local cases of COVID-19 overnight, and strong testing numbers, I can now confirm the next steps for Western Australia. At midnight tonight the l...ockdown will end as planned. However, a range of interim restrictions will remain in place as part of a stepped-down approach. We need to be cautious as we come out of lockdown. The virus could still be out there, and that’s why this approach is safe and the best way forward. We can’t go back to where we were like last week, just yet. This approach will give us confidence to begin to get back to normal while we wait for further testing and the incubation period of the virus to come to an end. The interim restrictions will be in place for the next four days - specifically from 12.01am Tuesday 27 April, through to 12.01am on Saturday 1 May. As we receive more test results, we will review the situation in a few days, and then detail the plan for Saturday and onwards. These will be the new arrangements for Perth and Peel: From tomorrow, people in the Perth and Peel regions will be free to leave their homes. Masks will remain mandatory, as they are now, both indoors and outdoors, and on public transport. As they are now, masks are not required for primary school children or younger, for vigorous outdoor exercise and for people exempt, including those with certain disabilities. The ‘stay at home’ order will be revoked - people can return to work unless they can work from home or they are in a vulnerable category. All schools will resume, but all staff and students at secondary schools will be required to wear a mask. Primary school students will not be required to wear a masks. Teaching staff at both primary and secondary schools are permitted to remove their mask while teaching. TAFE can open, just like schools. Universities are open but only for online learning. From tomorrow, there will be a 20-person limit in all homes, and private indoor and outdoor gatherings. All public venues including hospitality venues, entertainments venues, and retail outlets can re-open except for the Casino, nightclubs, and indoor fitness venues. The 4 square metre capacity rule will be in place for this period only, with a limit of 20 patrons, not including staff. As in the past, the workplace, schools and public transport are exempt from the 4 square metre rule. For hospitality venues, like pubs, cafes and restaurants, it will be seated service only for the next four days. For the next four days, weddings and funerals can apply for an exemption to have 100 people. As they have during the lockdown period. Community sport and training can proceed with players and officials, but no spectators. Visits to hospital, aged care and disability care facilities are restricted to compassionate grounds only. Elective surgeries will be limited to Category 1 and urgent Category 2 procedures. In terms of travel, from midnight tonight, people can travel out of the Perth and Peel regions, to other parts of WA. However, anyone who has been in Perth or Peel since 17 April must wear a mask in public places, as per the requirements above. I’d encourage people to visit www.wa.gov.au to find more information. Our team will be uploading information to the site as quickly as possible, so people should check in regularly to receive the latest information I understand there will be a lot of questions and there will be some confusion, and I know these conditions will be tough for many businesses. But it’s important we remain cautious and ease off restrictions, in line with health advice, so we can get back to normal as soon as possible. Coming out of lockdown is no easy task. It’s about balancing things out and coming to a point that is in the best interests of the whole community, based on the latest health advice. Over the next few days, as we get more people tested, we will be able to then outline the next plan, beyond Friday. It’s been fantastic to see so many Western Australians do the right thing over this challenging weekend but it’s crucial that we keep it up. Keep getting tested, using the SafeWA app, practice good hygiene and COVID-safe habits, and keep looking out for one another. Thank you WA.

20.01.2022 The Koongamia Women's team lost today in the finals. It was a great game and unfortunately for Koonga girls the Tigers pulled away from us. Good luck in the GF tigers. Koonga girls you all played great today it was anyone's game. I would also like to thank the people who helped out throughout the spring comp and the same girls who rocked up every week even when we were short of players and played at their best. It was a good way to end the Spring comp for us maybe we'll give it another go next year

Please complete the Registration form online, read and sign the Code of Conduct The National Indigenous Youth Basketball Program Australia (NIYBPA) organised by Indigenous Basketball Australia (IBA) is the first of its kind in Australian sporting history, providing a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the 13-14 age group and commences in 2021. NIYBA reflects the Jr. NBA Philosophy: The Jr. NBA Philosophy is to share the game of basketball with youth across the world by teaching skills, values and wellness in a positive and fun environment. The Jr. NBA’s holistic approach is intended to strengthen the culture of youth basketball, teach life lessons, and empower youth to live a full and healthy life. The Jr. NBA believes this philosophy leads to developing complete and well-rounded basketball players and individuals. Indigenous Basketball Australia (IBA) IBA will deliver programs at the grassroots level for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people so they have a better chance to advance to the elite level and importantly succeed in life. These programs aim to develop fundamental basketball knowledge, skills and competition, leading to an opportunity for selection to a national tournament and beyond. These programs are underpinned by Health and Culture Sessions for players, focusing on key topics of culture, education, employment, health, leadership, safety and wellbeing and role models and delivered in an environment that is safe and free of discrimination, criticism and judgement. The involvement of community, elders, service organisations, volunteers and role models will be a valuable part of the program. Indigenous Community Basketball League (ICBL) The ICBL is the first level of competition under the NIYBPA for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth aged 13 & 14, helping to support their journey from the community level, to the elite level and beyond. In 2021, IBA will coordinate the delivery of ICBL through Regional Co-ordinators in 8 targeted regions across Australia: Torres Strait (Thursday Island), North Queensland (Cairns), South Queensland (Logan), New South Wales (Dubbo), Victoria (Melbourne), South Australia (Adelaide), Western Australia (Perth) and Northern Territory (Darwin). The ICBL competition will be held in Term 1 of 2021, with matches played on Sunday afternoons throughout February and March. Each region will have 4 boys and 4 girls teams competing. Planning and organising for the ICBL commenced in early September 2020 in each of the regions by Regional Co-ordinators. National Indigenous Basketball Tournament (NIBT) Players competing in the ICBL will have an opportunity to be selected to represent their region at the NIBT. Regional representative teams will include one (1) boys team and (1) girls team. Selection of players will be decided through a national standard selection criteria and process. NIBT is planned for the Gold Coast, Queensland during the school holiday break, April 2021.
