25.01.2022 Central Victoria friends... please attend this screening to support Red Box Wildlife Shelter, Tamara Kenneally Photography and our beautiful kangaroos who are being blasted every night with horrendous consequences. Thank you
14.01.2022 Please pick up string, twine and fishing line when you see it laying around to prevent this from happening. Thank you Nigel's Animal Rescue xo
14.01.2022 A common myth used to justify the mass slaughter of kangaroos is that they eat all the grass meant for farmed animals. Here’s how we know that’s not true: *... Kangaroos do not thrive on cleared land, as this is not their preferred habitat, and introduced grasses are not their preferred food * Kangaroos will rarely overgraze in any particular area, and leave enough grass cover and habitat for other plants and animals * Kangaroos have both upper and lower teeth, allowing them to bite of the tips of grass, rather than rip grass by the roots like cows do * Kangaroo feeding habits ensure that grass doesn’t grow too high and dry, but that there is always some grass cover left. It’s just pure logic to realise that the grazing habits of kangaroos have become perfectly adapted to the Australian landscape over the years and that kangaroos are NOT direct competitors with grazing farmed animals. Yet this myth pervades in regional and rural areas - and is used to justify the slaughter of hundreds of kangaroos. There are so many threats facing kangaroos in NSW and beyond, including government-sanctioned slaughter based on a myth of kangaroo overpopulation. That’s why we need your help. Please join the Aussie Summer Kangaroo Count to help us prove to the government just what’s going on across NSW and beyond. Every response we get strengthens our case which we will put to the NSW Government: we need a proper count of kangaroos, and we need a moratorium on all kangaroo killing - NOW. Please help us by filling in the survey here: https://docs.google.com//1C4KoD4xBYpq6-vkMfoS-SoanMf_SU9pP Dead or alive, we want to know how many kangaroos you see in your area or out on the road this summer. Anyone, anywhere in Australia can participate. Survey closes February 28, 2021. Want to do more to help? Share the form with your friends and family, and sign the AJP NSW’s petition calling on a moratorium of all kangaroo killing in NSW: https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/.../kangaroo-protection/ Read more about kangaroo myths and facts here: https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/kangaroosandenvironment/
13.01.2022 Far out, this is too real and hits close to home. Please don't ignore it because it's painful to see, let the pain and hurt drive you to take action for our dear kangaroos, the ancestors of this land
13.01.2022 12 months on and what has happened? Andy Meddick MP
13.01.2022 Every single night they are chased. Every single night they run for their lives. Every single night they try and save their families, but every single night in this country kangaroos are hunted without mercy.
12.01.2022 Look at the numbers... I just can't fathom it.
11.01.2022 KANGAROO WEBINAR Numbers - They are not in ‘plague proportions’ - A lot of ‘fake science’ is being used to justify the industry.... The commercial industry - Wealthy corporations are profiting from the commercial slaughter. Farmers don’t. In some ways, farmers are used as a red herring - America is a big supporter of the industry. Some American orgs are currently targeting Nike to get it to stop buying kangaroo products. It’s hoped that targeting one company will lead to change in the others that buy kangaroo products Killing - There is no oversight of the killing it is done at night, in the middle of nowhere. Lack of hygiene - The killing conditions are very unhygienic - Shooters will pee and poo in the bush, their hands touching their genitals and possibly their faeces, then handle kangaroos’ bodies - After their heads are cut off, their bodies are hung on the back of utes, exposed to insects, at air temperature, which can be high in summer - A slaughterhouse of farmed animals would never be allowed to operate like this Cruelty - many kangaroos are not killed with a single head shot - Injured kangaroos who live near a killing area, next to a property owned by a kangaroo advocate, often come onto his property - The shooters are lowly paid and it’s often their second job. It’s not their primary source of income. - They are not highly skilled shooters - Shooters prefer to kill the large males first, as they’re larger, so it costs less per bullet - (Each kangaroo mob has one dominant male. Killing him greatly upsets the mob’s dynamics) - Once they’ve killed all the males, they kill the females (despite claims that they don’t) - At-foot joeys who flee when their Mum is killed die a slow death from predation - Joeys who are in the pouch are bashed on bullbars to kill them (perfectly legal called ‘blunt force trauma’, or stomped on by the shooter’s kids The meat - It often has high levels of E.coli and Salmonella - Russia has at times rejected the meat because of this Oh, and one minor detail: Australia was their home millions of years before humans came here. Please help 1. Watch Kangaroo the Movie. https://kangaroothemovie.com/ 2. Support the ‘Kangaroos are not shoes’ campaign. https://kangaroosarenotshoes.org/ 3. Sign the petition: https://secure.everyaction.com/bwqH-37J6kqHg4Tvb3wrZA2 4. Don’t buy kangaroo products. Don’t buy so-called ‘pet meat’ as it’s almost always kangaroo. (I know that farmed animals are raised and killed in heinous ways too, but killing kangaroos is also affecting the survival of species and ecosystems).
04.01.2022 This #EarthDay, I want to bring your attention to the fact that that the World Health Organization, World Organization for Animal Health, and United Nations Env...ironment Programme have urged governments around the world to urgently suspend the trade in live caught wild mammals in order to reduce the risk of zoonotic disease like Covid-19. In Australia, we continue to kill kangaroos. Every. Single. Night. It's violent and it's dirty, with close to no oversight. There's even a mystery illness of an unknown cause that's been sweeping mobs of kangaroos since the 1990s. Are we really going to wait until it's too late to find out if it's zoonotic? Are we really going to keep killing kangaroos until there's none left? If you think this needs to end, please sign the petition: https://actionnetwork.org//tell-scott-morrison-to-stop-kil
