23.01.2022 Summer comp - Winners 2017

23.01.2022 Week 4 was down on numbers due to many players having other commitments. Section 1 had 7 players, so we decided to play an 8-player draw, which meant that some games had only 3 players, i.e. 2 players up one end of the court and 1 player at the other end. To make it a bit fairer, the single player was allowed 2 serves. As result, most of the games were closely fought and Maurice managed to win his singles. We all extend our wishes to Josh and Julia whose son Stanley was fortunate to receive a life-changing liver transplant recently. We hope all goes well for the family.

22.01.2022 17 players turned up for the 2nd week of our mini comp. Collectively, 38 games were played, which included 4 novelty games where players from both sections were paired up via a random draw. But there was a twist. All Section 1 players were asked to play with their non-preferred hand. This brought the pack closer together, ability-wise, which added some extra humour to the night. At interval we paused for a scrumptious supper of sandwiches, cinnamon bun and bananas of the loll...y kind. Visitors are welcome to attend these nights to try your hand at badminton, which is one of the easiest sports to take up. We have rackets you can borrow for the night. Cost for the night is only $8 per person. Phone Ian on 0427 553 755 for further information.

21.01.2022 Summer comp 2017

19.01.2022 Our first night of the KBA 2019 Mini Summer Round Robin Comp this week worked out well. 8 players per section was the ideal number for this format and by chance 8 players turned out for both sections. Everyone seemed happy with the new format where each player plays with a different partner every game. After supper, Section 1 had two novelty games where the players were asked to play with their non-preferred hand. This certainly brought the players back to level ground and br...iefly gave them a feel of what its like to take up badminton for the first time. Next week Ill introduce another novelty game which is sure to get some laughs. If you have any friends who might be interested in badminton, why not bring them along for a hit? Cost is $8 per person. Discount for families. Supper is served during the night. If any non-member visiting our Facebook page would like to try their hand at badminton, feel free to come along to Korumburra and join in. Contact Ian on 0427 553 755 for further details.

15.01.2022 Summer comp - Most Improved Award

15.01.2022 Our sixth and final week came down to the wire. Section 1 had only 4 players turn up, Josh, Ian, Maurice and Graham. Unfortunately, Graham had injured himself during the week and relegated himself to umpiring. This meant having to play a rotating format of 2 at one end of the court and 1 at the other end, giving Josh, on 13 points, a clear advantage and in a good position to win all 4 of his games. Paul on 14 points did not attend and therefore remained on 14 points. At the o...ther end of the stadium, Section 2 ran with 5 players. Krystal on 13 points and Anthony with the overall lead on 15 points, were challenging Josh for the top prize. Anthony needed to win 3 of his 4 games, thats if Josh were to win all 4 of his games. Anthony (partnering with Aiden) in game 3, was looking down and out when the pair tied the score right at the end, then won on a playoff. Losing his last game, Anthony finished on 17 points, tying with Josh who won all 4 of his games. Commiserations to Krystal who was sick one week but turned up anyway to support the group. Had she been able to play that week, the outcome might have been different, as she finished on 16 points. The games immediately after supper had a twist to them. The players were asked to start their games on 21 and work backwards to zero. These games were not easy to umpire, as instilled habits are very hard to break. Dont forget our presentation night next Wednesday at the Austral Hotel in Korumburra. Be there by 6:45pm at the latest for dinner. A tip for dinner. Unless you usually have a very large meal, consider asking for a smaller meal, the portion of which you would normally have at home and at the same time save yourself quite a few dollars. http://korumburrabadminton.weebly.com

14.01.2022 Week 3 had another good turnout for Section 1 with 8 players competing but only 4 turned up in Section 2. Nevertheless everyone had a good time. Krystal came along as usual, even though she was on death row with a virus of some sort. Cant hold a keen girl down. After supper we had a couple of novelty games where teams were picked at random to try their hand at ballminton. All was going well until the styrene balls on both courts exploded in spectacular fashion. Well, its back to the drawing board - but it was fun while it lasted. See the videos below. P.S. Krystal, were you lying sideways when you were filming, lol?

12.01.2022 This could be a good way to keep fit for badminton.

09.01.2022 Week 5 had a full complement of players - 8 per section. This meant that no-one sat out and a pair of games in Sections 1 and 2 were played almost continuously throughout the night. After supper we tried Ballminton once again but this time we used smaller, more durable foam balls with great success, unlike the previous effort where larger balls were lightened out far too much to reduce weight and as a consequent they exploded halfway through the games. Doh!!! We have one we...ek to go and it has become a tight race to the finish. Paul, after getting off to a slow start, has moved through the field with rapid pace and has almost caught up to Anthony who has been in the lead for several weeks. Its going to a close finish with several players in the hunt for our top mystery prize. Following the final week of competition, we will be having our break-up at the Austral Hotel in Korumburra.
