23.01.2022 ReconciliACTION-A term I borrowed from my fellow colleague Mandy Downing when speaking recently of Koya Aboriginal Corporation KKnH’s working lens. Here is proo...f of a wonderful friendship created at Koya. Bethany is a young Aboriginal basketball and netball player, manager, assistant coach and Peer Ambassador who is a shining beacon of compassion, empathy and leadership for other young people. She works hand in hand with Christy, a wonderful Mum, sports manager, event captain, mentor and friend to all. It’s been an honour to share and witness a lifelong friendship. #leadershipinaction #reconciliation See more

19.01.2022 Robyn Dixon from Rainbows WA presented SILVER LININGS package which is an Indigenous community crisis response program for young people and communities. Robyn with Jane Miller from Connecting4Kids gave community members & service providers a sneak peek of the package and design in the first of many consultations, this was a wonderful opportunity for feedback and they look forward to engaging our local Elders for their valuable guidance. There are also great opportunities here for our young mob (future facilitators) who may be interested in learning to deliver the program to kids in 2021.

05.01.2022 Kaya everyone, we’d thought we share some pics and stories from a KKnH Camp Horizon. The camp was held in the tail end of January 2021. We held 2 separate camps for our girls and boys from our Koya program that ran for 3 days and 2 nights. This camp was extremely special has we had our Peer Ambassadors (Youth Leaders) help lead staff lead the camp and activities. We ventured out to Roelands Village ex Roelands Mission to unpack and setup for our camp. Once we were settled, w...e learnt about the stories and history of the place from both Les Wallam and Koya’s co-founder Allan Kickett. The first activity our kids have done was to learn how to surf at Binningup Beach in Bunbury. We had amazing teachers Dave, Kate, and Jai teach from Bunbury Surf School teach us the ropes on how to surf and body board. We had a few wipeouts but that had not deterred our kids from trying and by the end of it a couple of kids were able to stand up on the board to surf. The second activity required our kids to get kitted up at Forest Adventures South West with climbing equipment to climb obstacle courses and zipline through the magnificent tuart trees located in Busselton. Some highlights include more than 500 metres of flying foxes, Tarzan ropes, 13-metre base jump BMX on a wire just to name few! The kids were tested but learnt a lot of courage and facing the unknown with a smile. The third activity was to have a chilled swim at the beach in Busseltown after 3 hours of climbing obstacle course and ziplining. Once everyone rested and who were up for it went on for a walk on the jetty. It was a lovely walk that stretches for 1.8km and in total took 40-50mins to walk to the end and back. We did try our hand line fishing and caught some small fishes, blue swimmer crabs and was attracting cuttle fish or squid (couldn’t really tell). Overall, everyone that attended had a great time! It was a pleasure for us staff to watch our Peer Ambassadors step up and lead the way. From the bottom of our hearts, we like to thank the Koya Staff, Peer Ambassadors, Roelands Village, Bunbury Surf School & Amazing Zip line. Peace out and we look forward to seeing everyone next week when the restrictions are lifted

02.01.2022 KKnH Wingz To Fly - celebrating Boo Life at KKnH brings many rewards as we share in the journey of the young people who enter our program. We bear witness to the birth of a new constellation... a star... a young person whom shines not just because of their successes but mostly because of their hard work, grit, determination even when it is tiring and challenging. They are the constant for others and a role model of KKnH values. They never give up and never give in! Meet 10 y...ear old Kalysha Boo- the newest constellation to shine. Not only is she a basketball talent (under 10 runner up MVP) athletic wiz (year 5 champion girl), netballer (since 7 years of age), she has been performing solo dances on stage since the age of 5, recently performed at the West coast nationals in Perth and was selected to represent WA in the National Dance Championship in Queensland.
