09.01.2022 Upcoming Superannuation Changes If you are considering putting any large sums of money into your super fund in the next few months or so, then please get in touch with our office as soon as possible. Non-Concessional Limits... This current financial year if you are under 65, or meet the Work Test, you can contribute up to $180,000 to your super fund non-concessionally. Non-concessionally means you dont claim a tax deduction. From July 1 2017, you will only be able to contribute $100,000 non-concessionally each financial year. If you are under 65, you can bring forward up to 3 years of non-concessional contributions, though conditions may apply. This allows you to put a larger lump sum in at one time. For example, where you receive an inheritance or have proceeds from a property sale. You may be able to put in as much as $540,000 in one sum this financial year, but from 1st July 2017, the maximum available to be contributed at one time will be $300,000. Concessional Limits From 1 July 2017, the concessional limit for all ages is dropping to $25,000 per person. This limit includes super guarantee payments from your employer. For example, if you are earning $80,000 then the 9.5% super guarantee would be $7,600. This would leave you a limit of just $17,400 to either salary sacrifice, or make personal deductible contributions. If you go over the $25,000 threshold the highest bracket of tax will be applied, so it is important to be aware of these limits. If you are salary sacrificing then its important to check how much you are getting from your employer in super guarantee payments and make sure that amount plus what you salary sacrifice doesnt exceed $25,000.
