21.01.2022 If you havent seen the preview for In My Blood It Runs, check it out in this link about the documentary! This is why it is so important we protect country and culture for the benefit of Aboriginal people and future generations https://www.abc.net.au//in-my-blood-it-runs-docum/11981484

19.01.2022 The Ngarjarli Trail has opened at the Murujuga National park, which is home to the largest collection of ancient rock art in the world. The new boardwalk is hoped to make it more accessible for visitors to learn about the cultural importance of the site.

18.01.2022 Traditional Owners must have the final say, and Aboriginal disempowerment must not be a cornerstone of the new legislation. The decision not to prosecute Kimberley Granite Holdings for the damage caused to a sacred site is outrageous, as well as concerning for the future of Aboriginal heritage laws in WA.

18.01.2022 437 Aboriginal flags were installed at Riflebutts Reserve in Prevelly to represent each Indigenous person who had died in custody since 1991. The organisers aimed to create a peaceful and effective way to visualise the devastating numbers of Aboriginal deaths in custody.

17.01.2022 After four years of debate, no consensus about raising the age of criminal responsibility was reached at a national level, instead the issue has been handed back to state governments. The WA Department of Justice has not yet reached a decision, but say the issue is still on the table.

17.01.2022 The Aboriginal flag will be absent during the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round this Saturday in Darwin due to a copyright ban. Indigenous sporting icons have voiced their outrage over the copyright issues, including former player Michael Long who stated that flag belongs to all Aboriginal people not just to any individual.

17.01.2022 What really needs to happen is to lift the status of Aboriginal heritage to where it at least has some equality with iron ore. A divide is forming about the way to fix Aboriginal heritage protection in Western Australia, with mining companies saying they can be trusted to negotiate with traditional overs over heritage concerns even though that process failed to protect Juukan Gorge.

17.01.2022 Wow! Great to see this campaign take off and have their goal surpassed within just one month!

16.01.2022 A feel good Friday read, Congratulations to the Kimberleys, Shaleeka Ozies and Rishaye Shaw! What an amazing opportunity

16.01.2022 With the state elections coming up in 12 months its time to start thinking about what the government has done for you or which party can help you the most! Help us out by taking our quick 3 minute survey Cheers! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HKXB3TB

15.01.2022 On #WorldHeritageDay, take a moment to acknowledge the continued damage and destruction of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Sites around the country. Just last week... the government made the outrageous decision not to prosecute Kimberley Granite Holdings for damage caused to a sacred site in the East Kimberley, the Garnkiny (moon dreaming) site, pictured above. The legal destruction of the 46,000 year old Juukan Gorge in WA’s Pilbara region by mining giant Rio Tinto last year shone a light on weak and ineffective heritage protection acts across the country. Still, each week we hear of another site being damaged or destroyed around the country. There needs to be greater recognition of Aboriginal culture through all of Australia. KLC CEO, Brian Wilkinson says there needs to be change. We keep hearing the words ‘sorry’ and ’never again’ from the government and the resource sector - yet the destruction of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage continues. This is a national crisis. It’s time to take action so the rights of Traditional Owners are protected. Traditional Owners must have the final say in matters that affect the preservation of their cultural heritage.

15.01.2022 More than 60 per cent of stakeholders are not in support of the draft Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Bill 2020 (WA). The new Bill still positions Aboriginal cultural heritage, heritage that Traditional Owners have serious responsibilities to protect, as being somehow owned by the State of Western Australia and something that a Minister of the State has the power to make decisions over, said the PKKP Aboriginal Corporation.

14.01.2022 Lest We Forget.

13.01.2022 As the adage goes: "when you are in a hole stop digging". Amended for Rio Tinto it would read "when you are in a cave stop blasting".

12.01.2022 Exciting times! We cant wait to see the changes these young ALLY leaders bring to the communities.

11.01.2022 The State continues to diminish the value of Native Title determinations by not allowing Aboriginal landowners to use their lands for economic benefit. We are stuck in the horrible twilight of neglect and dependency on a system that doesnt seem to care. It is time for McGowan Government to step up on land tenure and Native Title. Australians are very sympathetic to Aboriginal people and want to see the gulf of disadvantage closed. The door is open for the McGowan Government not to squander this opportunity - Aboriginal people are expecting leadership, not more bureaucracy and obfuscation. This article by Wayne Bergmann explores the past and the opportunities available. To read more, click here:https://nit.com.au/opinion-time-for-mcgowan-government-to-/

She always wants others to feel special and is there to help everyone, the office wont be the same without you Racheal. 07.01.2022 The WA government is considering using the Fitzroy River for irrigation plans, but traditional owners living throughout the Fitzroy River valley have issued a warning: do this wrong, and you could repeat the disasters of the Murray-Darling basin.

06.01.2022 GOOMIG FARMLAND TRANSFER TO TRADITIONAL OWNERS It was a proud moment for Traditional Owners in Kununurra yesterday, after taking ownership of 665 hectares of ...farmland in Ord Stage Two. After waiting many years, representatives from the State Government and MG Corporation, signed off on the transfer of two land parcels in what's known as the Goomig farmlands. The land transfer comes as part of a native title settlement under the Ord Final Agreement in 2005. Agriculture Minister Alannah MacTiernan said this landmark moment would provide MG Corporation with security of tenure and the means to create a sustainable agricultural business into the future. It is an investment in the future capacity of the MG Corporation to explore avenues to build solid business and employment opportunities that will bring wide-ranging benefits to future generations and also add value to their existing Kimberley pastoral operations," she said. The MG Corporation is a critical stakeholder in the development of the Ord and has already demonstrated a willingness to work with other partners to progress opportunities such as cotton production. Today’s land transfer is part of helping to advance the next phase of agricultural expansion in the Ord, through increase in scale of production to support value add opportunities such as a cotton gin. It's a huge moment for MG Corporation, who have recently completed their first cotton harvest in partnership with Cubbie Agriculture on Goomig Lot 16. The cotton crop is the result of a JV between MG Corporation and cotton giant Cubbie after an MOU was signed in late 2019. MG Corp executive chair Lawford Benning said he was encouraged by what the success of the crop meant for the organisation’s commercial agriculture plans. Establishing a viable cotton business on MG land is a key part of our pathways to realising our economic potential, he said. This first crop could be the first step in establishing a substantial agricultural portfolio to benefit MG people. MG Corporation is also one of the founding members of East Kimberley organisations pursuing a cotton processing facility in Kununurra. The organisation has also entered into a Water and Environmental Management Infrastructure Agreement with Kimberley Agricultural Investment, who farm the balance of Goomig, to ensure the environmental obligations are appropriately managed into the future. Cubbie is preparing to plant next year’s Goomig 16 cotton crop in February. Photos by Courtney Fowler

The lack of informed consent by providing only one option to the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura people is unacceptable.
