17.01.2022 Restoration methods spotlight: Salt attack and rising damp are two separate but interrelated processes. Both must be understood if damage is to be minimised and if corrective measures are to be successful. At K&S Restorations, we believe in carrying out a full inspection of the building to determine the source of the damp issues and rectify it prior to making a decision on whether further action is required in the form of chemical injection or the installation of a new damp proof course (DPC). https://tinyurl.com/y43yw2rc

13.01.2022 At K&S Restorations, we feel privileged to have been part of the team that restored the iconic Fremantle Town Hall back to its former glory. Opened in 1887, it is one of Western Australia’s most prestigious examples of classical 19th century architecture. The restoration included the removal of paint and large scale render repairs along with crack stitching and the repair of decorative mouldings.

11.01.2022 Restoration of the Perth Modern School K&S Restorations was one the main contractors on this project which included large scale paint removal and render repairs to the decorative bands around the windows and doorways. 09.01.2022 Did you know the Great Wall of China in over 21000km long! https://www.historyextra.com//great-wall-china-facts-hist/

09.01.2022 A beautiful property and a great job to showcase our masonry skills, our client wanted ornate hand carved doorways and intricate cornicing on an extension to their property. The work was in keeping with the age and style of the original section of the building and carved using local donnybrook sandstone from block. We then installed the stone creating a beautiful entrance to the building using traditional stonemasonry techniques. https://www.ksrestorations.com.au/project/peppermint-grove/

09.01.2022 Step back in to the 1890s in the Goldfields region and Coolgardie was once the third-biggest town in WA. The Coolgardie Museum was later established to capture the rich history of the town. Our recent conservation and restoration works on the building included damp and salt remediation, replacing deteriorated stone around the exterior, replacing affected internal lime plaster, crack stitching, removal of large amounts of cement mortar and repointing. https://www.ksrestorations.com.au/p/coolgardie-court-house/

09.01.2022 Opened in 1895, this grand old building has been a permanent fixture in the Western Australian Gold Fields since the biggest gold rush in Australian history. https://www.ksrestorations.com.au/p/coolgardie-post-office/

07.01.2022 The Exchange hotel is one of the most iconic buildings from the gold rush era, first built in the early 1890s it was then replaced with the current building in 1900. It has two storeys made up of Local Brick, Timber and decretive iron balustrading. The building has been listed on the State Heritage Register since 1997. K&S Restorations carried out extensive conservation works in the cellar including a poultice system to remove damaging salts from the stone walls and the application of a specific lime render to stabilise and draw the salts from the walls in the future which will dramatically slow the deterioration of the soft stone.

04.01.2022 Restoration methods spotlight: Tuckpointing & Repointing are integral to the longevity of any historically significant masonry structure. Pointing is the process of cutting out fretting mortar joints or in some cases joints which have been repointed over the years with the wrong materials i.e. cement based mortar and then repointing with a suitable lime based mortar.
