The P&C is a welcoming group, and has roles that can suit how involved you want to be, your skills and the time you have to invest Interested in what a role with the P&C has to offer, please send a message

23.01.2022 COVID-19 has been particularly hard on younger Canberrans. From unemployment and financial stress, to education uncertainty and social isolation, 2020 has broug...ht about unique challenges for young people. Twenty-two-year-old Will (pictured with Anete, Anglicares Youth Health Team Leader) lost his job due to COVID-19 closures, and has struggled with anxiety and depression. Having never been unemployed, his mental health deteriorated, and he ended up in hospital. Ive never been unemployed until this year. When I was relying on Centrelink it really hit me how much my life had changed. I wanted to work. I knew I was going to end up on the streets if I didnt get help. Will is just one of many whove been doing it tough, and his story is all too familiar. Thanks to the dedicated Anglicare team at The Junction Youth Health Service, a free primary health care and support service for youth, Will was able to receive the support he needed to manage his mental health and stay motivated. I started coming to the Junction every week. I saw the doctors and the nurses for medical appointments, and the social workers helped me too. The youth workers even helped me to write my résumé. The team was always there to help without judgement. Will has since had his job reinstated and the Junction team were able to provide him with practical assistance and support throughout this time. To learn more about The Junction Youth Health Service and how its supporting our young people, visit www.anglicare.com.au/thejunction If youre struggling, or know someone who is, support is available. 17.01.2022 A bit late getting this to you. But here it is the week 6 newsletter http://www.kss.act.edu.au//Newsletter_Week_6_Term_2_2020.p

17.01.2022 Late reminder. Today is house day! Feel free to show your true colours by wearing your house colours To celebrate house day this term, students will be participating in a Resilience Run, in place of the usual Walk-A-Thon. This change has been made due to restrictions brought around events during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, we will be running an obstacle course at school which will involve being sprayed with a coloured powder at the end. All measures have been tak...en to ensure your childs safety at this event. The volunteers will do their best to throw the powder at the torso; however, wind, and other factors may cause the powder to spray onto the face. You may wish for your child to bring their own eye protection, such as sunglasses or goggles. The colour powder used in the event is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly, consisting of 98% corn-starch and 2% food colouring. The product is considered safe for use; however, should you wish to view the ingredient listings, and toxicology risk assessment, of the powder, please see the staff in the front office. Any child not wanting to partake in the colour component of this event does not have to and will be able to avoid it with ease. Information on the Event: Will be taking place on Friday the 18 of September between 1:30 and 3:00pm. Students need to bring in their own additional shirt or clothes that they are happy to be sprayed with colour. If students are catching the bus home, they will need to bring a change of clothes if they have participated in the colour component. Students can opt out of the colour component of the run at any time.

15.01.2022 ACT residents will have a brief window of opportunity over the next few days to leave Victoria to travel to the ACT by road. The NSW Government is allowing ACT ...residents with an Entry Authorisation Certificate issued by the ACT Chief Health Officer to cross the border at Wodonga between 9am and 11.30am each day from 1317 August inclusive. They must arrive in Hall by no later than 3pm on the same day. After 17 August, no other ACT residents will be allowed through the border by road and the ACT Government will not issue any more exemptions to drive to the ACT while the NSW/VIC border remains closed. After 17 August, anyone else who has applied for an exemption will need to reapply and request to travel by air. Wed like to remind Canberrans that the health advice regarding Victoria remains in place. If you have been to Victoria within the past 14 days, you must notify ACT Health before returning to the ACT. You must also quarantine for 14 days at your own expense. 09.01.2022 Check your email for an email from Paul, our principal. In summary On the advice of the Chief Health Officer, the ACT Government has paused its easing of restrictions and as a result we will remain at Step 2.2 of the COVID-19 Easing of Restrictions Roadmap for Schools until health advice changes.... Restrictions in ACT public schools will remain as they were during the last two weeks of Term 2: Students across all years will continue with on-campus learning. Students vulnerable to COVID-19 will continue to be supported with remote learning. Schools will continue to limit the number of adults on school grounds parents and carers should avoid entering the school building where possible. Where scheduled events are planned (such as one on one parent-teacher interviews and small assemblies) parents can attend the school, however physical distancing and hygiene requirements must always be adhered to by adults. Records will be kept of visitors entering the school.

08.01.2022 Although there are no active cases of COVID-19 in the ACT, it is important we remain vigilant about health and hygiene. If your child is sick, they must not co...me to school. If your child becomes unwell at school, you will be asked to collect them. For more information on schooling arrangements for Term 3, visit our website: http://ow.ly/qeJD50B246X

04.01.2022 Hi all. The new link for the focus groups https://forms.gle/frWiC8sUT69895jDA

03.01.2022 To the Kingsford Smith School Community, I want to clear up some confusion around an incident that occurred last week at the school. A small group of Year 5 students who have been studying protests in class recently, decided to stage a protest while their teacher was away. The issue they were protesting was around camp. Unfortunately they had not consulted staff and so they had made assumptions about camp that were not correct. The protest itself was held during second break... and consisted of students marching around the playground with signs, chanting slogans. Others joined in and when they went to the oval some other students became rough with the group that had formed. Teachers dispersed the group when they saw this and students returned to class at the end of break. Senior leadership acted to determine the extent of any harm. We visited the classes who had been potentially affected by this event, checking in with students. The class teachers scheduled calming activities and students who were upset were encouraged to seek help. For their part, the original protest organisers were very remorseful and sorry that things had escalated beyond their control. Those parents were informed. This week I have been following up with students who had intimidated the protest group and others. If you or your children are suffering any stress or psychological effects from the incident, as is usual, please contact the school as we have supports to help. Paul Branson
