18.01.2022 Q&As (PART 1): just to address the most common questions raised recently by our center parents. Q: Why is it so important to record start and finish times for each booklet? A: Kumon Standard Completion Time is the time range in which students should complete their daily worksheet study as they progress through their Kumon levels. This is one of the KEY indicators Kumon uses to gain more insight into the student’s learning. Therefore, when studying in centre or at home, it is ...so important that students always write the start and finish time on every worksheet set. Q: Why do we need to repeat the worksheets? A: In Kumon, students can repeat worksheets when needed to decrease the number of errors, reduce the completion time, review an earlier topic or consolidate a new area of learning before moving on.

Love your perseverance and resilience. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act but a habit" by Aristotle (Greek philosopher) .

15.01.2022 The future is uncertain, though with the right tools, students can continue to make strong progress in their learning. We have dedicated this issue of Potential magazine to explain how Kumon can support students to keep making progress in their learning, despite uncertain times. We invite you to visit our website and read the digital edition of Potential magazine: https://au.kumonglobal.com/new-edition-of-potential-out-now/

15.01.2022 Kumon supports students to become more independent and, in the case of young children, accelerates the growth of independent learning so it is developed much earlier than it would in... other circumstances. How do we identify students who are independent learners? I believe such students have the following characteristics: Proactive - Independent learners have a ‘give it a try’ attitude, even towards doing something that is new to them. Behind this positive attitude is confidence derived from an accumulation of their experience with trial and error. Persevering - Independent learners have perseverance to finish what they started. Focusing on the intended outcome, they follow through the task consistently until completion. Confident - A common characteristic of independent learners is they are confident in their own abilities. They believe they can overcome the hurdles thrown their way.

14.01.2022 This Sunday (13th Sep) is Roald Dahl Day. Did you know Kumon has six books by Roald Dahl on our Recommended Reading List? We invite you to explore Kumon’s supplementary book lists, designed to spark a love of reading in all children: www.readtogether.com.au & www.kumon-english-rrl.com

14.01.2022 At Kumon, students develop a mindset that no problem is too difficult to attempt. They feel empowered to have a go and give the worksheet a try. This mindset will support students to persist with their learning through times of uncertainty.

10.01.2022 Sandhya, a future student at the University of Oxford and former Kumon student, says studying Kumon Maths from a young age played an essential role in helping her to be ready for an unpredictable future. Sandhya has been accepted into Oxford to study an undergraduate degree in philosophy, politics and economics. She hopes to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue her studies, should conditions allow for the relaxation of international travel restrictions.... Despite global uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sandhya remains cautiously optimistic. Sandhya asserts she is well prepared and that her former Kumon Maths studies played a key role in building her readiness for her future. I began Kumon while I was in kindergarten and continued to study the programme until around 2016, when I was in Year 9, Sandhya says. The little bit of study required each day by Kumon helped me to develop discipline, independence, confidence and resilience. I was also encouraged in Kumon to continually set goals and to push my limits. Sandhya says Kumon instilled a mindset where she always strives for her best. This mindset gave her the confidence to apply for admission into her chosen degree at Oxford, she says. Kumon also helped her to develop the needed life skills to attain her goals. Kumon showed me the value of persistence and repetition from a young age, Sandhya says. I think the Kumon worksheets are actually structured to encourage this development. The worksheets allow you to gradually build up enough knowledge before you move onto the set of problems, she continues. The examples in the worksheets also give you enough information to self-learn; they give you the tools to work out the problems on your own.

10.01.2022 When our students encounter a new problem, concept or challenge, they have a go by themselves first. They study the examples, draw on previous learning and have the confidence to try. They try, then think some more, and try again so they can answer the question with confidence. They come to expect the challenge of a difficult problem and the joy of discovering something new for themselves. They learn no problem is ever too difficult to attempt to solve.

10.01.2022 Q&As (PART 3): just to address the most common questions raised recently by our center parents. Q: How can Kumon fit in a busy family schedule? A: The best way is to create a routine. Looking at your family’s weekly schedule and decide when ‘Kumon time’ will be. Allocate 30 minutes per day per subject. While unexpected events arise, you should aim to be consistent. A quiet Kumon study space is also essential for students to progress while at home.... Q: Are there any benefits of doing Kumon with siblings? A: The benefits are endless: 1) you can keep each other accountable; 2) older siblings make the best role models; 3) a little friendly competition might be just what you need to reach the next level; 4) there’s always someone there for you during the rough patches (long division, anyone?)

08.01.2022 Kumon students progress step by step, towards the goal of advanced high school mathematics. They come to expect the challenge of a difficult problem and the joy of discovering something new. They learn no problem is ever too difficult to attempt.

07.01.2022 We offer a huge thank you to all mums as we celebrate Mother’s Day! Thank you for all the support and love you have provided to your children.

07.01.2022 The benefits of doing Kumon with your siblings are endless: You can keep each other accountable. Older siblings make for the best role models. A little friendly competition might be just what you need to reach the next level.... There's always someone there for you during the rough patches. (long division, anyone?) And of course, you can compare thinking faces! What's your favourite part about doing Kumon with your siblings?

06.01.2022 A wonderful example of home recording sheet that's been shared by a parent today. From the record of the 1st week's home study, we can see the student's accuracy has improved through the 2nd repetition whilst the efficiency is to further develop. The parent has been briefed accordingly and will also closely monitor the student's concentration & etc. Home recording is such a great tool for us to analyse the study progress and make swift and reasonable adjustments during our daily practice.

06.01.2022 Doing Kumon during homeschooling this morning... Isn't she amazing?! We are so proud of you, missy!

05.01.2022 By overcoming challenges day after day children will experience success time and again on the road to attaining their goals. These big piles of worksheets represent the amazing hard work in the last six months by an advanced student from our center - she's so proud of herself. Well, who isn't, ?! It is necessary to be patient and persistent if you want to succeed in study or any other field. More importantly, repetitive daily exercise is needed. Continuation is power in the Kumon Method. Genuine ability will be developed through the cycle of 'patience' and 'joy'.

05.01.2022 Have you ever been curious to know what Kumon Standard Completion Time is? This is the time range in which students should complete their daily worksheet study as they progress through their Kumon levels. This time range also includes time taken for corrections, ensuring 100% for every worksheet. This is one of the key indicators Kumon Instructors use to gain more insight into your child’s learning. Therefore, when studying in centre or at home, it is so important that your child always writes the start and finish time on every worksheet set.

05.01.2022 Q&As (PART 2): just to address the most common questions raised recently by our center parents. Q: What happens when Kumon student encounters a new problem? A: When our students encounter a new problem, concept or challenge, they should have a go by themselves first. They study the examples, draw on previous learning and have the confidence to try. They try, then think some more, and try again so they can answer the question with confidence. They come to expect the challenge ...of a difficult problem and the joy of discovering something new for themselves. Gradually, students at Kumon develop a mindset that no problem is ever too difficult to attempt and this mindset will support students to persist with their learning lifelong. Q: Why should my child study both English and Maths? A: Maths and English equip children with the skills they need in their day-to-day lives. Mathematics and English have proven to be benecial for each other. A 2014 study examining the relationship between English prociency and mathematics scores indicated that English prociency predicted English language learners’ mathematics scores. Journal of Educational Research and Practice, 2014 Volume 4, Issue 1 Walden University Many of the students who cannot calculate the answers [in maths] do not understand the meaning of the questions. They cannot gure out the answers because their reading comprehension is poor. Toru Kumon, Kumon’s late founder

04.01.2022 When Kumon students encounter a new problem, concept or challenge, they have a go by themselves first. They study the examples, draw on previous learning and give it a try. They try and fail until they are finally able to do it. They come to expect the challenge of a difficult problem and the joy of discovering something new for themselves. They learn no problem is ever too difficult to attempt to solve.
