22.01.2022 Hi friends, September 5th's KFC night with Luke Plumb is FULLY BOOKED. If you haven't booked for the show through TryBooking, COVID restrictions mean we won't be able to let you in unless there are no-shows (and we won't know that until Luke starts). At present our audience number remains capped at 50. We look forward to seeing you there or at a future event, and thanks for supporting live folk music. Stay well, David & Tony.

21.01.2022 Kunanyi Folk Club and COVID-19 It is with much regret that we have to announce that we are cancelling our next event on Saturday 4 April and suspending other events at the club until further notice. This is to protect the safety of our constituents and the wider community in the current health emergency created by the Coronavirus. Although the level of risk from events such as ours may not be that high, this decision is in line with official advice and is consistent with the ...wider policy decision taken by the Folk Federation of Tasmania (and also in consultation with our hosts at the Fern Tree Tavern), as well as that by the Franklin Folk Club. We are aware that this is particularly disappointing for the musicians we have booked for forthcoming events and whose livelihoods are under threat from widespread cancellations of gigs and festivals across Tasmania and mainland Australia, as well as for floor spot performers already expecting to play in April. However, our first priority must be public health and safety. We will be monitoring any change in official health advice with a view to resuming as soon as is prudently possible, and we will keep you informed on any developments. Current booked acts and floor spots performers will be a priority when we start again and we will be negotiating with them about future dates. In the meantime we hope you will support any initiatives that may arise to keep the music going, such as online livestreaming of gigs and music/dance workshops. It is also important in a time of social isolation and distancing that we find ways to maintain community and solidarity, including by offering help and support to people in our communities and neighbourhoods whose circumstances make it hard for them to manage the isolation needed to protect their health. In safety and solidarity Tony, David and Meaghan

16.01.2022 Folk Club Re-opening in August? Dear friends of the Kunanyi Folk Club, You may be pleased to hear that in view of the relatively good situation that Tasmania is now in with COVID-19 and the further relaxation of restrictions relating to social gatherings coming up, we are considering resuming folk club events at the Fern Tree Tavern in some form from Saturday 1 August onwards.... In the first instance these will involve limited numbers of participants (50 max initially), fully seated and with pre-booked ticketing, and will only operate where we can meet public health requirements, including spacing, sanitation, minimal contact on entry and collection of audience names and contact details in case of contact tracing being needed. At least for the time being we will also have to restrict the choice of booked acts to those already in Tasmania and not include audience floorspots. Inevitably, at least in the medium term, the experience will be somewhat different from what we have been used to. Before we go ahead with this we would like to ask you whether you are likely to return to the Club under these circumstances, recognising that a good proportion of our regular participants are in the older age groups that are particularly vulnerable if they were to contract the virus. To do this we have prepared a short survey questionnaire which you can complete online. It’s anonymous and you don’t need to include your name or any identifying details, but completing it would help us a lot in our deliberations about how to proceed with the Club from now. It will only take about 3 minutes. Click https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QFYDTY9 for the survey. Please complete it as soon as possible. Thank you and we hope to see you at the Club in the near future. If you are not already on the FolkTas email list, please consider joining it at http://www.folktas.org. Regards Tony Eardley, David Beniuk and Meaghan Bamber for the KFC The Kunanyi Folk Club is a project of the Folk Federation of Tasmania Inc.

14.01.2022 Scam alert Hi folk club friends, We had a great re-opening night at the folk club yesterday, in spite of a few logistical problems with using the larger restaurant area of the Tavern for the first time.... However, a scammer was operating on the Facebook page, offering tickets to people who were unable to obtain them because we were sold out. It appears that one person was taken in by this offer and transferred money above the actual maximum price for a non-existent ticket. It’s unfortunate that this is happening, but as we all know there are scammers operating everywhere on the internet. There are a number of things that people can do to avoid being scammed in these circumstances. 1. Click on the person’s profile and photo and see whether they seem likely to be a genuine member of the local folk community. It’s often fairly obvious (as it was in this case) that they are not. 2. Send us an email on [email protected] to check whether the person offering tickets has actually bought them through our Trybooking site and is in a position to sell them on. 3. Do not agree to pay over the maximum price of $15 for any re-sell tickets. Even if the offer is genuine, this is ticket-touting, which we do not support. If any problems of this kind continue we may have to alter the settings on our FB page to exclude public interchange between visitors to the page. Communicating with us via the email address given remains private. We look forward to seeing many of you next month. Details for booking will be posted soon. Tony & David
