17.01.2022 We wanted to share some good news stories: TRACQS staff used their swear jar money to buy food and hygiene items to stock the Street Pantry at KNC - very genero...us - Thanks Sali and team A local small shop owner donated some money and goods from her shop. The 'pay it forward' donation has been paid to the Kuranda Foodworks to help people who have lost work and are still waiting for a Centrelink payment - pls phone 40938933 for a referral Mon-Fri 9-5 while the credit lasts (this is not government money but straight from the local community). If you are in a position to donate towards this 'pay it forward' model, please contact us or Kuranda Foodworks - thanks for the kindness and generosity of those who can afford it Cairns Computer Support have been really great at supporting our Centre for the past 4 years and helped us this week with a seamless transition to a phone and work from home set up. The advice given to install proactive programs, software and equipment in the past 2 years has really put us on the front foot to manage this challenging situation. This has all been done on reduced charging as a way to support our not for profit organisation and the Kuranda community - Thanks Tom and team Nathan Sutherland has been providing a much needed service delivering food and meals - so great to see people helping people Linda Snart and her husband have been volunteering to deliver grocery orders to those who cannot/should not leave their homes If there are other good news stories please post them as they are a great way demonstrate the strengths and kindnesses that are happening

09.01.2022 A groundswell Kuranda Community Essentials project has been launched for those in the District who have lost or have had reduced hours from their jobs due to the Coronavirus and are still waiting for income support. If this has affected you, please contact the Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre on 40938933 Mon-Fri 9-5 or email [email protected] or [email protected] A needs assessment and referral process is available to provide essential food and medicine as... well as referral and assistance to access other available supports/information. This is not the existing emergency relief programs currently available. These services are already in place, however may not be adequate at this time due to the large number of people suddenly without an income. The project is locally funded through donations from community members directly, a GoFundMe campaign called The Kuranda Community Fund, The Kuranda Paper, St Saviours Anglican Church, Kuranda Pharmacy, Mulungu Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre, the Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre and supported by the Kuranda Foodworks. The funds donated will be distributed fairly and transparently in modest provisions on an as needs basis, generally through a $50 package or electronic voucher to the Kuranda Foodworks or a specific cost amount at the Kuranda Pharmacy for essential medication. Please be patient with the staff at the Kuranda Neighbourhood Centre as we work through referrals. Provision of this essentials program will depend on funds continuing to come in via local donations. Please note, this is not from Government funding as yet and so we are relying on continuing local support. Sincere gratitude and thanks to anyone who is giving what they can at this time for those who are suffering through loss of income. This is a time for understanding, compassion and kindness. We ask that anyone wishing to donate, do so via the GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/1ymtur8yk0"
