18.01.2022 On the second Sunday in October each year, we pause to remember the emergency service volunteers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while working to protect others in the community. The Emergency Service Volunteer Memorial holds the names of volunteers from the NSW Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Volunteer Rescue Association, Marine Rescue and the predecessor organisations. This year's will again be an important one as the names of eight NSW RFS members, includ...ing four volunteers who died during last fire season, are added to the memorial. The service begins at 11am Sunday. You can watch the memorial online at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and/volunteer-memorial-2020 #NSWRFS

12.01.2022 From 1 December 2020, the Australian Warning System and its icons will be introduced on the NSW RFS website and Fires Near Me NSW app. The NSW Bushfire Inquiry and the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements recommended the implementation of a national system to bring consistency to the way information and warnings are shown. The Australian Warning System includes a nationally-consistent three level warning framework across five hazards: bush fire, flood..., cyclone, extreme heat and severe weather. It is important to familiarise yourself with the new system and with apps like Fires Near Me so you can be ready in the event of an incident near your home.
