25.01.2022 I'm about to start scheduling visits to collect the stories about the Macquarie Marshes, starting next month and into August. Having received a small amount of funding from the Regional Arts Fund NSW Quicks grant to cover my travels and some time, I'll be doing a couple of road trips in July and August. If you or someone you know has a great story to tell about life in the Macquarie Marshes - either from the past or something more contemporary, I'm keen to hear from you. These stories will be recorded as audio for use in a major art project called Pulse of the Wetland, but they'll also become part of an archive about the area. You can read more about that work at www.ecopulse.art.blog.

23.01.2022 Ive been thinking about this all week, and in discussion with friends and clients. I truly think its time to slow down and communicate more meaningfully. Ill be going through my inboxes and doing a lot of unsubscribing over coming weeks. Think about what 90 days of more time on our hands might mean to your CRM database...

22.01.2022 This was one of the exciting projects I worked on earlier this year with Greater Sydney Local Land Services. There are some fabulous resources in the program for direct to market producers, so well worth checking out if you need a little marketing help.

21.01.2022 This space has been a bit quiet recently for good reason - Im over at Goldsmiths Studio working around the clock on preparations for a major art exhibition next weekend at Western Plains Cultural Centre Existing clients and a couple of projects for 2020 are being quietly dealt with behind the scenes but Ive got my artist hat firmly on my head for now. Interested? Check out the updates on my other page - the show opens 2pm Sat 14 December at WPCC Dubbo

21.01.2022 From dry, dusty gummies to super dooper wet ones! What a great weekend of rain. Our dam is slowly filling but more importantly, the rain is soaking in. The impact of this on our regional communities will be immense. @ Dubbo NSW 2830

21.01.2022 As International Womens Day comes to an end for another year, go to sleep dreaming of a future where all women are safe from those closest to them, where woman with a vision for common good have the opportunity to lead, and women world-wide may live and prosper in peace and good health. In the meantime, may IWD be simply a reminder of how far weve come and how far we have to go. What is today has come on the back of those who went before us. Sweet dreams and celebrate good women every day. #IWD2020

20.01.2022 The pleasure of washing the dust from my gumboots today was indescribable. I spent an hour outside in the gentle , returning with wet hair and mud on my boots. It cleared the too. Heres to more soul cleansing days ahead.

20.01.2022 Wanting a better sound for your teleconferencing? Use an external mic - there are some reasonable podcast mics available. To set up a portable, micro sound booth youll need acoustic foam (its not expensive), a 60L plastic tub & something to adhere the panels to the plastic. Ive used super sticky velcro dots. Given I like a window view over winter, it also solves the glare issue. Then, ensure your webcam is at eye height - Im sick of looking up everyones noses... And tidy up your background. Now youre ready for the months ahead. UPDATE: Earbuds with an inline mic will also give you better quality sound than your laptops inbuilt mic. Just make sure it doesnt rustle around on your clothes too much.

20.01.2022 With so many wheels in motion over this past week, its been hard to get a clear picture of where the business sector is heading, but it does look grim. In adversity lies opportunity. I truly believe that. This past week, Ive been wrapping up things for a couple of clients who will lie low for now, and for others its an opportunity to take more time to plan projects well without the pressure of other things. In between, Im planning a new online arts event called ART e-Part...ies to launch next month. My comms business has and will take a significant hit over coming months - something I expected weeks ago. Lets just help each other through this, and if you find an opportunity to support someones business or project, do it. Were going to need a community around us to get through this. Im always happy to Skype, Zoom, Facetime or chat via Messenger if needed. Just about everything I do is online anyway, so Im really in my element with something to work on. Yours in remoteness! 20.01.2022 When Im not designing marketing communications strategies, or implementing them, Im working as a digital media and installation artist/producer. Over the past three years that part of my life at Goldsmiths Studio has taken my work overseas. But one of the most interesting creative events Ive been part of over the years is in THIS region, at Kandos. Cementa had been running as a biennale since 2013 and I had the pleasure of having a sound work in it this past weekend (21-24 Nov). Its my second time in the event and I havent missed attending one yet. I never fail to meet new people, catch-up with old friends and have great conversations at the same time as supporting the small, local economies of Kandos and Rylstone. Win: win.

19.01.2022 Join me in Eugowra on 6 March for a good yarn at the MBC hosted event Women.Agri.Business. As a storyteller who has shared others stories professionally now for more than 30 years including my time as an ABC Rural Reporter to international creative projects, I want to share my own with you. Ill tell you why its so important that rural women share their stories in many different formats and via many different channels. Joining me on the day are three inspiring women with great stories to tell and who are out there doing it - Fiona Aveyard, Lisa McFadyen & Kim Storey. They will most likely tell you that making yourself the hero your own story doesnt necessarily come easily, but its essential. Still not sure? Come for a laugh with friends and a day out. Ill see you there.

19.01.2022 With a reduced social life these past weeks, I've had time to look through the archives. Here's one from 1994, when I was an ABC Rural Reporter and the Rural Woman of the Year Award was just kicking off. 26 years later, I'm still in contact with many of the amazing people I came to know during this time.

17.01.2022 What is it really like to work from home? In an environment of self-isolation and social distancing this can be the answer, but its not utopia. A few home truths.

17.01.2022 I've been working on a little project for The CORRIDOR Project (Cowra) over the past couple of weeks, that's had me in front of the camera again. I had to shake out a few cobwebs when it came to delivering my message without stuff ups. It all comes down to scripting, run-throughs and breathing (breathing allows your brain to catch up to your mouth). Ask any TV news journo how many takes it takes! Sheesh. All to be revealed soon.

16.01.2022 Im a storyteller. Regardless of whether Im telling your story in words, photos, video, or encouraging someone else to do that for you, its still, at heart, storytelling. Im also a creative with an art practice of 20 years Goldsmiths Studio. I tell stories through my art too, using microphones, 360 VR cameras, drones & more. Ive just started researching a new story about drought recovery & as part of this research I spent a night in the Macquarie Marshes over the wee...kend. I watched the sun set through the river gums, a gazillion stars lit up the ceiling of my campsite, & then I saw the sunrise over the reedbeds the next morning. Youll have to check in on the studio page for more updates, but this stuff feeds what I do for my clients. And theyre a pretty special lot who love a good story too. @ Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia See more

16.01.2022 This is one of the best CSAs Ive heard in a long time. There are already too many awful podcasts out there. Please dont become part of the excruciating soundwaves. Jokes aside, I get asked about whether I do podcasts quite often. It goes with having come from a radio broadcasting background and publishing podcasts years ago. There are good podcasts, average podcasts and plain awful podcasts. I actually dislike them immensely because of how low the quality bar has become - some have dreadful presenters, others are over-produced, and just have unoriginal content. If youre thinking of creating a podcast, or contributing to one, at least take the time to do your research and plan your communication...as you should no matter the channel. Thats my contribution to the CSA. Now have a laugh.

15.01.2022 What a week! Im not sure in the 30+ years Ive worked in media/communications, Ive ever had a week like this one, & Ive done plenty of crisis comms in my time. Its been difficult to curb my emotions as Ive been working to strategically assist clients with messaging and reassess the viability of projects over the coming year. In the midst of this my only guinea hen hatched 14 keets (chicks). It was a grounding event & I started to be thankful for living where I live. If I... have to be self-isolated and able to work online, then Im in a great place to do so. Ive got awesome clients who have had to make some incredibly tough decisions this week. I havent escaped unscathed & the next 6 months is going to be very hard...for everyone. We are in this together - even if youre sick of hearing that & the selfish acts of some dont indicate thats the case. Be kind, check in on each other, take care of not just yourself but those who are most vulnerable, and please, please heed the advice of the authorities. And one last word, dont share information on #covid19 from anywhere but a primary source (health authorities). Be responsible. See more

15.01.2022 Just letting you know that I'm going to eventually close this Facebook Page. Most of my activity is now on Goldsmith's Studio. Same on Instagram. Any professional contact can happen there or on LinkedIn.

15.01.2022 Times of chaos can be the perfect time to step back and assess what youre doing and how effective your actions are. If youre finding it difficult to get traction, or youre finding yourself reacting to the crisis rather than feeling like you have a plan, maybe its time to get some help. Strategic communications planning is critical at times like this. Im happy to chat if you think you need help. No need for close contact - just about everything I do is online.

14.01.2022 In the face of a devastating year on so many fronts and a long summer ahead of drought, bushfires, water shortages, political incompetence and more, Ive taken the time to take stock of the good things that have come my way this year. Im feeling thankful that Ive had the capacity to be creative and challenged thanks to my wonderful clients and fellow professionals. After all, its the people and their stories that make what I do worth doing. 2019 saw me travel across NSW fo...r clients, working on a number of marketing communications fronts including starting the year on the social media marketing for the new regional event, Cobars Grey Mardi Gras. No sooner had the glad rags been packed away and I was designing and developing marketing workshops for direct to market producers with Greater Sydney Local Land Services including face to face workshops in Richmond and the production of a series of online marketing videos. I continued my work doing all things marcoms with Boarding Schools Expo again this year - covering socials, the blog, e-news, a brand new e-magazine launched this year and live updates from the Dubbo Expo. A new campaign with Macquarie Cotton Growers started mid-year with some strategic planning, developing a comms plan and then getting stuck into some fact-based content production run over several months through to November. And not to forget, a new suite of videos were produced this year for AllAbilitiesdanz. This was all before I went overseas for 3 months for a long-awaited holiday travelling across the Nordic countries mostly by train, and a 2-month artist residency in rural and remote Iceland. My work with Goldsmiths Studio dominated the second half of the year with not only the residency, but the development of new soundscape work for the Cementa Festival in Kandos and the opening of a major digital media (video, sound & VR) solo show at the Western Plains Cultural Centre, and digital photography works shown in Cambridge (UK) with my Arts Territory Exchange collaborator. Bring on 2020!

13.01.2022 How many of you work to a plan? Im a planner. I had a period of about 10 years in my 30s without one and eventually the wheels fell off in a big way. Its a new decade for me, and Im reshaping how I work through this one - less must do and more lets try this a different way. Less of the stuff that doesnt tick my boxes, more of the stuff that energises me. Ive put in place some supports over the past few weeks to help make this happen...cause if you dont, it wont. Hope the 20s are good for you too!

09.01.2022 I've been at this 24 years today. It's my business anniversary. While I'm still working on projects that now span more industries and sectors than just agriculture, the heart and soul of what I do is in the regions. Thankfully, my business has been through a few tough times over the past 2.5 decades, so the current situation hasn't really changed what I do and how I work. Wishing you all better days ahead. I am planning to get to 25 years.

09.01.2022 Who has their dog at work today? Would love to see who is sharing your office space.

09.01.2022 Ever felt like your world has tipped over? Im feeling a bit like this as I see my daughter off on a new chapter in her life. She wont be just a couple of hours down the road anymore, and visits will require much more planning. But maybe this tipping point is an opportunity for a new chapter in my life too? Taking opportunities as they arise is an important part of being successful in small business...Ive got a 24th business anniversary just around the corner. Such possibilities!

09.01.2022 In the company of great rural women each with an interesting story to share today, thanks to MBC. Thank you Secure Impact, Kim Storey Photographer & Outback Lamb, & to Clare Sillett for being emcee.

08.01.2022 Ive been working on a little project for The CORRIDOR Project (Cowra) over the past couple of weeks, thats had me in front of the camera again. 08.01.2022 OFFER NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU. If youre interested in a review of your marketing/communications (including media/social media) plans for 2020, Ive got some limited spots (an opportunity for one or two organisations/businesses only) available from next week until 18 December. Things will get busy again in the New Year, but Im happy to provide feedback and make recommendations on projects, business or campaign activities before things crank up again in 2020. Rural and regiona...l organisations/businesses are also eligible for a special drought rate**. Interested? Message me or email me at [email protected]. 2019 has been a big year for me, working with several organisations on strategic comms planning development and implementation, digital content production, community relations and social media campaigns, project development, marketing workshop design and delivery + an amazing 2 months spent at an artist residency in Iceland (Goldsmiths Studio). Things are in planning for 2020 now, which is shaping up to be just as interesting. Im always happy to talk with anyone though who might have an interesting project or campaign to add to the mix. **conditional (based on a min. of 4 hours)

08.01.2022 Does anyone recognise this place? Its a lovely shady walk that gently leads you into new spaces to explore. That sounds idyllic, doesnt it? If only lifes opportunities happened like that! Some can be planned to gently transition you to new things, others jump at you with no warning. Would you still take those opportunities?

07.01.2022 End of month, end of financial year, first month of winter done and dusted, new beginnings, change of focus, a bright spot on a dark horizon. Where are you at right now? It probably depends on your circumstances. Ive taken the opportunity over the past couple of months to do some thinking and planning. Its been busy - even hectic. But its time for new challenges. Hoping youre in a good place too.

06.01.2022 Heres hoping 2020 brings more puddles to reflect in and on. Working in rural and regional marcoms means theres another layer of issues to manage that are specifically related to climatic conditions, the seasons, and geography. Based in the heart of NSW, its what Ive specialised in for the past 24 years. This year, Im looking forward to working with clients on rural and regional education, the arts, and on-farm value-adding (a nice mix), but Im always happy to talk about projects coming up.

06.01.2022 As I sit here watching the rain bucket down today, waiting for videos to render and putting the finishing touches on my Agri.Women.Business. talk for tomorrow in Eugowra, I wanted to share this thought with you. Its from my talk and relates to telling authentic stories. "It means showing the dust, the mud, the lines and scars that hint at something not easily achieved, the good times and the bad, done with passion and commitment. It tells of failures and successes, times of doubt and joy, quiet times and busy times, echoing universal experiences of life." Tell your story to someone today. You never know what a profound impact it may have.

05.01.2022 Now Im almost over the jetlag, Im back in the office today to catch up on where everyone is at after 3 months overseas working on a major project. Limited hours available until mid-January. With Monday/Tuesday (9-1) the main two days & Wednesdays by appointment only. Time to start setting the direction for 2020.

03.01.2022 Some thoughts in detail on where socials are heading in 2020 from Social Media Today. Bottom line, theres no one size fits all in this space. All the giants are trying to get the edge on the next big thing as fatigue sets in across all platforms. Monetisation of functions (not just ads) within these platforms will continue. Narrowcasting and messaging will be two other key words from these predictions. That means selective messaging to communities of interest. For my clients..., my advice is know where your audience is, work on talking directly with them in that space with good quality content, and encourage community building...and take that community offline with you from time to time. Thats what creates the magic. Make them part of what you do. If you want to know more, Im always happy to chat. https://www.socialmediatoday.com//20-predictions-f/568212/

Tickets on sale until tomorrow. A great day out, thanks to MBC. Join us for some great food, company and plenty of laughs. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/womenagribusiness-tickets-9

02.01.2022 Magic light tonight at the end of a big day in the office. So many irons in the fire at present with new campaigns getting underway, community consultations, event presentations & field trip preparations happening here this week. How is your week shaping up?

01.01.2022 Artists bring a lot of skills to the table when theyre creating an exhibition. Its pretty much project management once you come up with a concept. The execution is as important as the creative concept if its to ever go public. Not long now - my opening is 14 December. For updates on the Icelandic leg of my current project, check my Goldsmiths Studio page or the website - www.eyeofthecorvus.art.
