24.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 5 We began the day busking, feeling weirdly strange when people ask us to sign things for them - but it's a nice weirdly strange The highl...ight of the day was our very own "Australia Day Performance" at the Fanzone! I thought our performance would be cancelled after a tremendous dust storm, but that passed and on stage we went! Tomorrow we play at the Tamworth Town Hall, competing again this year in The New Stars Of Tamworth competition... See more

22.01.2022 AUSSIE VERSE WRITING CHALLENGE! Well, there are so many challenges going around online at the moment that I thought it was time to create a new one the end result being the biggest and best Australian song ever written! My challenge is to have as many people as possible write their own verse for a new song called I’m An Aussie!. The structure of the song will be each VERSE + CHORUS, VERSE + CHORUS, etc. The chorus will be: "I’m an Aussie, I’m an Aussie... Ridgy-didge and dinky-di, no doubting that I’m an Aussie, I am Australian And for every single smile I give I get ten smiles back" Now, your part requires you to write 8 lines of verse following this structure: Line 1 = 8 syllables Line 2 = 6 Line 3 = 8 Line 4 = 6 Line 5 = 8 Line 6 = 6 Line 7 = 8 Line 8 = 6 With lines 2 and 4 rhyming, and 6 and 8 rhyming (or part rhyming at least). For example: One day outside my local pub I sat down on the curb The local copper came along To have a quiet word You can’t sit here! I know, I said But when I stand and bend I see that sign NO STANDING so I sit back down again. As I receive each of your verses, I’ll add it to our song (along with your name), which will be posted on my Facebook page Aussie Country Song Lyrics by Floyd Black. Spread the word, and let’s see if together we can write the biggest and best Aussie song ever! (Please email your verse to [email protected]) AND PLEASE SHARE See more

21.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 7 Today we played off in the finals of The New Stars Of Tamworth (Golden Oldies section) and came 3rd. We were rapped and, having spoken to ...the judges after our performance, apparently 1 point separated 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd. The huge crowd at the Town Hall were fantastically vocal! See more

21.01.2022 Our next meeting will be next Sunday - Jan 12th - from 11am until 1pm by The Campaspe River in Kyneton. See you then

20.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 3 Probably our craziest day of the Festival! Spent the morning busking, then raced off to another Tamworth Songwriters Association gig (wher...e we kicked bum!), then raced off to The Balladeers Homestead where Dusty Mann held the stage supreme yet again.... and then we raced off again to The Longyard for the evening where I was nominated as a songwriter finalist. I didn't win - but what an honour it is to make the finals, and just to get the opportunity to play every day here in Tammy!! See more

19.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 4 It was a special highlight for young Floydie and Sweet Sunshine Sue today. We got to meet the world famous fiddle player Pixie Jenkins, an...d pitch The Floyd Black Band to him - who he has offered to produce an album for! As well as that, it was Busking, Busking and more Busking on (busking central) Peel Street. Tomorrow we're on the Fanzone stage! See more

18.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 6 What a day! We began the day with the obligatory 2 hour busk, then headed to the Town Hall to compete in the Tamworth Battle Of The New St...ars. We were allowed only one song and played a cracker version of Click Go The Shears.... And then, we received a phone call to say that we've made the Finals!! So tomorrow we're back at the Town Hall to play off against the other two finalists! And we've decided to go with one of our new original songs called "Our Old Mate Chad" - a tribute to the great Chad Morgan (who's still performing and turns 87 next month). This all happened after Dusty received a phone call asking whether Lee Kernaghan's band could borrow my banjo! See more

18.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 2 Our 1st official gig was "Songwriters Sing" at The Square Man Inn this morning. I hosted the event, and there was some pretty awesome tale...nt on show... including The Old Floydsters! But truely awesome talent was displayed tonight at The Balladeers Homestead by our own Dusty Mann who knocked their socks off with his own original material! Go Dusty Mann! See more

13.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 8 After an amazing week of music, having caught up with old friends and having made new ones, today we're On The Road Again! We busked, play...ed pubs and clubs, played at the Town Hall to 400 odd people, played at Fanzone, attended an Awards Night at the famous Longyard as a nominee, competed in the finals of New Stars, appeared on Win News, distributed CDs to various radio stations, played at The Balladeers Homestead, bullshitted in the ears of a couple of celebrities... and so the week went. 03.01.2022 Tamworth 2020 - Day 1 Arrived today and Dusty was straight off to promise the great Chad Morgan musical success if he will only listen to my song Our Old Mate C...had (which Dusty played to Chad from his phone)! We're going to showcase the song tomorrow at The Square Man Inn. And then while we were sitting outside our motel rooms relaxing with a cold after a long drive, we listened to our song Long Road To Tamworth being played on the radio! Not a bad start to the Festival. Stay tuned for installment 2 tomorrow night See more
