24.01.2022 EDAA dentist Hayley Kelly had an interesting case today. A client rang concerned about her horse as he was slow eating his feed, quidding (spitting out balls of... half chewed food) hay and grass, chewing the fences and trees, and excessively and pulling faces throughout the day. This had been happening for two days. When Hayley examined him she found that the horse had a stick wedged between his two fifth upper molars (between his teeth on the roof of his mouth). This was inhibiting his ability to swallow and had caused multiple cuts on his tongue. Hayley removed the stick and floated his teeth. Afterwards Hayley and his owner took him for a pick of grass and he was eating and swallowing as normal!!! The cuts on his tongue will heal in 4-7 days. This is not a very common occurrence but is one of the reasons you should watch your horses eat.

12.01.2022 A few common issues we see most weeks out in the field. Good news is they can all be managed with routine dental treatments from a qualified Equine Dental Technician! Dont leave it too long between visits! Is your horse or pony due for a checkup?

Horses tee...th continue to grow throughout their life, and they can develop sharp enamel bits that can lead to cuts (ulceration) to the cheeks and tongue, ouch!
