08.01.2022 Great article by Master Electricians Australia CEO Malcolm Richards in this month's Circuit magazine (https://en.calameo.com/read/0003734959831438920f7) page 9 regarding electrocutions and the lack of interest by authorities . There are about 15 deaths per year by electrocution. However......... There are about 29 deaths from ladder falls every year. ... In Victoria alone there are about 750 hospitalisations just for DIY ladder falls....this does NOT include workplace falls. This on top of the thousands of ongoing hospitalizations and acquired brain injuries that cost about $1Billion year on year that are largely preventable. Most people know someone who's fallen off a ladder. The authorities again won't address the problem fully or recommend the use of the many available safety accessories to prevent ladder falls. There only seems to be a cyclical pattern of ladder safety campaigns by our safe work overseers and insurers. In Australia the "She'll be right" attitudes prevails.....seemingly even with the regulators. As a survivor of an extremely serious ladder fall I can only hope this changes.
