17.01.2022 Excursions We are getting a lot of great feedback from the children, families and educators about the excursions. But why do we go on excursions with the children? What does it all mean? The answer in short is community engagement. When out in the community children are developing links and learning important information which they will use for the rest of their lives. Community engagement is also referred to in both Early years framework (EYLF) Learning Outcome 2 of the EY...LF focuses on childrens connectedness with others and with the wider world (DEEWR, 2009, p. 25) and the National Quality Standard (NQS) Standard 6.3 of the NQS requires services to develop links with relevant community and support agencies (NQS Element 6.3.1) and, more generally, to build relationships and engage with the local community (NQS Element 6.3.2) (ACECQA, 2011, p. 159). 03.01.2022 Today the children from the Kangaroo group went on an excursion to the Ballarat Tram Museum. The children climbed onto almost all of the trams in the museum, having a seat, pretending to drive and even had a play with the toys in a stationary tram. Peter and Roger showed us were the motor of the tram is under the floor a but scary for some of the children sitting near by. Our tram driver Roger punched a ticket and gave one to each of his passengers. This was really exciting f...or the children. When we got to the end of the tram line, we all got out and helped Roger change the line for the power. All the children held onto the rope and pulled it to the back and onto the next power line above the tram. The children saw and heard when it didn't and when it did have power from doing this. We saw a lot of things out the window on our ride, cars, ducks, a playground and people walking. At the other end of the tram line we all got off and Roger and Peter then showed us that they had to change the tram line to go straight instead of turning, watching Roger use the tools to adjust the track. All the children really enjoyed the excursion today. See more
