25.01.2022 Greg’s had his farmer toys out today. The Honda cultivator was my dad’s, (who left us 20 years ago), so it must be at least 23 years old ... and has never had a service. Shocking, I know, but starts every time! Another recent, handy purchase was the electric-drill driven thingy! I’m getting good at charging the batteries while Greg does the bed preparations. Sharon’s Edit Post: ... 1. Turns out it wasn’t my Dad’s cultivator, but one like it. Greg bought it about 18 years ago. What would I know? 2. The drill-bit driven thingy is called a Tilther. Only goes 50mm into soil to mix compost, etc in the bed.

25.01.2022 What’s growing in our garden? 1. Newly transplanted zucchinis. 2. Beetroot babies 3. Beans and Silver Beet- under the cloche (netting removed for some sunshine)... 4. Potatoes and garlic 5. *Insert swear word here* A forest of Stinging Nettles - volunteers from a previous green manure crop. See more

22.01.2022 Chilly Orchard walk today, checking out the growth in the new mulberry tree and pomegranate bush. Lemons are looking lush!

21.01.2022 The warmer weather has flicked the switch on the growth of our zucchinis. How do you use this fantastic vegetable?

19.01.2022 Zucchini flower filling with water. Nice steady rain today - very welcome. The zucchini harvest begins slowly and quickly rises. They are such a useful vegetable to use in cooking.

19.01.2022 Purple pride Geraldton wax in full bloom. If you look carefully, you may spot a visitor to our Grevillea. The birds also love them. Nature adds to our quality of life every day.

19.01.2022 Moved the chooks today. As you can imagine they love new ground. These are mostly pastured poultry girls from Runnymede Farm near Binningup(Thanks Blythe). They come to our farm to do a bit of work in the orchard. Pretty much retire!!

18.01.2022 More black and whites on the farm. Spuddy will be happy!

17.01.2022 Sharon’s Dad, and Grandad, were potato farmers on this very farm. It’s nice to follow in their footsteps, with a few Delaware potatoes in the ground.

17.01.2022 Our Mystiques (bred in WA at the old Stoneville Research Station) are coming along well. We will pick them in about a month. Lots of juice and only a few seeds.

15.01.2022 Farmer Greg planting some asparagus crowns for our own consumption. Sent in the mail from Thrive Sustainability in Lower Chittering. If they make it, maybe we’ll grow heaps more. Only 2 years until harvest.

15.01.2022 Weather not that great today. Decided to have a go at some pumpkin scones using our Jarrahdales and some welcome supervision from Sharon Lancaster.

15.01.2022 A sunny day for the start of mandarin harvest 2019! We had our feathered workers scratching around these trees last year, and the trees have responded with some magnificent mandarins. #chickenpooresults #atesomeoftheprofit

14.01.2022 Thanks for supporting local organic growers @ The Organic Collective. Nice to know that our Mystiques have gone to a great shop in Perth. Thanks to Darcy Lancaster for helping us out with the picking and delivery.

13.01.2022 Second grass seed for poor old Spuddy in the space of a couple of weeks. One in his ear and the other in his foot. A hazard of summer on the farm. He was a very good patient at the Brunswick Vets even though he was poked, prodded and injected with antibiotics. Bandage on for three days - if he doesn’t chew it off.

11.01.2022 Using the tractor forks to tire out a certain BC!

10.01.2022 The girls are starting to lay a bit more regularly. Nice coloured yolks.

09.01.2022 I’m thinking Potato and Chick Pea Curry.

07.01.2022 Our massive herd of 8 black and whites finally found gold after wandering around the farm for most of the day. They are very quiet.

07.01.2022 We are on a regenerative journey with our farm. This year we have embarked (pun alert)on a tree planting programme that we hope will cool our farm down, protect our soil and provide more habitat for creatures. Our plan is about increasing biodiversity in all aspects of the way we farm. One of the keys is to increase soil biology using a number of methods. The photographs show some results from sowing a few different species. The more variety the better. We will let this pasture go to seed, then mow it and leave an insulating cover on the ground over summer. Not everything has grown perfectly, but that is OK. Roly Poly Farm (CSA market gardeners) and Runnymede Farm (Beef/Pastured eggs) both located in Harvey, Western Australia, are also following regen principles.

07.01.2022 We’re excited as we watch our home orchard trees growing their summer crops. Just need to net the quince and apricot trees ASAP. #futurequincepaste #avocadobabies #futureapricotjam

03.01.2022 Took Spuddy for an estuary walk this afternoon. I am sure he set a new world record for the number of pees in 50m. Anyway he enjoyed his excursion away from the farm.

01.01.2022 Couldn’t wait, so bandicooted some Delaware spuds. Tea sorted, steamed new potatoes (butter, salt and pepper)- yum.
