25.01.2022 We had a busy day out and about yesterday! First up was the Cairns Chamber of Commerce February Lunch at Riley, a Crystalbrook Collection Resort. We heard about the successes of the Cairns Convey to Capital Q from a great panel of guest speakers - Michael Healy MP, Nick Loukas from the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, Wendy Hughes from Advance Cairns, and Norris Carter from Cairns Airport - convened by Sally Mlikota from CBC Staff Selection. We then attended a Directors' Legislat...ion Update with the Australian Institute of Company Directors at the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino, with guest speakers from MacDonnells Law. A good refresher with lots of information for Directors to consider as we head into 2020! #learning #networking #Cairns #LangtreeLegal

Red Benches can be found in various locations around Queensland and are a public way of keeping the awareness of domestic and family violence visible. #ChangeTheEnding #LangtreeLegal

16.01.2022 The Fair Work Commission has announced that minimum wages will increase by 1.75%. However, this increase will be applied across three different dates depending on the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the business’s industry sector. In completing the Annual Wage Review, the Commission determined that those industries least affected by the Coronavirus pandemic would see the increase first, and those businesses most affected would not need to increase wages ...until early 2021. Broadly, the groupings are: : Frontline Health Care and Social Assistance Workers, Teachers and Child Care, and other essential services (those industries and sectors less affected by the pandemic) and the National Minimum Wage. : Construction, Manufacturing and a range of other industries (industry sectors which were adversely impacted by the pandemic, but not to the same extent as group 3). : Accommodation and Food Services, Arts and Recreation Services, Aviation, Retail, and Tourism (those industries most adversely affected by the pandemic). Those in Group 1 will increase minimum wages from the first full pay period after 1 July 2020. Those in Group 2 will apply the increase from the first full pay period after 1 November 2020, and those in Group 3 will apply the increase from the first full pay period after 1 February 2021. If you need assistance reviewing your wages, contact us or visit the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website at www.fwo.gov.au.

15.01.2022 The Australian Government has today announced the significant changes made to Modern Awards in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Firstly, if you are an employer or employee covered by the General Retail Industry Award 2010, the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2010, or the Clerks - Private Sector Award 2010, then these changes mean:... * An increased ability to vary employees' duties to accommodate new operational requirements * Changed flexibility terms to allow working from home arrangements, where this may have been previously unlawful under some Modern Awards Secondly, across 103 Modern Awards (including those above ), the Government has also announced: * Access to 2 weeks unpaid pandemic leave * The ability to access accrued annual leave at half the rate of pay for double the length of time These measures impact over 2 million workers, and ensure that employers and employees have the flexibility needed to protect their livelihoods during this time. To check your Modern Award, visit the Fair Work Commission's website at www.fwc.gov.au. For information on pay, conditions and entitlements, visit the Fair Work Ombudsman's website at www.fwo.gov.au.
