25.01.2022 A man whose ax was missing suspected his neighbor's son. The boy walked like a thief, looked like a thief, and spoke like a thief. Later that day the man found his ax while he was digging in the valley, and the next time he saw his neighbor's son, the boy walked, looked, and spoke like any other child.

25.01.2022 Giving up is something that everyone who has big goals thinks about at some point in time. Thomas Watson said: Would you like me to give you the formula for success?... It’s quite simple, really. DOUBLE your rate of failure... You’re thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure - or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because, remember that’s where you’ll find success. On the other side of failure. I’ve found this to be true in every area of my life and business. The more I fail the more I succeed! Which means there’s no giving up for me now.. Not when I know there’s more success on the other side of my next failure! So...Don’t give up !

22.01.2022 Not in Language Learning 101 BUT One of the first steps in learning to listen better is to quieten what is happening in your head. ... If your head is filled with shoulds, fears, worries and judgements then there is little left to hear with.

22.01.2022 A checklist to help you see if you are on the path to real improvement in your English speaking ( applies to all languages of course)

22.01.2022 Focus on this skill, and I can guarantee that your learning will improve. A big claim I know. However this is what I have seen time and time again in the over 30 years I have been a teacher of English (and other languages) and a language learner.

22.01.2022 Finding the inspiration that will take you from being mediocre to really excelling in English (or any other language you are learning) is a key. Without making that shift, native-like levels will stay outside of the possibilities of learners.

21.01.2022 If you are wondering about how good your accent can become, check out this wild thing!

18.01.2022 Language helps to form what we see, think, feel and taste.

18.01.2022 Translation is commonly used by people learning a new language and of course it is most useful at times. However, it's indiscriminate use can undermine you actually achieving mastery. 17.01.2022 Do more of this to maximise chances of learning a language: - use the language - use your ears to learn - aim to learn skills and improve them till you gain confidence... Do less of this: - memorise new words - study grammar - improve your knowledge - worry about making mistakes

17.01.2022 Interesting quote about learning. "... career success is rarely about finding the right solution to a problem it’s more about finding the right problem to solve. "What Straight-A Students Get Wrong" NY Times

17.01.2022 Taking some time off, I am reminded that when the sun shines, everything seems rosy. However, when the rains and storms come, maintaining that same attitude is a choice. That is the same when we are working to learn something, like a language. Keeping going and improving and refining sometimes seems to go well. We need to be prepared to keep going when things aren't going so smoothly.

17.01.2022 Native like-like levels in English are well in your grasp IF you take on practices that will get you there and discard the ones that put you on dead end paths

14.01.2022 One reason babies learn so well is that they are completely present in whatever they do. Another is that they don't waste their time studying grammar rules or drawing up lists of vocabulary that they might one day need!

14.01.2022 Nothing can stop you improving your English, once you learn to get rid of any disempowering beliefs about yourself you may have. And embrace ways that grow your skills and confidence. Stay clear of ways that don’t do both.

09.01.2022 Not learning English (or any language) as a skill will create obstacles that are hard to get around. Listen in and discover the guilty practices and why they need to be avoided at all cost. 08.01.2022 Gain some insights as to how to make your "practice" of English more valuable... At advanced levels, there is still a need to do some highly focussed work if your aim is to keep improving. Improvement may happen just from using the language. However, there may be some entrenched issues which may end up requiring more than that. This clip is taken from a coaching session I had with an advanced learner who is working at transferring what he has achieved in reducing his accent at word level into his everyday speech.

07.01.2022 Tim Cahill : ‘It doesn't stop unless I want it to stop. To those who doubt me, I'm the conductor, not you. If there's an obstacle I'll go through it, I'll go around it, I'll go over it.' Australian soccer legend

07.01.2022 Here I propose some alternatives to the bankrupted practices that have derailed learners from achieving native-like speaking skills in a second language. This is the fourth pillar that has been supporting that myth about native like skills acquisition nor being achievable. It has limited language learners aspirations for too long.

07.01.2022 The second leg that holds up the myth that achieving native like levels in a new language is not really possible is the one of learning approach. Without learning with passion, excellence is not really feasible. Listen in and find out what is needed to learn with passion.

05.01.2022 A key reason why learning to play any sport well is easier than learning to speak English (or any other language) well is not what you may immediately think. Sure, there is a lot more to a language in MANY ways. However, there are so many similarities. Why? Because both are skills. Listen in to a short 3 minute recording of a part of one of my coaching sessions and discover one of the key reasons why learning to excel in speaking English requires your awareness in an area we are not so used to focussing on anymore. #english #speaking #learning #speakenglish

04.01.2022 The ONLY way to improve your accent is to improve your listening. Of that there is no doubt! Here is how you can do it! Prices reduced by 70%! for a limited time

03.01.2022 Just imagine learning to bounce a ball one day and then the next expecting to be playing basketball like a pro. That is what you are thinking when you learn to "fix" a pronunciation issue one day and then expect the fixed sound to be used in your speaking the next! Repetition is not the answer either. The answer lies in understanding that there are steps to go through in any skill before you can become skilled in use. Pronunciation is no different. Without going through the steps, no matter how advanced you are, you are just going to struggle. I will be laying out these steps and a whole lot more in the Free 10 Day Pronunciation Challenge starting next week (May 11) https://englishconfidenceunlocked.com/pronunciation-challen
