14.01.2022 Often a question I hear is, how many words do you need to know roughly to be fluent in a language? Here's a rough idea for spanish :)

14.01.2022 Confessions of a Native Spanish Speaker Tu y usted: Oh how i struggled to distinguish the two!!! growing up in Australia, everything was just easier when everyone was you or Tu; never or hardly usted. I recall the Chilean ambassador for Australia came to visit us in Tasmania one year. We were all so excited to have him and eager to tell him about the Chilean community and how great life is in Tasmania. I recall asking the ambassador "y tu? te gusta Tasmania?"... Faces of shock and outrage surrounded me and all of a sudden I was reminded of the difference between 'tu and usted'. The ambassador just laughed, but to this day I still feel so embarrassed. iQue Vergüenza! Lesson of the day TU: informal you USTED: Formal you VOSOTROS: Formal "you all" or "y'all"

11.01.2022 Often a lot of people find it difficult to differentiate the difference between 'ser' and 'estar'. These verbs translate to mean "i am, you are, he/she is, we are". As you can see there are two different words to describe what we are or, in some circumstances, where we are. This is very technical and advanced stuff people, so feel free to contact German or anyone else you think may help if you have any questions at all :). Many of you may have already met "ser" and "estar", some of you may not. Regardless, this is great practice for what's in store or revision for what you have done. Happy Practicing!!

Have no fear, here are some handy phrases to help you get what you want across in class discussions, whether it's in conversation in class time or a one on one session with a mirror....
