25.01.2022 Some fabulous ideas here in this month's Action for Happiness Calendar. What awesome active things to try for the school hols. Enjoy.

24.01.2022 Today our Grade 3s performed The Further Adventures of Martin Cash. The play focused on Australian Geography and History. The audience learnt about the design of the Sydney Opera House, famous boat designer Ben Lexcen, the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Wave Hill Cattle Station and Aboriginal activist Vincent Lingiaris struggle for land rights and equal pay. Also included was a little known fact that in the 1980s, Devonport was the home of Serendipity Theme Park.

24.01.2022 A few snaps to share new classrooms and the exterior this morning. The atmosphere is so calming inside these rooms, I wish I could work from here! Welcome back... to Term 2 everyone. We’ll be planning our next SCA meeting but want to reach out to all parents and caters - what time would work best for you to attend a monthly meeting? We’ve all got full schedules but an hour per month to contribute to the school community is so worthwhile. Please have a think and let me know. Currently the time is 7pm on a Thursday. - many thanks, Jen See more

23.01.2022 For the Diary... On Friday 21st August, our SRC are holding a "Warm and Snuggly" day for winter. Students are welcome to wear their PJs, or anything warm and snuggly for the day to school. If you come dressed up, we are encouraging a small contribution to the Hobart City Mission (ie- a can of soup for example). The Hobart City Mission create food packs of non-perishable foods/winter woolies for families doing it tough in our community at the moment. We are also collecting warm gloves and beanies to donate. Thank you in advance for your generosity. The Grade 6, Student Representative Council, 2020.

21.01.2022 Last Friday, our Grade 5 and 6 Student Inquiry Leaders hosted a student meeting with other students and staff from within our school coalition (Mount Stuart PS, Mount Nelson PS, Albuera Street PS, Campbell Street PS, Taroona PS, Taroona HS, South Hobart PS). We engaged with the coalition to explore the question: What are the most effective teaching practices that enable all learners to achieve at their best, in writing? It was lovely to welcome back many Lansdowne alumni who were representing Taroona HS and were part of the project in 2019. There was such a buzz in the room, beautifully hosted by our Lansdowners. Watch out for more information on this exciting inquiry and partnership for our senior students.

10.01.2022 4 Yellow and 4 Blue put on two wonderful performances today in The Rise of the Machines. The plays were based on life in the Industrial Revolution. They covered the invention of steam powered engines, child labour in factories and coal mines, Luddites, gender inequality in the 1800s and crime and punishment. It is also a little known fact that watching a performance deemed by the King to be seditious was an offence punishable by imprisonment during the Industrial Revolution. As a result, the teachers were required to be placed in chains at the conclusion of the performance.

01.01.2022 What a fabulous start to Term 2 for our Lansdowne learners. New learning spaces have now been moved into by our Grade 2s. You may have also noticed landscaping artwork popping up around the place. Last year, our senior students were lucky enough to work alongside artist Andrew Johnson on creating clever and innovative designs for our playground. It is so exciting to see these designs start to become a reality.

01.01.2022 A great post to read with wise words from The Resilience Cos founder Lisa Ford.

01.01.2022 A lovely message of thanks to our school community from the Hobart City Mission.

01.01.2022 Our wonderful Grade 1/2 and 2 Blue performed The Three Pigs for the whole school today. The children have been rehearsing very hard in drama this term, and showed great bravery in front of large audiences. The play was a variation on the traditional tale, in which the pigs are able to escape from the Big Bad Wolf and have adventures in other lands. The characters they encounter include a not so evil dragon, a princess who doesn't want to be rescued, an annoying moon jumping cow, a thieving dish and a misunderstood witch. Well done to both classes for all your hard work.
