13.01.2022 We all want to get the Market up and running. I have been told Beckley park opens tomorrow, and the Melbourne markets are running. Under the restrictions we... do not qualify yet. We see even more difficulties trying to sell consumable food when we do start. We are watching it daily and we will go when we can. Until they lift the outdoor gathering rules we are stumped. We are not a Market Business, so we are a social gathering and we need the go ahead from the Council and the RSL as well. Lets hope we get the go ahead real soon

10.01.2022 Hello everyone, we hope everyone is staying happy and healthy during these trying times. For an update on the Lara Community Market - we all want to get the market back up and running. Our club has been told Beckley Park opens tomorrow, and the Melbourne Markets are running. But unfortunately under the restrictions we do not qualify yet. As we are not a Market Business, we qualify as a social gathering and we are waiting on the go ahead from the Council and the RSL as well. W...e see even more difficulties trying to sell consumable food when we do start. We are enquiring daily and we will go when we are told. Until they lift the outdoor gathering rules we are stumped, however the health and safety of our members and our community will always come first. So as soon as its safe well be back, and we cant wait to see all our stall holders and our community members as soon as possible See more

05.01.2022 Today is International Literacy Day and many children across this globe still remain at risk of illiteracy without access to early education. Haiti is the third poorest country in the world and the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. With an average income of less than 3 US dollars per day, most Haitian families are sadly unable to cover the costs of registration, tuition, curriculum, uniforms, and school supplies. The literacy rate of Haiti is 61 percent and the impact on f...amilies is immeasurable. United Hearts Haiti remains dedicated in their work to lift the children of Haiti out of this cycle. The lifelong impact of illiteracy is evident right now. I have seen whole families who can not read, and can not count. These families are the poorest of the poor. They survive day to day on whatever they can grow themselves in poor soil on their small plot of land. The children are malnourished, the parents are uneducated. The people of Haiti know the importance of literacy, but are trapped and without hope because they cannot afford it. They will give away their children to orphanages or enslaved situations with the promise of food and an education for their child. Without improved literacy, generations will continue on in this cycle. -Darlene Schmeckpepper See more

01.01.2022 Leadership doesnt recognise age! Young District Governor to make history. Geraldine Rurenga will make history as the youngest Rotary district governor in Zone ...8 when she takes up the mantle in 2022. Geraldine, 29, has been a member of the Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga Murrumbidgee, NSW, since 2014, when she joined after returning to her hometown of Wagga Wagga after a 10-year hiatus. I wanted to make connections and friends in the town I had just started teaching in, and I wanted to contribute to the community through service, Geraldine said. I had attended a few Rotary meetings in different towns with my mother, Eilagh, who is also a Rotarian. Later this year, Waggas District 9700 will merge with Canberras District 9710, forming a super district of around 80 clubs. However, Geraldine is up for the challenge and is looking forward to representing the increasing level of diversity in membership and broader society within the district leadership and encouraging more younger people to get involved. Rotary is committed to community service, and to serve the community we need to be representative of the diversity of that community. We need the diverse world views and perspectives to operate authentically and purposefully, Geraldine said. Rotary provides many opportunities for young people to take advantage of. Regardless of your passion or area of expertise, Rotary creates the space for you to develop skills and follow your interests in serving humanity. The impact it has had on my life has certainly provided me with the skills and confidence to take on greater challenges, in my career and in my personal life. Story by Kylie Hatfield appeard in the June 2020 edition of Rotary Down Under magazine. https://rotarydownunder.com.au//young-district-governor-t/
