25.01.2022 When the proof is 365000 kms well done! genuine Toyota original clutch there's simply no other option than to use genuine parts again back in the good ol girl.

25.01.2022 When the book says replace timing belt it hurts a tad!! but if you dont its real bad.just follow the belt down its just been to the Dentist.

24.01.2022 Noisy front wheel bearing on nice old E30 BMW which is getting a fair make over.

24.01.2022 What some are prepared to turn a blind eye to never ceases to amaze me this is a brake calliper where persons unknown had stripped the thread out of the housing and simply left it to good luck. The photo on the left is how it was and on the right is how it should have looked.

24.01.2022 Hey all what you we have here is a simple case of genuine versus crap. Have a look for yourself here and take a walk in my shoes. As you can see a grease trail of grease flicked due to the fact it was never in the bloody uni as old mate couldn't get it in there. Small nipple wrong fit!! A simple taskgrab a grease gun push grease into a nipple not rocket science.Oh but hold the phone someone's used a cheap arse uni and even with my nipple finder, I'm not able to get to th...e little bugger, take a look how small it is. How did I do it you ask?well I undid the four bolts at pinion flange to get to lil bugger nipple..simple stupid!! No one has ever told me of this problem before is what they tell me when I call and say mate it's wrong. Bull shirt I say this shits been going on for friggin years, deaf ears!! Then see the genuine bugger and you will see what I mean, ( nice big nipple easy to get too) oh by the way this is only a little friggen nipple im talking about!!which is a part of the drive shaft that makes the vehicle go from A to B but remember the entire vehicle is made of little bits as such. That's it winge done next one please. Ha See more

23.01.2022 Persons unknown had attempted to fix the brakes on this cruiser and had replaced the caliber. Wonder why? We do an apprenticeship and become tradesman for a bloody good reason Stupid hose also fitted to transfer to transmission. Grrr

22.01.2022 Clutch talk time I’ve done a few clutches lately, and the annoying thing I’m seeing is that the billet type flywheels being used in four wheel drives which are not suited to four wheel driving! as they do not dissipate heat like the original cast ORE flywheels do. Billet flywheels are designed for drag racing where they do a pass then park up and hopefully cool down enough! where as a four wheel will be towing large boats and caravans, thus have a heat factor for longer perio...ds of time. While on towing subject always refer to the Manafacturer manual as to towing procedures and gear selection requirements. I had to replace a second billet flywheel from a four wheel drive only last week and this one was worse then the first! one as you will see by the most dangerous crack evident in the first and second photographs. The third photo is the correctly machined flywheel being installed back to ORE specs!with a very good and smooth heavy duty clutch that I use,and have had good success with, two of such jobs have towed caravan around Aus which to date no complaints. 22.01.2022 You will notice the air filter on the left has rub marks on the bottom of the filter and is hollow, you will also notice the correct filter on the right is closed on what is designed to be the bottom. This filter is designed to be blanked at the bottom and sits not on the bottom as was case with the filter on the right, it sits high on a 30 mm button protruding up in air filter lower housing , this problem may well have been the reason this motor was already bored out to maximum oversize pistons due to engine dusting caused due to incorrect air filter being used thus no clean air entering the engine and was still like this up until I noticed the wear marks on the filter.

22.01.2022 Q What vehicle would I be working on if I need to get the new engine oil back into the engine within fifteen minutes maximum after draining???

21.01.2022 Whats wrong in this picture besides fact housing is half way off?

21.01.2022 When the owners manual says dont tow in fifth gear it means dont frigin tow in fifth gear. Unless you dont like ya car that is.

21.01.2022 Badly restricted diesel EGR,which causes loss of power was also cleaned after replacing and programming injectors with the use of my new G scan tool.

20.01.2022 What's wrong in this picture besides fact housing is half way off?

20.01.2022 Heres another failure, just waiting let go and overheat the engine, due to a sudden and total loss of coolant / radiator water. If this happen whist driving, you may or may not even notice the temp gauge rise!! should you have noticed this, and be monitoring the eng temp increase then begin to drop it is @ this point you need to stop the vehicle and have a look for obvious leaks or a smell of coolant. most people say I saw it cool down and thought it was all good!!!... Should you continue driving and the plastic elbow shown in video wiggle test had broken most to all coolant would be lost,(thus no water / coolant) around temp bulb / temp sender, (thus engine appears to be cooling down) & its about this time the damage begins to happen due to overheating. (Cooked engine)

20.01.2022 Arrived twenty years to late for this bad boy sadly a classic all the same and worthy of more.

19.01.2022 When the proof is 365000 kms well done! genuine Toyota original clutch theres simply no other option than to use genuine parts again back in the good ol girl.

18.01.2022 So bloody wrong and unsustainable and I'm no uni Guru.

17.01.2022 Take a close look at what happens when you dont service youre motor vehicles.

16.01.2022 Do it now if you havent already!! Hot digady dog Its warming up and you dont like working in the heat! Yeah no one does ,so dont push your luck and expect your vehicle to do it without some love and care. Prevention may cost! However trust what Im telling you its a dam side cheaper than a stuffed engine. If in doubt take five and check what a exchange engine is worth or at minimum how much a head job costs on what ever you drive.

15.01.2022 Cooling systems It’s coming up to that warm to hot time and the normal old overheated engine. This can be prevented as is the case with this job,by contacting you’re mech and having him go over the cooling system will cost but will also save a lot of heartache down the track.

14.01.2022 Simple example of why we use special tools,to avoid problems like this, where the rear main crankshaft cassette type seal, has been damaged by the use of a punch.

14.01.2022 A recent job with high fire risk. I recently went to a job reportedly requiring a fuel pump replacement. On arrival got into the job as had new fuel pump in van so get in get done n get out wrong. On removal of the terminal block I noticed it had been badly melted and was stuffed so rang the dealer in search of a new connector. Luckily the parts fella was on to and and ran a check on the Vin and sure as eggs there was a recall hanging over this particular vehicle still ou...tstanding recall. If you purchase a vehicle please fill out the change of ownership slip and or contact the manufacturer and advise them as well as ask if there is any outstanding campaigns. Fortunately this story is a lucky one in that the owner had ticked all the boxes only had not presented the car to the dealer and the pump had only failed and car didnt burn. See more

13.01.2022 Rubber elbow is of a VY commodore with gas elbow goes to throttle body (Right photo) which obviously has not been looked at for some time going by condition of cracks in the elbow and scubba build up on throttle body. Sadly the elbow and heater hoses are non original due to gas mods and not a stock item. Unfortunately these are some of the issues coming up quite a bit as some of the early 2000 cars are ageing.

13.01.2022 Hello well its been some time and a lot of jobs since my last post as Im being reminded. Photo one is a Hilux rear wheel bearing which was leaking diff oil all over the brakes and wheel area which had been repaired previously and damaged thus the bad oil leak. Photo 2 is of the bearing retainer / oil seal ring that allowed the oil to bypass in between the axle and retainer interface. Photo three is a timing belt which was almost due for (odometer) 150000 kms replacement,ho...wever developed a noise due mainly to dust & iron ore ingress dust in it past life. note there is roughly twenty belt segments already gone! and this one was about to fail and cause catastrophic engine damage. Luckily this customer dodged a bullet on this one. Bullfrogs I have another case coming up which wasnt so lucky and will try post some more info on this case as time permits. Thanks for reading and have a great day. Brian See more

13.01.2022 Not wanting to be a salesman here but this photo is a classic statement, use two fingers and have a close up!! Good quality coolants and oils do save in the long term.

13.01.2022 Old pickys from Kambalda days 1990 how underground workers got to and from work down at long shaft Otter and Lanfranchie. That's a starter which would have failed only due to the lug studs almost corroded away, unfortunately cleanliness is not of the utmost importance and even if it was it just doesn't happen romantics you just can't have all the time thank goodness for Toyota toughness.

13.01.2022 Hey all the first photo is up amongst the worst I have seen ,and is actually the front brake disc on a x miner which had separated in the centre of the disc as well as worn through the disc face. The second is water and foreign matter in diesel, and shows the importance of a good fuel cap and seals not to mention keeping filler nozzles and area clean. Otherwise you will be up for expensive repair bills if this goes undetected.

13.01.2022 So bloody wrong and unsustainable and Im no uni Guru.

11.01.2022 Dirty diesel done cheap. This hopefully ends well! Little things like keeping fuel filler area clean and not using dirty fuel containers can reduce this risk. Notice the fuel cap also the debris which came from base of filter housing.

11.01.2022 When the owners manual says don’t tow in fifth gear it means don’t frigin tow in fifth gear. Unless you don’t like ya car that is.

10.01.2022 Problems like this caught early enough can save thousands of dollars as in this case. This van has done only 43000 kms ,all I can say here is it's bloody lucky they believe in regular servicing. This is the intake to the turbo on the clean air side which has broken away from the air filter housing.

09.01.2022 Had to replace a ABS sensor on a VDJ cruiser again which in this case was chewed by the owners dog / S. Something out of the norm was needed so this guard was made and will also stop those pesky scrub pulls when out bush also.

09.01.2022 Misconceptions cleared pretty simple!!

09.01.2022 Merry Xmas to all and a safe and happy new year. Drive / ride safe stay shiny side up and out of bingles.

08.01.2022 Dirty Rats Are always looking for a nice place to sleep which the car engine bays offer great spot to camp when its cold, the engine offers a heated home with food and water ( washer bottles & hoses) and food appears to be insulation in wiring harnesses. If possible try & keep food for birds horses cattle and sheep away from where you garage your car unless you like to end up with breakdowns and expensive repair bills. See photo of rat chewed wire photo # 1which is hidden under the black cover photo # 3 My Brother had a trip to Mt Augustus interrupted for a time until he tracked down where the dirty rats had need feeding about twelve months back.

08.01.2022 Badly blocked intake job on a Prado, and a nice rewarding job just to hear the difference and feel the performance on completion.

08.01.2022 Do it now if you haven't already!! Hot digady dog It's warming up and you don't like working in the heat! Yeah no one does ,so don't push your luck and expect your vehicle to do it without some love and care. Prevention may cost! However trust what I'm telling you it's a dam side cheaper than a stuffed engine. If in doubt take five and check what a exchange engine is worth or at minimum how much a head job costs on what ever you drive.

06.01.2022 Recently I have had vehicles coming in with minimal engine oil in the engine (no oil whatsoever showing on the dipstick) which is consistent with the lower viscosity oils used in today's motor vehicles, and is more prevalent in the warmer months and higher kilometre vehicles. I'm finding the common denominator is oh no body told me or showed me !!how to check my oil and water. Sadly this is a sign of the times as once we used to go out on the driveways of service stations and provide this service and have a chat. If in doubt chat to your mechanic,or give me a bell if not sure, how to go about as it can save you big bucks.

06.01.2022 Neglected coolant issues again, this is one of my favourite vehicles a 2000 ln167 Hilux timing cover coolant inlet. Normally not a problem if folk use genuine coolant. To replace timing cover is a major job, the actual timing cover is close to $1000.00 bucks Never mind the labour cost associated Thus the repair method chosen.

05.01.2022 Dogs in cars are a hazard and can create a real safety risk,as per photo just beware as you may not even know old mates been having a bit of a chew.

05.01.2022 Just a couple of picks from this last week showing some basic however detrimental issues. Already I have been out to one fatal stuff up this summer, caused by a cooling system !! leak which could have been sorted out in the hundreds of $ however went up into the thousands of $$&$$ as the engine was a diesel and was stuffed.

04.01.2022 Choked up EGR and inlet issues with modern Diesel engines this one will love the oil separator kit by Direction Plus.

03.01.2022 These pickys show turbo compressor wheel damaged due to dirt hitting the leading edge, you can see where I scraped the dirt particles in the induction tube prior to cleaning it all out. As far as the brake pads well that's down to absolute min.

02.01.2022 Taking a steak to the restaurant and asking the chef to cook it for you beware. Some years back Castrol ran a advertisement saying oils ain't oils which is so true with today's modern engines and emission systems fitted to such engines. I had a job today where the customer wanted to supply his own oil so I looked at the oil prior to just tipping it in and checked my device schedule specifications only to find yes oil supplied was in fact incorrect for the vehicle at which point the customer was notified. Sadly for customer the damage will have been done already,as who knows how long this has been going on. Please always check and get the correct oil for your make and model. If in doubt check your owners manual and if you can't please give me a call or shoot me a message and I will check my Bible.

01.01.2022 Its been a while since I put anything up here just like its been a while since this tractor had some loving. The large photo is looking in through the filler neck and what you can sort of see is the badly rusted bottom of the steel tank. Next one is awfully sick and dirty diesel fuel filter which was secondary to the fuel cock which would normally have stopped a lot of contamination getting to the fuel filter, however it had been dislodged and the fuel cock was chock a bl...ock with dirt rust and crap. Remedy was to clean tank out replace fuel gauze strainer, filter then dose tank with Proma DT5 which allows and water droplets to be mixed in and burnt off! and also puts a liner on the fuel tank,to prevent rusty tanks!!only thing I hope for is it not to late in this instance. I have been finding to many dirty fuel issues recently including the ol fuel bug contamination. See more
