06.01.2022 Dr Kar Mun Chan had a massive day recently with Bobby Ghaheri MD and Lisa Urich Lahey, at Untangling Ankyloglossia course event in Melbourne! When we asked what was one thing she has taken away to assist her patients this was her response... " Bobby had one whole lecture on breastfeeding mechanics and showing us ultrasounds of infant feeding - what is good function and what is dysfunction of the tongue when feeding. Makes a lot of sense when there is tongue restriction, then... the function cannot be optimal but was really good to see it in an ultrasound. I very much agree that the patient's function needs to be assessed by a feeding consultant (for infants) and speech therapist (for children) to confirm and validate there is dysfunction first, prior to considering surgical intervention. A team approach is so important for holistic care. Management of tongue restriction and dysfunction cannot only rely on surgery alone. Some pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery retraining is as important as the surgery itself" Have any more questions ? we are here to help
