25.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone. It is with great regret the we have decided to cancel this years Anzac Day to be held in Lawson. In consultation with Blue Mountains City Council and other organisations we have been left no other option but to cancel both the Dawn service and the Main march and service on the 25th April 2020. If throughout the day you feel you wish to pay your respects by by laying of wreaths or flowers then by all means do so at your own discretion. Just remember t...o do so in very small groups. Please remember to keep your personal hygiene and personal separation regimes as required. Please stay safe during this time and we wish you all good health. Again we are sorry about this. Many thanks. Simon.Manwaring Vice President Lawson Combined Services Club.

18.01.2022 While working on Anzac Day recordings from home, we hit record on something a bit more upbeat and positive to help lift the spirits. This is 'You're The Voice' ...by Australian legend John Farnham. It was recorded with all band members separated by social isolation restrictions, including while on operational deployment, working for essential services, or caring for family at home. Vocals: CPL Elizabeth Smith Video: MUSN Malcolm Ramsay Audio: MUSN Richard Coward Arrangement: CPL Ben North See more

09.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 was very different to past years. The following images are from the morning.

06.01.2022 Hi everyone. We had 42 people attend the service yesterday in a covid safe way. Thanks to evetyone who attended. Special mention to Lawson pree school for attending from across the road.

05.01.2022 A very special recording by John Schumann and the Australian Army Band performing "I Was Only 19." The clip was a PTSD15 and Stand Tall initiative produced in ...conjunction with John himself. Stand Tall are currently planning the most definitive conference on PTSD in global history (PTD20), to be held in Brisbane in August 2020. Details forthcoming. 05.01.2022 https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2089755/ On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemet...eries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard. Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals. A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London. He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey. The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin. It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son... THIS is the reason we wear poppies. We do not glorify war. We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted. Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior. Hope you found the truth about the Unknown Warrior and the reason we wear poppies on Remembrance Day, informative and interesting. As a former member of the British Army I look forward to Remembrance Day back in Hereford this year, also the Centennial; One hundred years since Armistice. I’m currently working twenty hour days writing screenplays for films I produce, and act in, to ensure they’re completed on time; Enabling me to spend more time in England on this special occasion. I don’t even have enough time to look at my Philip Ettington updates on Google. I’m sure I’ll make it back to England on time. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

04.01.2022 at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns finally fell silent to end the war to end all wars. Lest we forget

03.01.2022 Thanks to Aundrie for redoing our lettering in the Lawson Memorial Arch.

02.01.2022 On this day 102 years ago these troopers had no idea that the fight they were approaching would go down as one of our finest hours. They were soon to take part ...in the Charge at Beersheba. Their feat of courage, daring and determination etched the name of the Australian Light Horsemen and their gallant remounts into military history forever. Today and always we remember them. 'Lest We Forget'
