25.01.2022 Its great to see innovative, low cost solutions for employees during this time.

25.01.2022 Three years ago today I left my husband. Henry was just over one. Since then I have experienced homelessness, depression, the death of my dad, personal legal battles. I have lost countless friends and transitioned through many jobs. What I didnt know is that when I chose to be empowered in my home life, through all of the risk that comes from that, this empowerment would transition to all parts of my life.... No, I am not perfect. But I am authentically myself and I will never stand by abusive behaviour verbal, physical, emotional, sexual or otherwise whether in my home, my workplace, my social circle or my community. I am a happy positive person but I am not afraid to call out behaviour when it needs to be done. Join me. Lets make this profession the space it should be.

25.01.2022 If you’re a lawyer with a formal diagnosis of depression, that has taken positive steps to deal with your depression and balance your career: I would love to have you as a guest on my podcast. Please DM me! #mentalhealth #lawyers #australianlawyers

23.01.2022 Episode 6 is up! In this episode of The Lawyering Podcast I had the opportunity to hear from Kate Clark and Tanisha Watt, a mentoring pair from Clark Mediation. My son also makes a very brief guest appearance in the introduction ... In the weeks to come, I will be sharing more beautiful stories like this. I will also be highlighting the voices of people that need to be heard. In this episode, Kate, Tanisha and I talk about: Giving back to the legal community by becoming a mentor. Kates recent webinars on topics such as health and welling, training your brain and leadership. Upcoming projects for Kate. Instilling a sense of hope and focusing on goals is Kates philosophy at Clark Mediation. Tanisha shares how she connected with, and chose, Kate Clark. Tanisha is completing her PLT with Kate and started right before the pandemic. The letter from Tanisha that caught the attention of Kate. Tanishas advice for students looking for a mentor. The importance of researching a mentor who shares your values. Kates advice to students starting out in the law. The graduate pressure of the first job being the right job. Kates dream for the future of the law as a profession. Disparity between men and women in law. The co-learning benefits that can come from a mentoring relationship. These two are a beautiful example of what the legal profession can and should be. #legalprofession #lawleaders #kindness #seachange #mentoring

23.01.2022 This is the story behind #myshoes. The people from my old life don’t like it when I talk about being a survivor of domestic and family violence. Because I was married to a good man and my voice shatters the infallibility of the #notallmen wall. Back in 2016, these shoes were my first ever self initiated purchase. They were $200 and even though I had $6,000 in my bank account of money I had earned myself I had a panic attack on the way home (don’t worry an angel was driving... me). I had a panic attack because these shoes were my choice- without authorisation. And I was terrified. No matter how many scuff marks these shoes get I wear them with pride. Because they are mine and I earned them. Lawyers experience domestic violence too. I am vulnerable I am strong I am worthy #strength #domesticviolence

22.01.2022 "To be brave is to seek a career with purpose and balance which is based on connection, humanness and vulnerability. As a lawyer you can be both [hard-working] and intelligent, extraordinary and kind. It is the combination of all of these things that will lead to fulfilment for each of us". Read more below

07.01.2022 Episode 2 My story of unemployment, homelessness and hope. In the last few weeks, many of my colleagues have lost their jobs or have been stood down from their roles. In this episode of The Lawyering Podcast, I share with you my story of unemployment, homelessness and hope.... Three years ago I was married to my husband. We had a child. At the time I was working at a law firm: I was driven, but parenthood, the sometimes unrealistic demands of private practice, and the breakdown of my marriage culminated to cause me to suffer burn out, which ultimately led to depression. 05.01.2022 SEASON TWO IS HERE In this episode of The Lawyering Podcast, we have the opportunity to hear from Katie Gray. Katie is the founder of Principals of Practice, a professional development and executive coaching service, based in New Zealand. Katie had grown her career in the most impressive way and was interviewing for a very impressive promotion when she decided to engage a coach to help her. This experience changed her perspective of leadership in the law, so much so that... she is now a coach herself. In this episode we talk about: Katie started her career as a banking and finance lawyer and fell in love with law. During her successful 16 year career with Herbert Smith Freehills, Katie led teams and advised on complex financing transactions, all while working across three different continents. Working long hours in banking and finance Katie started her family. While on maternity leave Katie realised her passion for law and leadership. During a training program to make partner, Katie discovered some surprising habits which she was not aware of. Her leadership training showed the value of self-evaluation and changing your approach to leadership. While applying for Partner, Katie engaged a Coach and the experience helped so much that she eventually decided to step out on her own and starting a coaching business. Katie now coaches’ lawyers in career progression and change in their careers though Principals of Practice. Katie sees her role in coaching as the railing allowing others to walk along their own path In her sessions, Katie encourages lawyers to question some of the beliefs they have held over their careers. Knowing when a coach could push you to the next level in your career. Ask yourself ‘What is getting in the way of taking ownership in my career?’ and action these items. Katie is a powerful reminder to us all that guidance and support at the right time in our careers can make a huge difference to our wellbeing, and success (whatever that means to you).
