23.01.2022 HV truck wash on Thelangerin Road, Hay NSW now open!

23.01.2022 In this weeks LBRCA member news we hear from member Garry Todd and local Dubbo resident and campaigner Karina McLachlain about why the "Stop River Street Bridge" campaign is critical to the freight industry. https://www.vision6.com.au/em/message/email/view.php

22.01.2022 RECOGNISING THE BRAND NEW NARRANDERA TRUCK WASH Please tag anyone you know involved in the rural road freight industry to help get the word out: compan...ies and drivers! We now have 3 new dedicated Truck Washes in the Cootamundra Electorate, which have all opened in the past 18 months: COOTAMUNDRA SALEYARDS - $334,382 COWRA SALEYARDS - $189,750 NARRANDERA STOCK & BITUMEN - $750,000 TOTAL VALUE = $1,274,132 A few days ago I joined Mayor Neville Kschenka, Paul Pulver and Dianne Peisley from the Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association to officially open the Narrandera Truck Wash. We were also joined by other really great people including project manager Noel Crichton and Councillors from Narrandera Shire Council to celebrate the completion of this fantastic facility. This is a $750,000 project, made possible with significant financial contribution from the NSW Governments Fixing Country Truck Wash Program. The site located on McGilvray Road at the Red Hill Industrial Estate. It provides for: Washing stock floats (up to B-Triple length) A dedicated bitumen wash bay with sprayers and associated equipment Truck washes like these mean: Improved disease control and reduction of effluent spillage Less travel distance for drivers to carry out the necessary biosecurity hazard reduction - saving drivers and companies time and money Truck drivers may also choose to utilise other services in Narrandera, thereby supporting the local economy These stock washes are part of the National Country Truck Wash network which includes more than 100 similar facilities in the eastern states, all of which can be accessed with the same electronic keying system which is available for use 24 hours seven days a week. Today in the NSW Parliament, I moved a motion expressing how much this new facility means to the local community of Narrandera and the wider heavy vehicle industry. I hope I get the chance to speak to the motion in full. Finally, sending a huge shout out to Noel Crichton who managed the project and Di Piesley for her guidance. Also local company Menz Plant for their work. Sx

20.01.2022 Meet Matthew Benseman, one of 4 finalists in the running for the title of SafeWork NSW 2021 Young Driver of the Year. Mathew is 33 years of age and lives in Westdale in Tamworth NSW. He started working for Maloney Livestock Transport in 2018 following successful driving stints with Woods Transport and Stockmaster. Mathew owes a great deal to Mick and Carolyn Maloney saying that they have been the two people that have contributed a large amount of personal effort and trust... to get him where he is today, including behind the wheel of a brand-new truck late last year. He is well-respected for understanding the value of maintaining safety standards relating to the well-being of stock he is carrying. Director of Maloney Livestock Transport Mick Maloney says Mathew has a good habit of looking at the big picture, is an excellent employee with a no fuss approach to his work. The winner will be announced on Saturday 6 March in Dubbo! Good luck Mathew!

17.01.2022 NSW is smashing through their road spending initiatives -

17.01.2022 COVID-19 testing for freight operators heading to South Australia are NO longer required ...

16.01.2022 NEW BORDER CONTROLS FOR NSW / VIC The last 24 hours has been a whirlwind of confusing statements about how freight (critical services) will go about crossing the NSW/VIC border. Late last night, and despite assurances from government that freight would not be impacted by the closure, the government has introduced a mandatory permit process for everyone crossing the border including freight vehicles.... Freight and logistics is defined as a critical service and people carrying out critical services can cross the border from Victoria into NSW Critical service workers, including truck drivers, are required to apply for an entry permit and carry it with them Entry permits will be valid for 14 days at a time. You should carry any supporting evidence associated with your travel when crossing the border. You may be allowed into NSW if you have supporting evidence but have not been able to get a permit, however this is not guaranteed. Of the NSW / Vic border crossings, six have been prioritised as main crossings. These are: Wodonga Place, South Albury Hume Hwy, South Albury Cobb Hwy, Moama Newell Hwy, Tocumwal Sturt Hwy, Buronga Princes Hwy, Tambillica Members reported last night that the permit asks what address you will be staying while in NSW. For interstate truck drivers if you plan to pull over and rest in a specific area you can enter the address of the rest stop for this purpose (you can enter it manually if that. Need support with completing your permit. Call the LBRCA Secretariat on 02 6295 6651 and Bec or Carly will be able to assist you. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//apply-covid-19-nsw-border-

15.01.2022 Meet Will, one of our 4 finalists in the running for the title of SafeWork NSW 2021 Young Driver of the Year. William O’Neill (Will for short) is 34 years of age and lives in Moonbi. He kicked off his career in the heavy vehicle industry when his former employer assisted him to gain his MC licence he even paid for it too which was far too good of an offer for Will not to commit to becoming a professional truck driver. Following a stint carting coal between Tarrawonga ...NSW and Gunnedah, Will was offered an opportunity to cart livestock for Cavanagh’s Transport based in Tamworth. Will says that he had always wanted to give livestock transport a go but never expected it to happen since most jobs required a minimum of two years’ experience. However, fast forward 5 years to now. Will has an untainted safety record, is well-respected for his good lateral thinking and professional approach to the livestock transport task and is a very valued employee according to his employer Robert Cavanagh. The winner will be announced on Saturday 6 March in Dubbo. Good luck Will!!

15.01.2022 ** NSW / Victoria border closure ** To help contain the spread of COVID-19, the temporary closure of the NSW/Victorian border will come into effect from 12.01am Wednesday 8 July. Special conditions will be in place for freight operations and logistics as well as other critical services. Further information on the arrangements for the freight industry will be published on the Transport for NSW freight coronavirus page as they become available and communicated to the freight industry. https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au//transport-for-nsw-respon

15.01.2022 ** JUST IN ** The Federal Government today introduced a new Protocol for Domestic Border Controls for Freight Movements, aiming to streamline border movements / conditions for essential freight movements. "Unanticipated delays at the border can have implications for safety on the roads and the health of critical transport workers. Heavy vehicle drivers are required by law to take regular breaks at set intervals to manage fatigue. Long delays at borders can result in either... freight not meeting critical timeframes, or drivers breaching their mandated fatigue requirements, which can result in road accidents or mental health and other health impacts on workers. Requiring quarantine or self-isolation of freight workers who travel for their work could have a dramatic impact on freight movement through key corridors." https://www.infrastructure.gov.au//protocol-for-domestic-b

05.01.2022 ******* Asymptomatic COVID19 testing in Victoria for truck drivers available from Private Pathology labs and do not have to self isolate whilst waiting for re...sults ********************** Thanks to Peter Anderson from Victorian Transport Association for their advocacy and for letting us know the following information. We also thank Minister Ben Carroll MP for his office discussing these issues with LRTAV and helping create a good solution. "The Victorian Government has changed its guidance to allow essential heavy vehicle drivers to get tested for coronavirus irrespective of whether they have symptoms. This change has come about after many meetings and discussions over the past week to ensure there is as much uniformity as possible across Australia when it comes to border crossing requirements. The guidance means that freight operators and employers of drivers can organise private asymptomatic COVID-19 testing at private pathology laboratories. Most importantly, drivers who are asymptomatic and have their tests through a private laboratory are not required to self-isolate while waiting for their results. The guidance means that freight operators in Victoria are now able to comply with requirements in South Australia for COVID testing every seven days as a condition of being granted a border crossing permit. The VTA has requested a list of the private laboratories from the Victorian Government where testing is available. The Department of Health advises the test does not require a referral from a medical practitioner and that it will be bulk-billed through Medicare." You will need to contact your local private pathology service. Medicare Information Sheet, now includes tests for truck drivers http://www.mbsonline.gov.au///Content/Factsheet-Item-69501 Victorian Govt Transport Update 21st August 2020 - states that "Drivers who are asymptomatic and have their tests through a private laboratory are NOT required to self-isolate while waiting for their results." https://transport.vic.gov.au//freight-and-logistics-indust

01.01.2022 NSW / VIC BORDER UPDATE AND SELF-ISOLATION RULE REMOVAL After reviewing the criteria for critical services permits yesterday, NSW will be creating an additional permit, to better support critical workers in the Freight and Transport sector and to clarify terms and conditions. This permit will allow people within the freight and transport industry to be able to travel between NSW and Victoria for the purpose of their duties, providing their employer has a COVID-19 Safety Plan ...and WILL NOT REQUIRE them to SELF-ISOLATE. The NSW Government has commenced the development of the new permit, which will be live through Service NSW by close of business today, Thursday 9 July. COVID-Safe plans and guidelines to assist the industry are also available to align with this additional permit at nsw.gov.au/covid/covid-safe-businesses. In the meantime, Freight and Transport workers will still require the current critical services permit to enter NSW, but will not be held to account for any form of self-isolation. We are working to ensure the smooth facilitation of this change over the next 24 hours. Consistent with the need to prepare a COVID-19 Safety Plan, Transport for NSW is asking freight operators to be conscious of the significantly increased health risk in Victoria, to please take extra care and ensure that you are vigilant in practising physical distancing, minimising contact and maintaining good hygiene practices to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. Any employees displaying symptoms of COVID-19 should not be required to come to work. While all efforts are being made to ensure freight moves as efficiently as possible, operators are encouraged to plan ahead as some delays may be experienced and to factor this into fatigue management plans. You can see the latest traffic information at https://www.livetraffic.com/.
