24.01.2022 We are half way through the Year 12 External Exams, and Formal is just around the corner! As with so much this year, COVID restrictions are having an impact on our traditional event, meaning some important changes for our community to be aware of: - Crowd size restrictions mean that we can only accommodate 2x invited spectators for each Year 12 student to see the arrivals - Invited spectators will be in 15minute viewing windows, able to stay and watch all students arriving ...in that window - To ensure that invited spectators are able to see their students arrive, it is vital that the general public are not taking spaces assigned to invited spectators - Unfortunately, this means that the general public are not able to gather and watch the arrivals this year We really appreciate the support and understanding of our community as we continue to work with Year 12s and celebrate their achievements as best we can in this strangest of years.

24.01.2022 Today marks the final day of external exams for our Year 12s, and therefore the end of academic commitments! Congratulations to our Year 12 cohort on their achievements throughout this most disrupted of years. We look forward to celebrating these achievements with our Year 12s and their guests (2x per student due to COVID restrictions) on Thursday at our Graduation Ceremony in the MPS. Invited guests should arrive via the Jensen St entrance from 8:30am, for a 9:00am start. Year 12 Graduands should be in the Hall, in full formal uniform, by 8:30am please.

19.01.2022 Every year at our Graduation ceremonies, we award two special awards that shine a spotlight on two Year 12 students with exceptional qualities. The first - the Phoenix - is awarded by the Principal to a student who has recreated themselves into a better version of themselves in their time at Lockyer. One of the many Lockyer success stories, recognising students who have "turned it around" to leave us with success and opportunities under their belt. The second - the Justin Cam...eron Memorial - is awarded by each Year 12 cohort to one of their own; a student who exemplifies the inspirational qualities, strength of character, and spirit, of former Lockyer student Justin Cameron who sadly passed away with cancer only weeks after graduating Year 12. At our 2020 Graduation ceremony this morning, it was wonderful to recognise the winners of these two awards - Chevez Hughes (Phoenix) and Elijah Jackson (Justin Cameron) - and their outstanding contributions to our school. We wish them both - and all of our graduating cohort - the very best for what comes next.

13.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day! Young people cannot be expected to fix someone’s problems, nor know the best way to help and support. However they can listen to what their friend is saying, let them know they care and tell a teacher, school support person or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. By promoting an environment of positive peer support and accessing support channels via an adult, young people can learn that asking, Are you OK? is a key life skill.... RUOK? have developed a fantastic resource to support school students to ask their mates RUOK? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4Db28pEGzQ&feature=youtu.be

10.01.2022 Ever wondered what a day in the life of Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Milligan might look like? Year 11 student Cindy Storey had the chance to find out! Her account of being Mayor for the day is below. Well done Cindy! The day began by heading over to Laidley with Mayor Tanya Milligan to attend media interviews addressing the previous COVID-19 case. Whilst in the area, we stopped at the Laidley Child Protection Week open day where counsellors made lanterns in order to... raise awareness. By the time we arrived back in Gatton it was time for lunch. Once we arrived back at the office I had a look around the chambers and took photos with Tanya. Then at 1:45pm we had a brief meeting with CEO Mr Ian Church about what was happening around the Valley. After that I was able to walk around the office and meet with some employees - they were all very kind and had an interest in my perspective. It was then 2:30pm when we had to rush back to the Mayor’s office to attend another meeting. We then ended the day with a Skype meeting concerning water storage in the Lockyer Valley. I am extremely grateful to have been given the day of shadowing the Mayor Tanya Milligan, she is such an inspiring woman and taught me countless skills, not only for leadership, but for life.

06.01.2022 8H has just finished their Visual Art unit. For this unit, students had to complete a mixed media self-portrait that showed not only their physical appearance, but also tapped into their personal identity. Some ways in which students communicated their identity was by including drawings or images of things they like, or text that described them. Students experimented with a range of media including graphite, coloured pencil and watercolour. They also experimented with techniques such as simplification, collage and realism. I'm sure you'll agree - the results are amazing!

02.01.2022 Only two sleeps to go until Athletics Carnival, and this year's Hacker's Challenge! Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, visitors and spectators for Friday’s Athletics Carnival will unfortunately not be permitted. This is consistent with our other sporting events in the current climate, and is an important part of how we are ensuring the safety of our students, staff and community in these uncertain times. Throughout the day, we will be taking regular video updates and atte...mpting to keep our community up to date via our social media here on Facebook and over on our YouTube channel. We encourage parents and carers to support our students through those avenues, rather than in person at this year’s Athletics Carnival. The big question is: will anyone catch Cunningham?!
