11.01.2022 To Clip or not to Clip? With summer almost upon us, you ponder with the thought, should I clip my double coated breed? You question yourself asking, surely, he/she will be much happier, cooler and shed less. This is not actually so! Dogs coats are designed to help them transition and manage the temperature changes that come with our four seasons, hence the variations within their coats you witness during these changes. As Winter nears their coats become thicker and dense...r as it insulates your pet against the cold. When Spring approaches the coat starts to shed as it prepares itself to cool your pet during the hot summer months. Double coated breeds such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Samoyeds to name just a few have double coats. With correct management and professional grooming, you should never have to clip to keep your dog healthy and comfortable. The top shiny coat is designed to protect your pet from the weather, bug and pest bites, debris, pollens etc. The thick undercoat is designed to insulate your dog by assisting with warming and cooling, this is the coat that is shed during the warmer months to make way for a lighter cooler summer coat. This is what you find your-self removing from your clothes and vacuuming every day, so that is does not take over your home. Simply cutting your dogs coat does not eliminate the shedding cycle it simply makes the hair shorter. The only way to eliminate and reduce the extra hair is by using the correct de-shedding technique and regular brushing. By doing this you will ensure your pets health and wellbeing are not compromised. At Le Bubbles and Bark we use quality De-Shedding products and procedures to ensure your pet returns to you clean, happy, smelling delightful and most importantly with little to no shedding coat.
