20.01.2022 Flying home soon, in the midst of uncertainty our lovely guests enjoying some exercise in the villa garden during isolation. Normally we get to know our guests quite well during during their stay, however given the circumstances we keep our distance as much as possible whilst providing a safe and clean place to call home before reuniting with family in a few days time . . #bali #balivilla #lockdown #exercise #socialdistancing #canggu #berawa #balicanggu #allinthistogether #missingbali #missingtravel #wewillbeherewhenthisisover #keepfaith #frombaliwithlove

18.01.2022 We could show you fancy photos of where we’d all rather be but hey, nobody is going anywhere for a while. So instead, we’ve decided to use this time to open up over the next few months and share our journey with you since we began in 2011. What is Leacott Retreats, or for that matter who? One thing is for sure, we’re passionate about travel. Passionate so, we put our whole hearts in to all we create in our villas. In fact Scott, an avid surfer, retired from a successful c...areer in the Police to travel between Bali and Adelaide to project manage the build of Playgrounds. Sounds like a dream life, right? . Crazy to think that 16 months ago, we were family of 3 with one on the way. Scott in Bali and me (Leanne) messaging a potential guest, whilst not feeling great. I recall sitting in the hospital, after arriving hours earlier in an ambulance. I’d been chatting to this guest all day without mention of the day’s events. We were discussing all their vacay plans and how our villa was perfect for her family. I was smiling, we love getting into detail with our guests. Whilst smiling I also remember impatiently wanting to get home, I’d missed school pick up and my car was still at the GP. Wanting to get back to other guests, do an Instagram or Facebook post as my gosh, I’d been so tired all week I hadn’t stayed on top of that! I was perplexed when I overheard the Doctor say something like that’s impossible she would be dead; I’ve seen her walking around and she seems fine. Poor girl I thought, she wants to go home, so I went back to chatting to our guest. Next minute, I am helped by another lovely Doctor who had reviewed my bloods, she was going to test me herself and then I could be on my way. Great, I can finally do this quote for our guest and start planning her getaway. Fast forward an hour and I am in ICU where I’ll be accommodated for the next few days. Hmm, perhaps I should have paid more attention the last few hours! I hope someone can bring me a charger. . I’ll end this opening snippet of our lives with a quote by Jim Rohn Do a job that you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. More to share soon, stay safe all xx @ Bali See more

17.01.2022 Can’t be there but we can still browse our favourite local shop from afar... and add some wonderful pieces when we are back #bali @bungalowlivingbali #playgroundsvilla #canggu

17.01.2022 Within 12 months of opening Leacott Retreats in Bali, we expanded with a second villa in Canggu The Summer House. We found this shell of a villa through Wayan our driver, it was the perfect location being walking distance to Berawa Beach and Canggu Deli and across from the village temple. There was a new hotel being built across the road, now known as LV8 Resort. Setting up The Summer House was even more fun than Mayana, as we were able to bring it to life from scratch and ...ordered all order customised interior artwork from our favourite artist at Sanur Markets, Gede Sukanada . We also recall ordering a large limestone piece for outside that needed to be installed, it was so heavy nobody could lift it. That day we were interviewing a bunch of drivers as for the new role at this villa, in came Made James, who I likened to Bali’s version of The Rock, who nearly lifted the thing himself. Needless to say he was hired! Canggu, or specifically Berawa where we were located was now getting busier, with the waterpark at the Canggu Club (now known as Finns Rec Club ) and new restaurants popping up all the time, hard to believe when you now drive down Pantai Berawa and see so much to choose from. I remember my favourite entree of all during this time was the Tomino Allo Speck from Trattoria at Canggu Plaza. This bacon wrapped mozzarella ball was probably had too many times, but was too good to say no! We have great memories of The Summer House, it was the perfect addition to our collection and brought us our new team members, Made James and our always smiling Villa Supervisor Budi. Our team and our villas seemed to resonate with you all, as we have had many of you return, some we first met as solo travellers to now busy lives married with kids! @madejamesskb @budiwartini #berawa #bali @lveight #behindthebrand #thesummerhouse #privatevillabali #balivillas @ Berawa Canggu,Bali

16.01.2022 As soon as we walked through the doors, we knew this was the villa. Unique architecture, we could do a few quick renovations for that WOW factor Here opened our first Leacott Retreats villa in Canggu. Hiring lovely housekeepers and introducing something new many others didn’t offer at the time; a fulltime driver included every day. Interestingly, within 12 months almost everyone started doing this! We were all set to launch. Then literally as we were ready to open our d...oors, a little surprise came. We would be having our first child, a baby girl! Delighted yet nervous, this would all come the same year I dumped my career for a big pause, whilst we threw a whole heap of cash to an overseas dream (investment). It must have been the year for turning ideas in to action. Whilst launching, a colleague emailed me an article, his email titled you sure this isn’t you?. It wasn’t. But boy, there were similarities in our stories and we were both from Adelaide. The article was about Zoe from Bliss Sanctuary. Shortly after, I had the pleasure of a lunch date (newborn in tow) with a friend and ex-colleague to meet her bestie and share our Bali story. Her bestie was also looking to set up a villa in Bali so what an ideal time to meet. Turns out this would be the bubbly Anna, who since opened Saudara Villas Bali in 2012 with her brother (hence the name Saudara = Indonesian for sibling!). One of our current staff Gede was security and gardening at the villa complex where our first villa was situated. He’d always wanted to learn more English (he could barely speak a word but had the most friendly smile and nature) and to learn housekeeping. It’s so rewarding that all these years later he is again part of our Leacott Retreats team, but is now fluent in English and doing housekeeping, gardening, pool cleaning, maintenance and as a bonus without prompting, learned how to mix cocktails for our guests, watching the every move of our existing bar staff. What a trooper! Our first villa, Leacott Retreats "Mayana" came at the pre-Canggu boom, and we loved it being so different from Kuta. We were doing our dream and loving the connection with guests - I mean who doesn’t love talking holidays? #ourstory #whereitbegan #leacottretreats #balivilla #bali #behindthebrand #dothedream #whereitbegan

10.01.2022 Wishing you all a blessed Easter from our unusually quiet villa in Bali We are all adapting as best as we can, our team are isolating as much as possible and many have returned to their family villages ~ such as our friend Wayan + family, who many of you remember from our days beginning out in Bali with our first villa when he was our one and only full time driver. Humbling to see his son and nephew smiling and enjoying their time in the village, so different to living in <...what was> bustling Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta and surrounds. We will travel again, and we hope when you return to stay with us you can also come and see some of these beautiful places outside of the tourist hub. When that time comes, we’re ready to welcome you #togetherapart #bali #kintamani #villagelife #oldbali #realbali #thankful #humble #easter #keepfaith #togetherwerise #ricefield #baliindonesia #toflyagain @ Desa Sukawana,Kintamani,Bangli. 10.01.2022 Aussie beach days whilst we can’t be in our beloved #bali Things we have learnt through this isolation and social distancing: - learning to be more digital (we are working from home in our real jobs as much as we can. - visits to Nanna can still happen with the kids waving behind the fence #nohugs #agedcare .... - our team are more than capable of continuing to run the villa without us there. - our team are adapting and being very understanding to reduced work hours and income, which was so very difficult to make a decision on. - little acts of kindness we are seeing everywhere, and a real vibe of helping each other out. - how wonderful our guests are in being understanding and patient whilst we assessed what impact COVID-19 really has on our business (and day care, and working from home and school life) #survivalmode This picture was yesterday at our local beach in Adelaide, so thankful we can still walk the dog and head out for fresh air. The beach is a beautiful place where we get time to reflect, be thankful and in fact most of our ideas come from #beachdays Stay safe everyone from Australia and Bali with love + good blessings to you all #bethankful #creation #thiswillpass #godhasgoodplans

09.01.2022 As I woke this morning earlier than I wanted, to my finger being bitten off by Riley,my teething 1 year old after another night of broken sleep, I was thankful. Squished him for some cuddles and thought these moments are soon gone before we know it. I was then greeted by the biggest hugs and wonderful handmade loving gifts from my first born Amber who made me my favourite meal (drink) of the day = coffee. Whilst the last few weeks have been extra challenging in so many aspec...ts they’ve also been more rewarding with more family time than we’ve had in years. No flying between Adelaide and Perth for my work, timed with the weeks of the month Scott wouldn’t be in Bali. No school for six weeks. Learning TikTok dances with Amber, daily family walks and games of bingo and uno. I’m truly blessed with an incredible loving family and the biggest super hero of all, my mum. Today will be spent with a visit to Granny and Nanna. Thankful we still have the ability to see them and we’re all so close. This picture is a collection of not only our family but our team’s family in Bali. Our drivers wonderful wives and mums, our villa staff who are mums themselves or for the boys their beautiful wives and children. Happy Mother’s Day to you all, whatever you do today you’re all super special! X See more

05.01.2022 Through out this crisis it's been evident the struggle many are facing. We've been touched by stories from our guests, and of the impact in Bali, both to businesses and the Balinese who have no social security, job keeper or job seeker payments and no hope of tourism returning for some time. Through this time we have come across so many wonderful businesses and just general good people who are helping out. We know some of you have been wondering how you can help families in... Bali struggling with no income, for the foreseeable future. Loss of jobs and a change in the way of living, returning to home villages to live off the land and help each other out. Here are some of the generous people raising funds to also help those in need, so humbling the community support that is occurring now in Bali and the sheer thankfulness of everyone that's been assisted. Some are doing essential food packs to supplying free nutritious cooked meals each day - free! Crisis Kitchen Bali Island Graze Saudara Villas Bali via The Bali Food Project Bali Children Foundation Sea Circus Bali Bali Animal Welfare Association (Can't forget the animals too!) Note these are just a few, Banjars (village councils) are also helping support those in need how they can. We all pay the Banjar a monthly fee, and additional donations are also being collected so they can help those in need. 02.01.2022 Turquoise waters, stunning white sand beaches, year round warmth, endless surf breaks and luxury resorts. The year 2011 saw my 31st birthday celebrated at Kandooma Resort, Maldives. This was not our first time to probably one of our absolute favourite places on Earth, but what would make this one different was the idea of turning our love for travel into something more than an expensive hobby. . We’d travelled all through Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Vietnam, Indonesia, Vanuat...u and visited my homeland Ireland and accustomed Scott in true (Dublin style) Irish culture attending several family weddings which he not only survived but enjoyed immensely. The Maldives provided a different pace to life, a much-needed break from the 7-day weeks and shift work, our fast-paced go-go-go life that we’d been treating as normal was burning us out. It was here in the Maldives, at Kandooma Resort, over many cocktails and stunning sunsets, that the idea of running something small scale, holiday focused popped into our heads. We knew what we liked, and whilst we would love to do something wonderful in the Maldives itself, the next best place we could think of that was not only more accessible but similar in environment, culture and popularity, was Bali, Indonesia. . From this trip on, any spare moment we had were spent researching properties, tax laws, talking with agents, searching through endless forums for advice and preparing to start our journey. By August 2011 we had our plan pretty much sorted, but no property found. We had a budget and a dream, so excitedly set off on a 4 day exploration trip, staying at Khayangan Dreams in Seminyak to hopefully find that one perfect place we could open as the first Leacott Retreats villa in Bali. . Don’t dream it, do it! ... so we did! @ Maldives See more

01.01.2022 Hooray for the weekend! Who’s going anywhere special (we mean warm)? Nope, us neither. As winter sets in this is usually the time we are most definitely off to Bali. If you’re in Queensland, 22 and sunny looks like a holiday right now to us! Reminiscing gives us the holiday blues, missing the fun holiday countdown to the next trip (all say ahhh..) On the other hand, it’s been a great time for reflection on what staying with us looks like, why we do this little family busine...ss, and who we do it for. The answer = YOU (ok us too, but mostly you.. what’s good for the geese they say). After opening The Summer House we departed from Mayana Villa and opened another 4 villas; SUNHAVEN and the OASiS complex being VILLA SEA, VILLA SALT + VILLA SAND. It wasn’t until we saw how rapidly Bali travel was booming (everyone seemed to know someone that was in Bali, moving to Bali or had a friend with a villa in Bali). Plus, we learnt the impact travel personally had on keeping our sanity with young children in tow (where’s the bar). With all this we started to re-think what it is we were offering (no not a bar). Highlighting our villas to holiday makers was becoming harder, there were so many to choose from. We also found it frustrating providing child friendly items, yet Bali villas were not designed and equipped to be family friendly - an increasing demand from our customers and making the must have list to our own family getaways. With a heavy heart at the start of 2015 we decided it was time to take a pause, sit back and really think about what a great holiday feels like and how we’d package that into a villa. We’d put everything into our villa that goes with those thoughts and feelings we all have in looking forward to our getaways. Sun, cocktails, happy kids with plenty of things to do, happy parents being able to take a break from 24/7 parenting, cocktails, more sun, babysitters, good food, lots of space, plus the essential housekeeping daily we’re not travelling to make beds and clean dishes. We want people to feel like they are at their own private resort & meet the needs of everyone from 1-100 years old so this our friends is how PLAYGROUNDS came to life! @ Bali
