25.01.2022 In a culture and environment awash with disposable plastic objects, what is there to celebrate about jewellery composed of synthetic materials? Is it possible for contemporary jewellery made from a material associated with environmental degredation and mass-produced junk, to tell new stories that enrich?

11.01.2022 On summer holiday in 2010, I was reading about Explores of the Egyptian Nile in the mid 1800s. Cruising down the Nile was the Great Victorian Adventure the thing to do if you were an aristocrat with a taste for the fashionable Orient. I was particularly interested in the writings of Lady Explorers society women of independent means and minds who travelled around Egypt with entourages, exploring, collecting and painting. From the beach and surrounding bushland I gathered what was around me, twisting and weaving twigs, grass, seaweed and wildflowers into wreaths to capture memory and the simple joy of being on holiday.

10.01.2022 The character of Miss Havisham in the Dickens classic, Great Expectations inspired this work. Miss Havisham exists in a living museum to her thwarted love. Her weapon of choice is her adopted daughter Estella, whom she covers in jewells and trains to inflict pain on the hearts of men in revenge for being stood up at the alter as a young woman. There is much about this character that I love. She is nuts. She wears one shoe and a decaying wedding dress. A decaying beauty he...rself she lives in a crumbling mansion filled with Victorian decay bells jars, old jewells, rotting lace and taxidermy. She is an over the top expression of the thing suffered by every tender heart at some stage - heartbreak and the grief of lost love. What if her groom had turned up? The Great Expectations collection reinvents her story her wedding went ahead, the love she found was true, and the couple went on a tour of the Orient according to the fashion for young couples of society. Created for the Curio Cabinet at Gaffa, this work is glittery and dark in its aims to allure and repel. See more
