22.01.2022 Making preserves! It’s a strange time right now the world over. As a daughter of a refugee all those things I was told growing up are starting to seem a lot more real. When I was a teenager I thought it was strange that my Nana and Pa had a huge preserves pantry and a freezer full of their own food from their little farm. Now I wish I had paid more attention. My family spent a year living in a refugee camp in Trieste, Italy. Our family was divided, some ending up in Canada an...d some here in Australia. I cannot tell you how blessed I feel that they were accepted here. Please be kind to everyone you cross paths with in coming times. Remember that you never know another person’s journey. 12.01.2022 Learning to dehydrate. My new kitchen friend the dehydrator. I saw a lady on Instagram that made the most beautiful looking gin and tonics with dehydrated limes and before you know it...well...here I am! Lovin’ it!! Now I know what to do with my excess citrus! Used one of my favourite books by @meredith.kirton and @mandysinclair.food - two amazing Aussie girls who write the best books. I have a number of their books because they are simple and practical and the recipes always work. 05.01.2022 How good is it when we are inspired by others!!! Totally got inspired by @abundantfoodco making a sourdough starter and then sourdough bread! I have never been successful at growing a starter on my own until I used a recipe from @adam.elabd - his book Fermenting Food step by step is one of my favourite cooking books. He explains things with soooo many photos and simple steps. It is my go to ferment book which I bought from @belgravebookbarn .
