24.01.2022 Globally the average 40,000 liter tank contains just over one-third its capacity in fuel. At the average fill level it tank it takes just 65 liters or 17mm of water to completely phase separate the 13,000 liters of fuel in the tank. Phase separation results in: - Damage to petroleum equipment infrastructure - the mixture of phase-separated fuel is highly corrosive compared to pure water or E10 fuel - Out of specification and unsaleable stock... - Damage to customer vehicles and station brand reputation Our tank cleaning and fuel restoration technology removes free water and remediates the remaining phase separated fuel to a saleable condition without additives. 15.01.2022 What causes a fuel leak? QUALITY OF INSTALLATION Installer quality is a critical factor regarding UST integrity. Our experience in testing thousands of new installations indicates 90% of new or remodeled sites have small leaks from pipes and fittings that need to be fixed before concreting.... CORROSION UST corrosion is a major source of leaks. Old single-wall steel tanks without cathodic protection are particularly susceptible. It also depends on the age of the tank plus the type of fuel and soil, and presence of groundwater. INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS Always beware if materials in USTs are not compatible with the type of product being stored. For example, a fibreglass resin tank is not compatible with ethanol. BACKFILL CONDITION Poor quality backfill can increase the risk of leaks, e.g. it can cause concrete to sink which impacts tank and pipework integrity. EXTERNAL CAUSES Factors outside the immediate fuel system can also cause leaks. The effects can be immediate or over time such as puncture from drilling or ground movement due to drought or groundwater. #USTintegrity #USTriskmanagement #leakdetection

A network of 500 sites typically has around 5,000 alarms per month, with industry data suggesting only 30 per cent of ATG alarms actually require action at site. The other 70 per cent can be resolved remotely. False alarms or alarms for minor issues (e.g. printer error) can create noise that distracts attention from more important and urgent alerts that could threaten sit...e compliance and pose a major environmental risk. 14.01.2022 70% of UTSs globally have a tank chart calibration error of 1% or greater, which creates false loss or gain variances that are often written off in accounting as a cost of business. Tank chart errors hide real operational issues and preventable loss like delivery losses, meter drift, pilferage and leaks. Automated tank gauge calibration tools mitigate variances observed in fuel losses or gains due to poorly calibrated tanks.... For example: A fuel retailer utilizing wetstock software recently detected losses of up to 1,000 liters every time a delivery event occurred, leading them to believe there was a short delivery or temperature changes caused a loss. After recalibrating the ATG the losses were not physical losses on delivery but variances from a tank calibration error, which was measuring the tank fill incorrectly. For exa...mple, a 230 liter fuel theft occurring at midnight following a delivery was detected by a Sudden Loss Alarm triggered in our wetstock software. The store operated 24 hours a day and variances were common at night.
